The key to spending less than we earn is simple - it is called discipline. Whether early in life or late, we must all eventually learn to discipline ourselves, our appetites, and our economic desires.

CSPI: What Your Supermarket Stocks and Where Products are Placed is Rigged

As so often is the case we find it is not just our political system that is rigged…

The Center for Science in the Public Interest just issued a major investigative report alleging that large grocery manufacturers pay huge sums to supermarkets ("slotting fees") to get their products on the shelves and in specific spots. Really large brands can also dictate where competitors' products are placed, and that could be a violation of antitrust laws. Here is a summary of the report and here is the full report.

AAA Says Not All Gasoline the Same

Most people buy the cheapest gas or the most convenient. Now according to tests by AAA, brands that don't meet "Top Tier" standards with more detergent additives leave 19 times more carbon deposits in engines, reducing fuel economy and increasing emissions. Here are brands that meet "Top Tier" standards. Note: It is possible that this is a bit of a marketing gimmick and that brands that don't pay the "Top Tier" annual licensing fee may have detergents and additives equivalent to the Top Tier requirements.

The Single Most Important Factor for Surviving Collapse

Do you know the single most important factor for surviving a major disaster?  Surprise... it's not food.  It's not water.  And it's not ammunition.  While those things may be important in the long run, there is one key factor that outweighs them all during the initial fallout of a major collapse.  Are you ready for it?

It's location.  Just like in real estate - the 3 most important parts of surviving a collapse scenario are location ... location ... location.

No matter how much food you have stockpiled, no matter how good your water filter is, no matter how much you have prepared and planned; if you're in the wrong location when collapse occurs, your chances of survival are drastically reduced.  It's an unfortunate reality.  But, if you're serious about surviving, then you cannot afford to overlook this one critical factor.

The Reasons Why Location is the Key to Survival

1.       The first reason is the most obvious.  America's major cities will quickly descend into chaos if the grid goes down.  There are millions of people who have depended on a complex network of manufacturing and distribution to supply them with food, water, and medicine.  If the grid goes down, that supply will suddenly disappear.  And the people who relied on that network will be hungry.  They will be thirsty.  They will stop at nothing to secure the necessities for themselves and their families.  You should avoid that chaos if you can.

2.       The second reason is less obvious, and many people overlook this one.  Most locations in the eastern and central United States are surprisingly close to a nuclear reactor.  In fact, on the East Coast, it's hard to find a place where you are not close to a reactor.  The thing is, nuclear reactors require a physical process to keep them cool.  That cooling process relies on energy from the grid.  And when these reactors are not cooling... well, they're heating up.  If the grid goes down, nuclear reactors will become a serious threat.  I can show you how to manage this risk when you choose your ideal retreat location.

3.       The third reason is commonly misunderstood.  If you ask most preppers how far away you should be from the nearest city or town, they'll tell you, "as far away as possible."  It's easy to see why so many people share this belief, but it turns out that it's actually wrong.  There are many reasons why you would want to have people nearby in a collapse scenario.  Think about emergency care for illness and injury, defensive assistance, replacement parts, and the ability to barter for food, supplies, and services.  How far away should you be from the nearest town?  History holds the answer, and I will share it with you.

Survival Secrets to Surviving A Famine.

Economic collapse can lead to a breakdown of society and mass food shortages. Severe drought or weather, natural disaster, or a man-made catastrophe like an EMP can also bring on food shortages, followed by famine, followed by STARVATION. Millions go hungry. Countless people die.  Imagine watching yourself and your family starve to death...
