The threat of people acting in their own enlightened

Viral Spiral - Don’t get caught up in those misleading political ads…

It’s all misleading propaganda anyhow.  Both parties are guilty of twisting the facts to help whichever politician they are buying for an election.  Spinmeisters (hired guns) are paid big bucks to take comments out of context and re-spin them into BS much of the public swallows like a bird with a worm.

There’s little question in my mind the average American is a gullible lot…hell, 47% of Americans  don’t know how long it takes the earth to revolve around the sun.  (We’ll give you 365 guesses).  Sounds like they need a ‘Smart Phone!’

Campaign managers know this and work it to the advantage of their candidate.  There are a few organizations that do know the facts and they will share the truth with you.  My favorite is FactCheck.org

A nonpartisan, nonprofit “consumer advocate” for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics. We monitor the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S. political players in the form of TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews and news releases. Our goal is to apply the best practices of both journalism and scholarship, and to increase public knowledge and understanding.

Here are two examples of the FACTS:

Is “Obama’s finance team” recommending a 1 percent tax on all bank transactions, as a chain e-mail claims?
No. This idea was first floated in 2004 by one House member, who says it would replace the federal income tax and eliminate the national debt. So far it has gone nowhere.

Is President Obama using tax dollars to rebuild mosques around the world?
Yes — and to rebuild historic churches and temples as well. The State Department’s program to preserve overseas cultural landmarks started under President Bush in 2001. (Not to say we should be spending tax dollars on such projects).

FactCheck.org is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania. The APPC was established by publisher and philanthropist Walter Annenberg to create a community of scholars within the University of Pennsylvania that would address public policy issues at the local, state and federal levels

NOTE:  The Nazis were masters of political propaganda and they learned it all from an American, Edward Bernays, considered the Father of Spin!

Here's a very inexpensive way to capture free solar energy and save on your electric bills.
The least expensive and most effective way of getting free solar energy is with a solar hot water heater. You can use them for your domestic hot water, to heat a swimming pool or hot tub, or even as the heating system for a small home or cabin.

SimpleHeaters.com claims that you can build your own solar hot water system for as little as $70. That's for what they call a "batch heater" built with an old oil drum. ( There's some poetic irony there ). I took a look at their building guide and agree that you can probably keep within that cost if you have some plumbing skills. But, even if you went with some store-bought components, and spent a couple of hundred dollars, your pay back time from reduced electrical bills should be just a few months. After that, any hot water you generate is free.

FOR COWORKING NEWS, CHECK OUT DESKMAG

Coworking centers - where work-at-homers and road warriors can mingle, work, and relax - continue to spread. As they do, and coworker numbers grow, we can expect the centers' prices to gradually fall and coworking centers themselves offer more and more amenities.

(If municipalities were smart, they would also subsidize coworking centers. A busy center can anchor a community, reduce transportation burdens, and support local businesses, too.)

To keep track of all this, check out Deskmag, an online magazine that covers the coworker movement. There's also a helpful co-working wiki here.

Eight Privacy Tips To Prevent Identity Theft

With the alarming rise of the crime rate it is no surprise that over 30,000 identities are being stolen every day. These days identity theft is one of the most popular means of making quick money for sneaky crooks. Therefore, it is is essential that you protect your identity. Here are eight very simple privacy tips that will help you protect your identity and hard earned money.

1. The most basic step to prevent identity theft is to regularly monitor your credit card and bank statements. Many thieves begin by making small purchases so it advisable to always keep receipts from your purchases and review the expenses with your statements. Additionally, Credit Karma provides free credit scores and reports…Read more at:

The Nanny State Updates…

Government Stupidity - NYC police spent nearly one million dollars on typewriters.

Q: Does the IRS pay billions in tax refunds to workers who are in the U.S. illegally?

A: Yes. The Treasury Department’s Inspector General determined that $4.2 billion was paid in 2010, up from less than $1 billion in 2005. Leading Democrats are resisting a bill that would stop future payments.

We don't all all agree on whether the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has any business groping toddlers or destroying expensive medical equipment in the pursuit of its appointed mission of keeping travelers safe from scary terrorists. Security expert Bruce Schneier calls it all pointless and oppressive "security theater" intended to make the government look responsive, while Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) describes intrusive measures as "very important" and pushes for even stronger stuff. But necessary evil or not, writes J.D. Tuccille, one thing is increasingly apparent: The TSA is spectacularly inefficient and inept at everything it tries to do.

Gotta love a government that…

The Parting Thought – Dollar no longer reigns king

People don't want reality, they want fantasy

The Dollar A Safe Haven?  Plan to Replace the Dollar already here…

This ongoing lunacy is based on multiple biases. For some, the dollar represents America, and a collapse of the currency would suggest a failure of the republic, and thus, a failure by them as individual Americans who live vicariously through the exploits of their government. By extension, it becomes “patriotic” to defend the dollar’s honor and deny any information that might suggest it is on a downward spiral.

Others see how the investment world clings to the dollar as a kind of panic room; a protected place where one’s saving will be insulated from crisis. However, just because a majority of day trading investors are gullible enough to overlook the Greenback’s pitfalls does not mean those dangerous weaknesses disappear.

There is only one factor that shields the dollar from implosion, and that is its position as the world reserve currency. Without this exalted status, the currency’s value vanishes. Backed by nothing but massive and unpayable debt, it sits frighteningly idle, like a time bomb, waiting for the moment of ignition.

The horrifying nature of the dollar is that it is only valuable so long as foreign investors believe that we will pay back the considerable debts that we (the American taxpayer at the behest of our criminally run Treasury) owe, and that we will not hyperinflate in the process. If they EVER begin to see their purchases of dollars and treasuries as a gamble instead of an investment, the façade falls away.

The Dollar Dump Has Already Begun

Foreign countries ARE already calmly and quietly dumping the dollar as a global trade instrument.

To those people who consistently claim that the dollar will never be dropped, my response is, it already has been dropped! China, in tandem with other BRIC nations, has been covertly removing the greenback as the primary trade unit through bilateral deals since 2010. First, with Russia, and now with the whole of the ASEAN trading bloc and numerous other markets, including Japan. China in particular has been preparing for this eventuality since 2005, when they introduced the first Yuan denominated bonds. The bonds were considered a strange novelty back then, especially because China had so much surplus savings that it seemed outlandish for them to take on treasury debt. Today, the move makes a whole lot more sense. China and the BRIC nations today openly call for a worldwide shift away from the dollar.

There IS a replacement already conveniently ready to roll forward. The IMF has for a couple of years now openly called for the retirement of the dollar as the world reserve currency, to be supplanted by the elitist organization’s very own “Special Drawing Rights” (SDR’s).

The SDR is a paper mechanism created in the early 1970’s to replace gold as the primary means of international trade between foreign governments. Today, it has morphed into a basket of currencies which is recognized by almost every country in the world and is in a prime position to take the dollar’s place in the event that it loses reserve status. This is not theory. This is cold hard reality. For those who claim that the SDR is not considered a “real currency”, they should probably warn the U.S. Post Office, which now uses conversion tables that denominate costs in SDR’s.

It is impossible to introduce into society
a greater change and a greater evil than this:
the conversion of the law into an instrument of plunder."

-- Frederic Bastiat
(1801-1850) French economist

FarmaGeddon…more anti-citizen behavior from government

In today’s issue I’d like you to pay a special note to the story in the Parting Thought section about the assault of small family-owned farms in this country.  There seems to be nothing sacred anymore to our government…they just can’t keep from meddling and screwing the taxpayer.  In too many instances, it seems the government creates an ‘Us against them’ situation and frankly, most of us are sick of it.

This very day, the news came across my screen. The Department of Labor had planned to destroy it all, and then barely pulled back when faced with massive protest. The bureaucracy was on the verge of passing new rules that would have banned many kids from working on farms. An exception in the law against "child labor" has always been made for agriculture. FDR would have been impeached if the 1938 law had not included that exception.

Due to government policies (and other factors) food prices are hammering the family budget…

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2010 (the most recent year data was available) the average American household spent more than $6,000 on food. Since the average household spent just over $48,000 that year, that means more than 12 percent of the average family’s budget was eaten up by food.

So taking a bite out of your food budget is a worthy goal. And achievable – food offers tons of ways to save. Slice just 10 percent off that food bill, and you’ll free up $600 for things that are more appetizing – like slicing and dicing debt or beefing up savings.

Now let’s provide more detail to those tips, and add a bunch more…

1. Stop paying for names

Stacy tells the story of years ago standing in a Walgreens with a camera and microphone and asking people why they’re buying name-brand drugs like aspirin when inches away sits an identical generic version for half the price. Note that these aren’t similar items – a quick glance at the label will reveal they’re identical.

Answer? Either “This is what I’ve always bought,” or “If it costs more, it must be better.”

We all think advertising doesn’t affect us, but if your pantry and medicine cabinet are stuffed with name brands, advertising isn’t just affecting you – it’s costing you. Are there situations where name brands actually deliver quality or taste that makes them worth the extra money? Of course, and that’s when you should buy them. But if you’re paying 30 percent more for sugar, salt, flour, bleach, or other simple staples, wake up and smell the (generic) coffee.

2. Bulk up

If you know you’ll use all of it, buy it in bulk. For example, I can buy 1 pound of rice at my grocery store for $3.15. Instead, I buy 25 pounds at Sam’s Club for $9.99. By buying in bulk, I save $2.75 per pound. Can’t begin to use it all? That’s what friends and freezers are for.

Just because something’s available in bulk, however, doesn’t automatically make it a smart buy: Generics are often cheaper than bulk-packaged name brands. Don’t ever buy in bulk without comparing prices…Read all the tips here:

The percentage of Americans that own homes is dropping rapidly. According to Gallup, the current level of homeownership in the United States is the lowest that Gallup has ever measured.

The Nanny State Updates…

It’s almost tiring trying to keep up with the non-stop BS from government and its efforts at killing our country with stupid regulation and even dumber laws…

"This is Big Brother on steroids."

That is how Rep. Mike Rogers, chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, described an amendment offered by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee to the "Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act" (CISPA).

The amendment would have authorized the Secretary of Homeland Security "to acquire, intercept, retain, use, and disclose communications and other system traffic that are transiting to or from or stored on Federal systems".

Rogers said, as reported by CNET.com's Declan McCullagh, "This would be the government tracking communications, your medical records from the Veterans Association, your IRS forms coming in and out of the federal government. This is exactly what scares people."

Only in America…

Herrin - An Illinois woman recently found herself under arrest and put in debtors' prison over an unpaid $280 medical bill she didn't even owe in the first place.

Breast cancer survivor and Herrin, IL resident Lisa Lindsay had received a $280 medical bill by mistake according to the Daily Mail. However after inquiring about the charges Lindsay was told she didn't have to pay but somehow the bill still made its way to a collection agency.

Thinking the matter was put to rest, the southern Illinois teaching assistant surprisingly received a visited from Illinois state troopers one day and was promptly taken from her home in handcuffs and whisked away to jail.

After all was said and done the arrest ended up costing Lindsay more than $600 in total after legal fees were added to the original amount.

"I paid it in full so they couldn't do it to me again," said Lindsay.

Cases such as Lindsay's are becoming increasingly more common across the country with one third of the fifty states currently allowing debtors to be imprisoned for the inability to pay their debts.

Barack Obama and his family continue to live the high life at the expense of the U.S. taxpayer.

Even many Democrats are starting to get very upset about this. The following is from a recent article by Paul Bedard....

Blue collar Democratic voters, stuck taking depressing “staycations” because they can’t afford gas and hotels, are resentful of the first family’s 17 lavish vacations around the world and don’t want their tax dollars paying for the Obamas’ holidays, according to a new analysis of swing voters.

The Parting Thought – Farmageddon in the USA

Just like the middle class, the family farm is heading for extinction.

Intrusive government agencies and regulation, fuel prices, Big Corporate crushing tactics are all killing small farmers in this country…

Between 1970 and today the United States has lost 88 percent of its dairy farms.

Less than 25 percent of all farms in America bring in gross revenues in excess of $50,000. The following comes from the EPA website....

It has been estimated that living expenses for the average farm family exceed $47,000 per year. Clearly, many farms that meet the U.S. Census' definition would not produce sufficient income to meet farm family living expenses. In fact, fewer than 1 in 4 of the farms in this country produce gross revenues in excess of $50,000.

Today, there are 10 corporations that control most of the things that Americans eat and drink on a daily basis.

The Labor Department proposed bringing all manner of farm chores under the child-labor laws. After howls of protest prompted by a story at The Daily Caller, the plan has been dropped. “This regulation will not be pursued for the duration of the Obama administration,” says a press release from the department.

Thus, we have a rerun of last year’s incident, in which anyone who drives a farm vehicle would have had to get a commercial driver’s license. The Transportation Department had to back off that one too.

But every time public opposition makes the bureaucrats back off, you can count on them to come back with something different... or perhaps stealthier
.

The Government Gestapo at Work…violating rights

Amazingly, in spite of all this there are still some small farmers that are able to overcome all of these obstacles and run successful businesses.

But that is where the federal government comes in.

In recent years, the federal government has become absolutely obsessed with going after small farmers.

For example, a recent Food Freedom News article detailed what the feds have been doing to Randy and Karen Sowers. They were keeping their cash deposits under $10,000 so that they would not have to fill out a bunch of paperwork, and the federal government came down on them like a hurricane....

“Structuring,” explains Overlawyered.com, “is the federal criminal offense of splitting up bank deposits so as to keep them under a threshold such as $10,000 above which banks have to report transactions to the government.”

While being questioned, the Sowers were finally presented with a seizure order and advised that the feds had already emptied their bank account of $70,000. The Dept. of Justice has since sued to keep $63,000 of the Sowers’ money, though they committed no crime other than maintaining their privacy.

Without funds, they will be unable to make purchases for the spring planting.

When a similar action was taken against Taylor’s Produce Stand last year, the feds seized $90,000, dropped the charges, and kept $45,000 of Taylor’s money.

Knowing that most farms operate on a very thin margin, such abuse of power wipes out a family’s income, and for a bonus, the feds enhance the monopoly power of Monsanto, Big Dairy and their supply chain.

At many other small farms across America, the feds have conducted military-style raids at the crack of dawn over the smallest infractions.

Some examples of this were detailed in a documentary entitled "Farmaggedon".
