Top 10+Skills You Need to Survive Chaos

In a pinch, it’s not the things you have as much as the skills you have that will be your most valuable assets. By the way, since it takes years to acquire all the necessary skills for provident, abundant living, I recommend adding COMMUNITY as a pre-requisite to an attempt to become truly self-sufficient.

Having like-minded friends, family and associates is a crucial ingredient for long term survival.  If each of them have one or more of the following skills so much the better (take the time to teach each other).

My wife became a certified EMT and has years of experience working with animals (her reference library is better than most veterinarians).

In no particular order, here the skills I feel will prove most important in a long term survival situation; if the crap really hits the fan.  Feel free to email me to add your ideas.

1.      Gardening, food preservation and raising small livestock

2.      Butchering and meat preservation

3.      Advanced First Aid skills

4.      Welding

5.      Basic carpentry and home repair skills

6.      Small engine repair

Compressors, Saw Mills, Rototillers, and the list goes on… count the number of small engines you use. Chain Saws, 4-Wheeler ATV, Generators, Pumps, etc.

7.       Hunting, trapping, fishing, butchering

8.      Gunsmithing

9.      Making wine and beer

10.  Vet care skills for livestock, pets

Whether you might dream about living in the wide open space of the country or getting away from the throw-away society, for many this dream will be just a dream, but you can still be more self sufficient at home in a busy city.

Self sufficiency is all about ways to develop skills, to save money, to develop more wisdom in how you live and ways to be more effective in your home and work life.  For the past few years, the Poor Man has brought you resources such as those outlined above to help you survive no matter what happens.  Below are a few more resources.

10 Days Of Mason Jar Christmas

Gifts in mason jars are reusable. I can use up whatever came in them (usually a tasty bake mix), and then keep the jars around the house either to hold candles or even to give gifts of my own.

Amy Bayliss presents 10 different ways you can use a mason jar for gifts this holiday season. Navigation is easy, just click the link of the gift you want to learn more about and you’ll be whisked away to the how-to page.

You’ll find how-to’s for making and giving baking mixes, using mason jars for drinks, hosting gifts, meals, storage, and even decorating!

I really loved some of the decorating ideas, because they are simple enough that you could do them as craft projects with your kids. All you need for some of them is white glue and tissue paper.

The link for savory dishes and lunches in mason jars is one you can use year-round.

Whether you’re searching for holiday ideas or simply a unique way to take your lunch to work, be sure to check out these awesome uses for mason jars!

Hundreds of uses for salt

Full-spectrum salt has a multitude of uses, including:

• Adding trace minerals to sprouts and gardens
• Making salted meats and fish for long-term storage
• Day-to-day cooking and meal preparation
• Animal licks for raising
healthy livestock
• Finalizing fermented foods such as sauerkraut
• Making butter and cheese
• Bath salts, for soaking up trace minerals in bath water

Salt is essential for life. That's why every land animal seeks out salt and craves it. It's why ocean creatures live in waters made out of salt. It's why human blood is fundamentally made with salt. Your body cannot retain water without salt, and when a hospital drips an IV solution into your bloodstream to keep you alive, it's a salt (saline) solution!

Your body was engineered to like the taste of salt because your body absolutely needs salt's minerals in order to survive.

How many hours of work a gallon of gas is worth?

If you never heard of David Blume, well he is a legend among the survival and prep crowd as an alcohol distilling expert. Click here to see the video.

Oh, a side note. Before the taped interview with David, I was chatting with him about who was buying alcohol stills these days. He told me years ago, it used to only be African villages and die-hard survivalists in Idaho who wanted to drive their four wheelers after the crash. David told me that today, there is a growing interest in distilling fuel by seasoned business people and entrepreneurs who recognize the niche that is opening up with higher costs of petroleum. Is this something you might want to invest in?

Check out the interview, and join in as the comments are very interesting and I'll be able to respond to your input too. Click

Come the end of this year, we likely won't be seeing a savage “fiscal cliff”. Only a fast downward spiral, that's been in a steep dive for the last 4 years. The decline occurred when Obama first took office. Obama wants tax increases for the rich, including increases coming from tax rates jumping up after 1/1/2013, when the Bush rates expire

As Walter Williams: Future Generations (George Washington University) discusses, a conservative estimate of this administration’s unfunded liabilities (FY 2011) is $87 trillion. That exceeds 500% of our GDP (2011) of $15 trillion.

Very, Very cute Digital Christmas Story…you’ll enjoy and share this.  Peace on Earth to all of my friends!

More ‘Traitors Among Us’

The President and the leadership of both political parties in both houses of Congress have abandoned their oaths to uphold the Constitution.

After President Richard Nixon was forced from office in 1974, congressional investigators discovered what they believed was the full extent of his use of the FBI and the CIA to engage in domestic spying. In that pre-digital era, the spying consisted of listening to telephone calls, opening mail, and using undercover agents to infiltrate political organizations and, as we know, break into their offices. Nixon claimed he did this for the protection of national security. He also claimed he was entitled to break the law and violate the Constitution. "If the President does it, that means that it's not illegal," he once famously said.

Sensationalist media breeds deadly shooting sprees and encourages copycat murders - Here's how to end the madness
(NaturalNews) In the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy, mainstream media has guaranteed more mass shootings will transpire in the future. By showcasing murderers as cult-like antiheroes, extreme acts of violence are glorified -- prompting...

Today’s retirees are the first to pay more into Social Security than they will receive and it will get worse for future retirees.

The Parting Thought- Congress has ruined our nation, time for change!

Congressional Reform Act of 2012
This has gone around the internet a few times…perhaps it’s time to rethink it for 2013!

1. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no
pay when they're out of office.

2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social
Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the
Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into
the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the
American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all
Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. (Or, use the same COLA they give to Social Security recipients).

5. Congress loses their current health care system and
participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the
American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void
effective 12/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women.
Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in
Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers
envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their
term(s), then go home and back to work.

Most Americans are too dumb to pay attention to what's going on; they follow Washington DC's BS propaganda 'hook, line and sinker.' Glad to see you tell it how it is!
