Getting a Community Fix-It Group Started in Your Neighborhood

 First get the word out…

Let your neighbors know you are interested in started a fix-it group. You might be tempted to make everyone feel welcome, but you may be better off focusing on those individuals who the skills you’d like to see in the group: electricians, people who know how to work on small engines, people who know woodworking, and people who know sewing might make a good start.

Then, build a roster.
Put together a list of people who are interested in participating and note what skills they bring to the group. Some might be interested in joining simply to learn, and that’s okay. That means they’ll be developing skills and greater self-reliance — always good traits to have in your neighbors.

Next, look for a home.
To fix things, you’ll need to have access to tools and supplies. You may have a neighbor with a well-stocked workshop who is willing to host your fix-it group in his garage. If not, the local religious or civic organization might be able to give you access to its shop. Or you may be able to find a third-party shop to rent for cheap.

Set up a meeting time.
Maybe once a week or once a month, get together with your fix-it group. Ask everyone to bring items that they’d like to fix. You work on them together, teaching each other and assisting each other, sometimes learning as you go if a project requires skills the group doesn’t have.

Did you know that politicians in the EU recently tried to outlaw the
seeds that nearly all gardeners use?
I'm talking about tomato seeds,
broccoli, and squash...

If European lawmakers have their way, all seeds in the future will
have to be purchased from greedy companies like Monsanto, Dow
Chemical, and DuPont. All in the name of... FOOD SAFETY?

If lawmakers are trying to ban all unregistered seeds in the EU, it's
only a matter of time before lawmakers in the US try the same
thing.

Growing your own food is the only way to ensure that what you put
on your family's table is safe... and free from the potentially
hazardous GMOs.

As genetically modified crops continue to take over the world’s food
supply, politicians are looking into ways to give companies like
Monsanto and Dow AgroSciences every advantage (that’s what those
lobbyists get paid for).

The state of European agriculture has got so Orwellian that some
politicians in the EU now consider non-GMO seeds a threat to
stability. In fact, they’ve adopted measures to ban all seeds that
haven’t been “tested, approved and accepted.”

Well, who has the incentive to undergo a rigorous testing and
regulatory process? Mother Nature? I don’t think she has the financing
or the legal team…

But you know who does? Monsanto, DuPont, Dow AgroSciences,
and Syngenta, that’s who. Because they stand to profit through their
patents.

Unapproved seeds (also known as “regular” or “heirloom” seeds), don’t
have a profit motive attached. These are simply the seeds that farmers
have been using for millennia… and the seeds that almost all
gardeners use today.

The Nanny State-We love our government

The Dangerous & Expensive Rise of the 4th Branch of Government

The Washington Post's Outlook Section on the dangers of America's growing administrative state. Ask any elementary student and you will hear how the Framers carefully designed a tripartite, or three-branch, system to govern the United States. This separation of powers was meant to protect citizens from tyranny by making every branch dependent on each other to carry out the functions of government. These three branches held together through a type of outward pressure – each holding the other in place through their countervailing forces. Add a fourth branch and the structure begins to collapse. That is precisely what is happening as federal agencies grow beyond the traditional controls and oversight of the legislative and executive branches…

“The growing dominance of the federal government over the states has obscured more fundamental changes within the federal government itself: It is not just bigger, it is dangerously off kilter. Our carefully constructed system of checks and balances is being negated by the rise of a fourth branch, an administrative state of sprawling departments and agencies that govern with increasing autonomy and decreasing transparency. … The fourth branch now has a larger practical impact on the lives of citizens than all other branches combined.”

The short of it is We have too many unelected bozos mucking up the stew with useless and expensive regulation – ALL of which hamper our free enterprise system and ultimately, jobs and even our national security.

Minority Report becomes reality in Seattle with Predictive Crime Software use…

After initial testing in two precincts, The Seattle Police Department and Mayor Mike McGinn announced last week that they will now deploy their “Predictive Policing” software to all five precincts.

The federally-funded cloud-based crime prediction software known as PREDPOL, uses mathematical algorithms similar to ones used in earthquake prediction to predict when and where a future crime is most likely to take place down to a 500-square foot area. The program combines five years’ worth of past crime data with sociological information about criminal behavior…

Across Western Europe and the USA, surveillance of civilians has become a major business. With one camera for every 14 people in London and drones being used by police to track individuals, the threat of living in a Big Brother state is becoming a reality. To be

“If banks worked like U.S. healthcare, ATM transactions would take days… If homebuilding was like healthcare, carpenters, electricians and plumbers would work from different blueprints and rarely talk to one another… If shopping were like healthcare, prices would not be posted and could vary widely within the same store, depending on who is paying.”

The Parting Thought:  Real letter to our stupid government…

“I’ve Had Enough Of This Bureaucratic Bulls%#t!”

DEAR MRS. MS. OR SIR: I’M IN THE PROCESS OF RENEWING MY PASSPORT AND STILL CANNOT BELIEVE THIS. HOW IS IT THAT RADIO SHACK HAS MY ADDRESS AND TELEPHONE NUMBER AND KNOWS THAT I BOUGHT A CABLE TV FROM THEM IN 1987 (23 YEARS AGO), AND YET, THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS STILL ASKING ME WHERE I WAS BORN AND ON WHAT DATE. FOR CHRIST’S SAKE, DO YOU GUYS DO THIS BY HAND? EVER HEARD OF COMPUTERS?

MY BIRTH DATE YOU HAVE IN MY SOCIAL SECURITY FILE. IT’S ON EVERY INCOME TAX FORM I’VE FILED FOR THE PAST 35+ YEARS. IT’S ON MY MEDICARE HEALTH INSURANCE CARD AND MY DRIVER’S LICENSE, IT’S ON THE LAST EIGHT DAMNED PASSPORTS I’VE HAD, IT’S ON EVERY STUPID CUSTOMS DECLARATION FORM I’VE HAD TO FILL OUT BEFORE BEING ALLOWED OFF THE PLANE FOR THE LAST 30+ YEARS. AND IT’S ON ALL THOSE CENSUS FORMS THAT WE HAVE TO DO AT ELECTION TIMES. WOULD SOMEBODY PLEASE TAKE NOTE, ONCE AND FOR ALL, THAT MY MOTHER’S NAME IS MARYANNE, MY FATHER’S NAME IS ROBERT AND I’M REASONABLY CONFIDENT THAT NEITHER NAME IS LIKELY TO CHANGE BETWEEN NOW AND WHEN I DIE.

BETWEEN YOU AND ME, I’VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS BUREAUCRATIC BULLSHIT! YOU SEND THE APPLICATION TO MY HOUSE, THEN YOU ASK ME FOR MY #*&#%*& ADDRESS. WHAT IS GOING ON? YOU MUST HAVE A GANG OF BUREAUCRATIC NEANDERTHAL MORONS WORKING THERE! LOOK AT MY DAMN PICTURE. DO I LOOK LIKE BIN LADEN?
