Andy Stanley’s ‘Balanced’ 6-part financial series

Having been in this whole  Personal Finance thing for a long time, I have read, seen, and heard a lot of teaching about how the Bible pertains to our finances. And I am not exaggerating when I say that this 6-part series is some of the best teaching (and most helpful) that I have come across.

I strongly encourage you to spend the next week and go through this series. No matter whether you are a beginner or well-versed in managing your money God’s way, I am very confident you will find it to be of value --  even if you are an agnostic.

Each lesson is 30 minutes long, so if you really get inspired you can knock of the whole thing out in 3 hours.

Listen to it Now!

For the sake of convenience I am including the links to each part here, but you are also welcome to watch the videos on his site here as well.

“Are you financially balanced? Do you know where your money goes each month? Do you and your spouse argue about money? Does your month last longer than your money? If your answer to any of these questions is yes, you may be financially unbalanced. In this series, Andy reveals the steps you need to take to achieve the freedom and contentment that comes with being financially balanced.”

“What is your primary objective when it comes to your personal finances? For some it’s supporting a family; others strive to save as much as possible. For many, financial freedom is the finish line. What should your objective be when it comes to your money? What will bring you the most peace? Join Andy Stanley as he explores the Bible to find the answer. It just might surprise you.”

“Auto leases, credit cards, student loans, and second mortgages take our money, our attention, and our freedom. In this message, Andy shares how to handle personal debt and takes a hard look at making the necessary corrections to get to where we need to be.”

“Do you want less anxiety in the arena of your finances? Of course you do. But our culture teaches that your value is based on the accumulation of stuff. The more you amass before you die, the more successful it appears your life has been. Andy presents a different perspective – one that will keep you from buying into our culture’s lies.”

“Do you struggle with discontentment? If you do, there’s a reason. In this message, Andy Stanley explains why your appetite for more never gets satisfied. Once you understand that, and apply the principles Andy presents, you’ll be able to find the contentment you desire.”

“When it comes to personal finances, we often put ourselves first, and God usually gets our leftovers. But then to whom do we turn when we are having financial trouble? Yep! The person we’ve put last. Doesn’t make sense, does it? In the last of this 6-part series, Andy Stanley explains why it is in your best interest to re-prioritize your money. Using passages from the Old and New Testaments, he outlines a simple plan that will throw open the door to God’s involvement in your finances – a plan that will bring you the freedom and peace you desire.”

Use Technology to Reduce Your Home Energy Use
Yes, Earth Day is over, but that doesn't mean you should stop caring about the environment or your electrical footprint. Gadgets and tech toys are typically power guzzlers, but with the right apps and tools you can start reducing your impact--and power bill.

We’ve had a lot of midnight visits from Rocky Raccoon who has ravished our trash (he’s a cutie) but he needs to find another home…some recipes to use!

Raccoon Repellent Recipe #1

·         This raccoon repellent recipe is recommended by the Larimer Humane Society in northern Colorado to protect your plants from being eaten by raccoons. Mix the ingredients together and spray it on your shrubs, plants, trees, around and on garbage cans or anywhere you want the raccoon to stay away from.

Mix one small bottle of hot sauce (like Tabasco) or one can of cayenne pepper with one gallon of water that has had one teaspoon of mild dishwashing detergent added to it. The soap will help the pepper water adhere to the plants and other places you spray. The pepper spray will need to be reapplied after a rain or watering. Make sure you thoroughly wash any fruit or vegetable you harvest that has been sprayed before you eat it.

Raccoon Repellent Recipe #2

·         From the City of Lakewood, Colorado, this wildlife repellent recipe is called Hot Pepper Repellent. It is different from Recipe #1, but just as effective.

One tablespoon of Cayenne pepper

One chopped Jalapeno pepper

One chopped yellow onion

In two quarts water, boil the ingredients for 20 minutes. After the mixture has cools, strain it through cheesecloth. Spray the strained liquid anywhere you want to repellent raccoons or any other wildlife. It is very effective, but must be reapplied every three to five days.

From Battlefield to Farmland

Called a ‘Harvest of Hope’ meaningful work and learning opportunities for wounded warriors are springing up around the nation.  Several projects in the fields of homesteading, agritourism, eco-tourism, horticulture and agriculture are coming to life, giving veterans an opportunity to start life changing careers as farmers and sustainable people.

The movement is catching on through programs such as the Fellowship Fund, which offers post 9/11 disabled vets to begin a food and farm career.

Fueling the search for the Boston Marathon killers has been a number of technological shifts which are likely to accelerate in the years ahead as police, corporations, and even private citizens gain access to unprecedented troves of video imagery and the tools to analyze them. The Parting Thought:

Americans believe that moving the economy forward means cutting spending and reducing taxes. Two-thirds of Americans (66 percent) believe the federal government should cut spending, and 62 percent believe taxes should also be lowered to create jobs and grow the economy. A significant majority (70 percent) also believes that a balanced budget would help the nation’s economy.

Educating ourselves on the principles of individual liberty and personal responsibility is absolutely essential if we are to restore the principles upon which our nation was founded. I have created a website where you can learn about: The Philosophy of Liberty, the Principles of Liberty and the Foundations of Liberty. You will be able to learn about the Constitution and intent of the founding fathers. Please visit this new website and invite all of your friends and neighbors that love liberty and are willing to educate themselves to fight tyranny.
