Howard Beale, the last sane man on television”

The perfect slaves are those who can be persuaded to serve the state against their own best interest and without question.

Long ago the social alchemists developed the art of propaganda. They discovered that persuasion as a system of enslavement is far superior to the rack and the thumbscrew. Persuasion is far superior at creating obedience, docility and an altered state of consciousness with no risk to the state. Furthermore, this mind-altering process is automatically passed from one generation to the other without cost to the state.

Given that, I thought the following excerpt from Jon Rappoport from the Matrix series worth sharing…

The best film ever made about television’s war on the population is Paddy Chayefsky’s scorching masterpiece, Network (1976). Yet it stages only a few minutes of on-air television.

The rest of the film is dialogue and monologue about television. Thus you could say that, in this case, word defeats image.

Even when showing what happens on the TV screen, Network bursts forth with lines like these, from newsman Howard Beale, at the end of his rope, on-camera, speaking to his in-studio audience and millions of people in their homes:

“So, you listen to me. Listen to me! Television is not the truth. Television’s a god-damned amusement park. Television is a circus, a carnival, a traveling troupe of acrobats, storytellers, dancers, singers, jugglers, sideshow freaks, lion tamers, and football players. We’re in the boredom-killing business… We deal in illusions, man. None of it is true! But you people sit there day after day, night after night, all ages, colors, creeds. We’re all you know. You’re beginning to believe the illusions we’re spinning here. You’re beginning to think that the tube is reality and that your own lives are unreal. You do whatever the tube tells you. You dress like the tube, you eat like the tube, you raise your children like the tube. You even think like the tube. This is mass madness. You maniacs. In God’s name, you people are the real thing. We are the illusion.”

Beale, coming apart at the seams, is a mad prophet. And because he shines with brilliance and poetry, he can affect minds. Therefore, the television network can make use of him. It can turn him into a cartoon for the masses.

It is Beale’s language and the passion with which he delivers it that constitutes his dangerous weapon. Therefore, the Network transforms him into a cheap religious figure, whose audience slathers him with absurd adoration.

Television’s enemy is the word. Its currency is image.

Beale breaks through the image and defiles it. He cracks the egg. He stops the picture-flow. He brings back the sound and rhythm of spoken poetry. That is his true transgression against the medium that employs him.

The modern matrix has everything to do with how knowledge is acquired.

Television, in the main, does not attempt to impart knowledge. It strives to give the viewer the impression that he knows something. There is a difference.

Knowledge, once established, is external to, and independent of, the viewer. Whereas the impression of knowing is a feeling, a conviction, a belief the viewer holds, after he has watched moving images on a screen.

Images… plus, of course, in the case of the news, the narrative voice.

A basic premise of New Age thinking is: “everything is (connected to) everything.” This fits quite well with the experience of watching film or video flow.

Example: we see angry crowds on the street of a foreign city. Then young people on their cell phones sitting in an outdoor café. Then the marble lobby of a government building where men in suits are walking, standing in groups talking to each other. Then at night, rockets exploding in the sky. Then armored vehicles moving through a gate into the city. Then clouds of smoke on another street and people running, chased by police.

A flow of consecutive images. The sequence, obviously, has been assembled by a news editor, but most of the viewing audience isn’t aware of that. They’re watching the “interconnected” images and listening to a news anchor tell a story that colors (infects) every image.

Viewers thus believe they know something. Television has imparted that sensation to them. That’s what news is all about: delivering a sensation of knowing to the audience.

There is no convenient place where the ordinary viewing audience can stop the flow of images or the story being told. They are inside it. They don’t have the leverage of a crystalized idea or the power of reasoning to get out.

They are inside the story. Knowledge thus becomes story.

The viewer is transfixed by the sensation that he is “inside” watching/experiencing story.

This fixation produces a short circuit in his reasoning mind (if he has one). No time to stop, no time to think; just watch the flow.

When you take this pattern out to a whole society, you are talking about a dominant method through which “knowledge” is gained.

“Did you see that fantastic video about the Iraq War? It showed that Saddam actually had bioweapons.”

“Really? How did they show that?”

“Well, I don’t exactly remember. But watch it. You’ll see.”

And that’s another feature of the modern acquisition of knowledge: amnesia about details.

The viewer can’t recall key features of what he saw. Or if he can, he can’t describe them, because he was in the flow. He was inside, busy building up his impression of knowing something.

Narrative-visual-television story strips out and discards conceptual references. And lines of reasoning? To the extent they exist, they’re wrapped around and inside the image-flow and the narration.

Ideas aren’t as interesting as images. That’s the premise.

To grasp the diminishment of language, consider the current use of the word “text.” Suddenly it’s become a verb; it means a process of sending words. It also refers to paragraphs or pages of writing, as opposed to pictures. “Text” makes “writing” seem like nothing more than one functional (and machine-like) method of delivering information.

And since bone-dry information (e.g., “genetic sequences”) these days is practically considered a synonym for life, when a writer infuses his words with passion, they automatically become a “rant.” “Rant” was formerly applied to describe what a person did when he was totally unhinged to the point of making no coherent sense.

Image, not the word, is the now preferred means of acquiring what passes for knowledge.

Retired propaganda master, Ellis Medavoy (pseudonym), once told me in an interview: “If you wanted to try a real revolution, you would produce thousands of videos consisting of written words on screens, with someone speaking those words. You would try to reinstate language as a medium. Poetry, formal arguments and debates, great speeches, dramatic readings. You would go up against image and try to relegate it to its proper place…”

In the American colonies of the 18th century, several hundred thousand copies of Tom Paine’s pamphlet, Common Sense, were distributed among a total population of only 2.5 million people, and the earth shook.

When a technology (television) turns into a method of perception, reality is turned inside out. People watch TV through TV eyes.

Mind control is no longer something merely imposed from the outside. It is a matrix of a self-feeding, self-demanding loop. Willing devotees of the image want images, food stamps of the programmed society.

—But now, something is happening. Something different.

It is to be fervently wished that the revolution against major media will also result in a revolution against knowledge as nothing more than image.

Defending Yourself with Make Shift Weapons

The difference between walking away and becoming tomorrow's newspaper headline is how well you are prepared to protect yourself in a bad situation…

While rare, violence often strikes when you least expect it. To counter violent attacks, you need to be fast and furious. Hand-to-hand combatives are a great tool to have up your sleeve to quickly dispatch an attacker, but you should always be looking for force multipliers—tools that make your counterattacks even more painful, damaging, and effective.

Having some sort of defensive weapon—be it a firearm, knife, or spray—as part of your EDC is never a bad idea, but sometimes you don’t have one on you (like when you’re in an area that prohibits weapons), your attacker has taken or knocked your weapon away, or you’re in a position that makes drawing your weapon hard to do.

Thankfully, you’re constantly surrounded by potential weapons that can be quickly accessed to counter violent attacks. To find and employ them, you just need to hone the most important weapon in your arsenal—your mind.

In the right hands, seemingly innocuous, everyday items can be turned into lethal weapons. Such a transformation just requires violating those objects’ Aristotelian telos—the end for which they were made. If your life is on the line, I don’t think old Aristotle would mind.

Below we offer 12 suggestions of everyday objects that can be turned into improvised weapons. Use this as a jumping off point to think of how other objects could save your life in a pinch. When you’re out and about in public, practice scanning your environment and considering what might be used as a weapon if needed. Think of it as creating mental models for your OODA Loop so you can win the fight if/when it comes your way.

Pot of Coffee

There’s nothing like the smell of coffee brewing when you first wake up in the morning. And if you’re ever attacked while pouring your cup of joe, you can take comfort in the fact that you’re not just holding something wonderfully fragrant, but a great weapon as well.

Smash the pot into your attacker’s face. The blunt force will stun him, the shards of glass will embed in his kisser, and the scalding hot coffee will make him wish he stayed home that morning.

Coffee Mug

Fire Extinguisher

Fire extinguishers cannot only save your life in a fire, but in a violent attack as well. Spray the assailant in the face to temporarily distract him and disrupt his OODA Loop. While he’s figuring out what’s going on, forcefully bludgeon him in the head with the extinguisher’s canister.

A Pen

In the right hands, the pen can indeed be mightier than the sword. A stainless steel pen like this Zebra number can be used to stab an assailant. Hold it with an overhand grip and aim for vulnerable parts of the body like the face and throat. If you really want to up your writing-implement-as-weapon game, get a true tactical pen like this Smith & Wesson.

Keys

Your keys can start your car or let you into your house. They can also savagely maim a violent attacker. Hold the keys in your hand so their points are coming out between the fingers of your fist. Proceed to punch your attacker in vulnerable parts of the body like the face and throat.

Locking Carabiner

Carabineers are an important tool for mountain climbers and have become a go-to key holder for action-oriented gents. They can also serve as field-expedient knuckledusters in a pinch. If you want to use a carabiner as an improvised weapon, make sure it’s big enough to fit around your fist and has a locking collar (to prevent it from snapping open while you punch a mo’ fo’). While aluminum carabineers should be able to withstand the impact, for added strength, use a steel one.

Wristwatch

For a variation on the above, turn your metal wristwatch into a quick-n-dirty knucklebuster by holding the bracelet inside your fist, and positioning its face across your middle knuckles. James Bond uses his Rolex Oyster Perpetual in this way to knock out a bad guy in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Keep in mind that the impact of this move will likely break your timepiece. Bond was able to write off the destruction of his watch to his expense account. You won’t. Of course, losing your wristwatch will be a small price to pay if it saves your life.

Aluminum Water Bottle

An aluminum water bottle helps you stay hydrated while avoiding all those testosterone-lowering xenoestrogens found in plastic bottles. It can also be used to inflict blunt force trauma on a violent attacker. Ideally, you want the bottle to have some liquid in it in order to give your makeshift club more heft and weight. Bash your assailant’s head and face with it.

If you’ve got some time and if your bottle has a key ring, put your belt through the ring and tie it off. You’ve got yourself a medieval flail.

Belt

Just as you should remember that your belt should match the color of your shoes, you should also remember that it can be used as a weapon in a pinch.

First, you can use a belt the same way parents used to employ it on their kids back in the day—for whoopins. But unlike its use in dishing out old fashioned corporal punishment, you’re not going to hold back on your attacker. Give him the ass whoopin’ of a lifetime. Make sure he gets the buckle end of the belt. Aim for the face. The advantage of using a belt as an improvised bludgeon is not only the significant damage it can inflict, but the distance it allows you to put between you and your attacker.

The second way you can use a belt as a weapon is as a force multiplier when strangling an assailant.

Hornet Spray

We got this improvised weapon idea while interviewing Navy SEAL Clint Emerson. Hornet spray is pepper spray on steroids. The former can usually shoot up to 20 feet and provides a much more directed stream than you find with the latter. What’s more, the chemical used in hornet spray is much more potent than pepper spray and can potentially permanently blind an attacker.

Keep in mind, that due to the possible maiming effects of hornet spray, one should only use it in life-threatening situations (like during a home invasion). Using hornet spray as an everyday self-defense tool is illegal in most jurisdictions.  [We keep a can by every door in our house].

Flashlight

Every man should not only carry a flashlight, but know how to use it in a tactical scenario. Not only can it help you find stuff in the dark and act as a deterrent to would-be attackers, it can also be used as a weapon. Maglite Heavy Duty D Cell flashlights make for a great makeshift billy club, and many specialized tactical flashlights end with a serrated or toothed bezel that can be used as an improvised striking device during an attack. After you’ve shined the bright light of a high-powered flashlight in your attacker’s eyes and disoriented him, strike his face with the toothed bezel as hard as you can. The motion should be like forcefully stamping him with a giant rubber stamp.

Smartphone

Today’s smartphones have been designed to take a beating; consequently, they can used to give a beating.

Tightly grasp your smartphone in your hand and slam the edge and corners of it into vulnerable parts of the body like the eyes, nose, and neck.

You could also put your phone in a sock or other piece of clothing to make an improvised sap—a weighted impact weapon.

Whether you’re at home, the office, or out on the town, everyday objects that could be turned into weapons are all around you. Should you find yourself facing a violent threat, be ready to grab something and win the fight.

The Explosion of False News & Spy Sites Are a Warning to Each of Us!

The Explosion of False News & Spy Sites Are a Warning to Each of Us!

Make Note:  Warnings of new attacks on your privacy everyone should read at the bottom of this post.

The online world, and social networking sites in particular has the potential to invade your privacy. Couple that with an overbearing, overreaching out-of-control government which has no respect for your rights or privacy and Americans have all been put on a virtual leash.

Consider the fact that Facebook has amassed what may be the world’s largest photo database, consisting of more than 500 billion pictures. Then combine that figure with mobile technology like MORIS, the “Mobile Offender Recognition and Information System.” MORIS is a facial recognition program used by police. An officer simply snaps a photo of your face and runs the image through software that hunts for a match in a criminal records database.

MORIS can scan your face from up to five feet away, potentially without you being aware of it. Since you have no “expectation of privacy” in a public location, the law doesn’t consider this a “search,” and you need not consent to this intrusion.

It’s easy to see how this technology could be abused. Let’s say you’re walking down the street one day while an anti-government protest takes place. A cop armed with MORIS or a similar program matches your image to your Facebook profile. Even if you’re not arrested right away, the fact that you appeared near a public demonstration against the government is filed away for future use.

Big Brother is watching indeed!

It’s even possible that software like MORIS can secretly search Facebook’s photo archives. Facebook might not even know about it, given the “back doors” intelligence agencies like the NSA have built into it, as documented by whistleblower Edward Snowden.

Yet, even if no back doors exist – or have been closed off – the government has its ways of getting the information it’s looking for. The proof is in a helpful document Facebook itself publishes, the Global Government Requests Report. During the first six months of 2016, for instance, US law enforcement agencies made 59,229 data requests covering 86,735 accounts. More than 80% of the time, Facebook released at least some information. Nearly 60% of these requests prohibited Facebook from notifying the account holder of the investigation.

Your photos are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the privacy invasion that Facebook and other social networks facilitate.

  • Facebook tracks and archives every post and private message on its network. The potential for this information to come back to haunt you is almost unlimited. There are numerous examples of individuals turned down for employment due to sexually suggestive, politically controversial, or simply “inappropriate” posts. Some employers even demand access to social networking accounts as a prerequisite to employment.

  • Facebook also knows a great deal about you based on your “Likes,” the links you click, and the websites you visit that send information back to it. All this information is archived and available for marketing purposes – or for investigation.

  • While you can delete information on Facebook or even remove your account entirely, it’s not clear if the data is really gone. Some messages and photos may remain on its servers for “technical reasons.” As well, keep in mind that the government may apply for a “data retention” order to force Facebook and similar companies to preserve data that you might have thought you deleted.

  • Facebook’s computers continuously analyze the network of friends you create, along with the messages you send them. This analysis is designed to suggest content you might like, people you might know, or stuff you might buy. We know that the NSA closely monitors the network of friends of suspected terrorists on social media. And not just friends, but friends of those friends, etc. The more friends you have, the more likely that something you post, or someone connected to one of your friends, or a friend of one of your friends, might be deemed suspicious, triggering an investigation.

  • Attacks and malware aimed at social networks occur almost daily. Remember, the more information you post about yourself, the easier it is for an attacker to impersonate you and steal your identity – or pretend to be a “friend” and try to convince you to reveal information you’d prefer to keep confidential. If investigators don’t want to go through the process of asking Facebook for information about you, they can simply create a false profile and then invite you to become a friend. A prospective employer or private investigator can do the same thing to learn more about you.

It’s no wonder that when the satirical website The Onion published a spoof purporting to come from the CIA, praising Facebook, it rang true:

After years of secretly monitoring the public, we were astounded so many people would willingly publicize where they lived, their religious and political views, an alphabetized list of all their friends, personal email addresses, phone numbers, hundreds of photos of themselves, and even status updates about what they were doing moment to moment. It is truly a dream come true for the CIA.

The bottom line is that if you can live without Facebook or other social media networking sites, by all means don’t use them. If you do decide to use them, keep the information you post to a minimum. For instance, the only photo I have posted on Facebook is more than a decade old. I log on once weekly to answer messages from my family. I don’t accept “friends” whom I don’t already know personally. If you use Facebook or other social media sites, I suggest you take similar precautions.

The Surveillance State Seen through a 'Black Mirror'

If this sounds strangely familiar it is because it is exactly what our own government has been doing over the last several years.

WARNING NOTES:  After this year’s election, Rep. Chris Smith [R-NJ] tried to sneak in a bill that would fund & expand tracking devices, including chip implants for school children and the elderly.  The bill, called Kevin & Avonte’s Law, awards grants to law enforcement and non-profit groups for the purpose of placing tracking devices on children with autism or seniors with Alzheimer’s – for their own protection and the original bill would have authorized this to be done WITHOUT their consent!  Privacy advocates successfully demanded its removal for now.  [There is a firm called Revolutionary Tracker -212/249-7807 or Revolutionarytracker.com- which offers this service via a simply communication device based on a GPS personal locator and an SOS button that can be connected with family members or caregivers which may bring peace of mind to many families without the Orwellian touch of government.

Big Brother is growing-thank you Obama

FamilyTreeNow.Com says it is a family ancestry site and apparently it is more than that.  If you are a member of law enforcement, for example, I would advise going there immediately and using their OPT OUT provision at the bottom of the page to delete information about yourself as the information it provides is too comprehensive-I strongly advise all those who are concerned with privacy to do the same.

The Surveillance State Seen through a 'Black Mirror'

If this sounds strangely familiar it is because it is exactly what our own government has been doing over the last several years.
