How to live through economic meltdown and hyperinflation

Financially, it seems as if the end is near. Economic Armageddon is upon us, as the Federal government lubricates the moving parts on the printing presses and new money begins to fly out.

In his special report, Shadow Government Statistics: Analysis Behind and Beyond Government Economic Reporting, John Williams wrote,

The U.S. economy is in an intensifying inflationary recession that eventually will evolve into a hyperinflationary great depression. Hyperinflation could be experienced as early as 2010, if not before, and likely no more than a decade down the road. The U.S. government and Federal Reserve already have committed the system to this course through the easy politics of a bottomless pocketbook, the servicing of big-money special interests, and gross mismanagement.

It is now a decade down the road, and this was written before the U.S. Congress passed and President Barack Obama and subsequently Donald Trump and now Joe Biden signed their multi-trillion-dollar economic stimulus bills into effect.

The amount of money being spent is unprecedented in human history.

So what will the enormous spending program do? It will push simple inflation (a continuing rise in prices due to an increased volume of money and credit relative to available goods and services) into hyperinflation.

That's because fiat money implies by its definition that it self-destructs through depreciation (inflation). Anything that can be created to infinity with political incentive eventually becomes worthless. There are no exceptions. For paper money to work, its issue must be equal to the production of goods and services.

Does anyone think that is the case today? Dream on, if you do.

There is plenty of historical precedent for prolificacy of money creation bringing hyperinflationary chaos which then collapses into depression. The stark reality is that the public has no clue until a collapse arrives and completely destroys their assets and their lives.

A currency collapse is progressing every day with each new dollar that is printed. Now is the time to realize it, rather than later when chaos reigns and everyone is trying to survive at the same time.

We can't have wide open money printing and have a viable and strong currency at the same time. Again I would say dream on if you think so.

So, what are our predictions? Long-dated Treasurys will show huge losses when interest rates begin to rise. In time, Treasury securities will reach "junk status," and in the long term all U.S. debt will become junk. This outcome is near.

You may ask, "But Bob, why would the Federal government leave us vulnerable to such a dreadful occurrence as a spiraling crescendo of hyperinflation?"

Does greed, corruption and general cluelessness sound like a good enough reason?

Even at this time, Treasurys pay less than the rate of official inflation, never mind the unofficial inflation numbers. Millions of retired people are now experiencing a lower standard of living.

The same is true with certificates of deposit, which pay an interest rate less than the rate of inflation. In other words, if you have your money stashed in what you believe is a safe return CD, you are losing money every day.

Though most are oblivious, U.S. dollar savers are being routed. Savings accounts are paying interest rates less than the devaluation of the dollar. This U.S. dollar crash syndrome is an autoimmune disease where people (the rich and the poor) are impoverished because they were thrifty and saved.

But saving your money by putting it under the mattress is no good either. As the value of the dollar shrinks so does the value of your savings.

With depreciating currency comes rising prices. Depreciating currency brings a lower standard of living and equally a permanent loss of asset values. Look to Venezuela as a current example. And Zimbabwe before that. In December 2008, inflation was over a trillion percent and the economy had been "dollarized," signifying that local currency was virtually unacceptable as legal tender. But Zimbabwe is not the only modern example of an economy ruined by government overspending. In fact, there are many other examples:

  • Turkey, 2007 — Turkey has suffered from chronic inflation for decades. In 1980, one U.S. dollar was worth 90 Turkish lira. By 2004, a U.S. dollar was worth 1.3 million Turkish lira. As a result, in 2007 the government simply declared a revaluation of the Turkish lira. One million Turkish lira would, from then on, be worth only 1 lira.
  • Romania, 2005 — In 1998, the highest denomination in Romania was 100,000 lei. By 2005 the highest had become 1 million lei. The Romanian government then devalued its currency, declaring that one new leu would be worth 10,000 lei.
  • Argentina, 2001 — Overspending by the Argentine government resulted in massive inflation in the 1980s and '90s. By 1992, one new peso was worth 100 billion pre-1983 pesos. (Because the old peso had been devalued so much, if Argentines had stuffed their pesos under the mattress in 1982 they would have ended up with nothing.)
  • Russia, 1994 — Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the new Russia saw annual inflation as high as 2,500 percent in 1992. By 1994 it had dropped to 850 percent because of a tightening of monetary policy and the failure to pay wages to workers in state enterprises, a policy that kept prices low by depressing demand. The value of the ruble declined from 40 rubles to the dollar in 1991 to 30,000 rubles to the dollar by 1999.

If the annual cost of living increases just 5 percent or 6 percent, the purchasing power of money will rapidly vanish. And because of negative real interest rates, consumer price inflation will accelerate, a fact not known by the public. The real spending power of households whose income depends on fixed interest instruments will be cut, reducing their standard of living.

For example, in 1933 the Consumer Price Index (the price of a basket of common goods purchased by the average consumer) was 12.8. In 2008 the CPI was 225. In other words, that same basket of goods has increased from just under $13 to $225. Currently, it's 271, and that's without goods and services that actually price inflate — because they have been taken out of the CPI. Who knows what it would actually be, comparatively speaking.

But it would be high, as anyone who has gone to the grocery store or to buy gas has figured out. Once again, inflation is starting to outpace economic predictions.

As prices rise and the lower classes find it increasingly more difficult to buy necessities, O'Bidenomics will increase taxes on the producers and savers even more, hoping to spread the wealth around. As the spending kicks in, the formerly profligate-spending conservatives will claim to have had an epiphany. They will kick and scream at the thought of running up more debt than they already have caused. But that's a farce.

We are still trying to understand America in terms of capitalism and free enterprise, when in fact America is now a socialist country with a pretty face called democracy.

All fiat systems in history have been in socialist states, no matter the national pretense, as in our term, democracy. Socialist states have a history of suppressing their own people. And all socialist fiat money states/countries transfer wealth and production to the state without payment. Of course, as in America today, this transfer takes place via the depreciation of paper money. The owner of the money printing press owns and controls all wealth and production.

How to prepare

You don't have to just sit by and do nothing. There are simple, easy, inexpensive steps you can take right now to protect your family.

I've prepared a 21st-century survival guide called the Ultimate Hyperinflation Defense Manual that I believe can help you prepare for the worst financial threats America now faces.

This manual is chock-full of proven strategies, techniques and information that can make all the difference during the financial emergency that is inflation, or hyperinflation. In fact, my newly-updated and revised Ultimate Hyperinflation Defense Manual can make your life better even if, God willing, we sidestep some of the economic catastrophes that I fear are coming.

That's because the steps you take now to prepare for some of these possible disasters will end up making you financially stronger... more independent... and more self-reliant than you are now.

You won't find this privately printed dossier in stores. I've developed it exclusively for my extended family of readers, and I've packed it with practical, real-world strategies for coping with a financial catastrophe.

Let me give you some examples:

  • In addition to physical gold and silver, look to invest in companies that mine the metals. Stock in these companies, as well as those that are involved in the extreme push for green energy, which will have an effect on demand for old-fashioned fossil fuel-reliant systems and processes — especially chip makers — are good bets.
  • Consider buying stocks in foreign countries. However, remember that while China is still growing, it is cracking down relentlessly on different sectors, and those stocks are losing 25-50 percent of their value in a day and may never recover. India is still a growing economy in an otherwise dismal global market.
  • If you are getting into foreign stocks, be sure you find a broker that specializes in foreign stocks. There are a few in the U.S. When you think you've found one make sure it's not one that trades through domestic market makers through so-called Pink Sheets, which can cost you money.
  • There are some blue-chip stocks that are great hedge plays against inflation. These are large companies, foreign-owned, that pay dividends and produce products that are not only popular with Americans, but around the world.
  • If you do decide to invest in the stock market, be sure you take delivery of your stock certificates. Don't leave them in the hands of the brokerage house.
  • Although most investment advisors recommend government bonds as a conservative investment and inflation hedge, we have slightly different advice, as well as a different outlook on the keys to investing and the preservation of wealth during hyperinflationary times.

One of the most important lessons to take away from former financial crises is that you need to do careful planning for your own survival during the tough financial times that are ahead. We are facing an imminent era of hyperinflation and these steps and more, in addition to everything you need to know about buying and safely storing gold and silver, are included in my special report The Ultimate Hyperinflation Defense Manual.

For years now, we've been reporting on health, investment and personal survival strategies the government hopes you'll never hear about. It's a point of view that is fiercely independent and is focused solely on your individual well-being. That's why if you want even more advice, wealth-building strategies and dozens of ideas to protect yourself from what is happening to our economy right now, I urge you to take a moment and visit this page.

I will help you get your assets out of paper money and convert them to real, physical assets. I'm convinced that you can protect yourself and even increase your wealth over the next several years as the government depreciates the value of the U.S. dollar... inflation goes through the roof... and the price of gold continues to skyrocket. So please go here now! Times of great economic upheaval present rare opportunities to make life-altering decisions not possible at any other time!

Yours for the truth,

17 Uses for Liquor After The SHTF

Stockpiling alcohol is a great way to help you and your family survive after the world goes down the toilet. Not only does it never expire, but alcohol can also disinfect wounds and help keep the body warm in the most dire of situations.

Alcohol is easy to store given that most items are packaged in glass bottles, making them virtually indestructible when put up and left alone. Minus an earthquake or other natural disaster, glass bottles should last for years as long as they are packaged correctly.

Check out these 17 ways to use liquor for survival after SHTF...

Prepare for Coming Shortages

Over the years I have heard preppers lumped into the same boat as Hoarders. This is always with a negative connotation but I think that the connection, while it makes a certain amount of sense if viewed in the proper context,  is instead almost always linked to the more severe and unrelated Psychological condition of Compulsive Hoarding. The conflation of these two terms takes the very real, natural instincts of preppers and equates them to people with psychological issues who live in squalor. We have seen in the news even now how the label of ‘hoarder’ is used to demean and even criminalize what should be considered rational behavior in my opinion.

Hoarding is normal by humans during times of scarcity. It is how the smart survive while the foolish perish. You accumulate or store additional provisions that you likely will need later but due to forces beyond your control, are unable to get. Hoarding by preppers is usually associated with food because if you can’t get food you die. It makes perfect sense to me that if I know there will be a shortage of food and I won’t be able to go down to the local grocery store to purchase more, that I should make plans before the scarcity arrives to obtain more food. My children still need to eat regardless of what is available for me on the shelves. To not plan for their needs when I have the ability and foreknowledge to do so would seem to be a type of willful neglect.

Animals hoard food all the time and we don’t look at them as having some type of mental deformity do we? Animals certainly don’t have access to grocery stores or shopping malls, but that doesn’t mean they don’t consider the very real fact that they have to provide for themselves in times when food is less plentiful.

Compulsive hoarding is completely different and has been the subject of at least one reality TV Show. Compulsive hoarders aren’t stocking up on food because the supply is inconsistent and prone to rationing. The compulsive hoarders simply don’t throw anything away. They feel attached to certain items and the space these items take up in their homes eventually cause health issues. To compare a father stocking up food because the lines at the grocery store stretch on for blocks and rationing has begun to someone who is living in a house of useless items they purchased on the Home Shopping Network, but can’t bear to throw away, is logically fallacious.

Why should I worry about hoarding anything

Preppers have a very real and valid reason of stockpiling basic supplies in my opinion. We stock up food and water for just the very possibility that we will need them and be unable to acquire them. This could be due to a disaster or sickness that forces everyone to stay inside until conditions are safe. It could be for something like the beginnings of an economic collapse where food supplies simply aren’t reliable as they once were.

Today in Venezuela they are experiencing this very thing. Venezuela is heavily dependent on imports for their food and medicine but their economy is in such bad shape that all of their supply lines are being disrupted. Things are so bad already that they are arresting store managers under the charge that they have been hoarding food. In this case, the managers allegedly were holding back supplies and selling them at higher prices.

They are also taking steps to prevent people from buying more food and stocking up by installing fingerprint scanners in grocery stores. This is done directly to enforce the policy of government rationing that is currently in place. They are demonizing people who want to store extra for their families and in the process they are creating less stability.

Can you envision a scenario like this in the United States? Venezuela’s inflation rate is expected to rise from 270% to over 720% this year alone. Earlier in the year, there were shortages of toilet paper and daily the citizens of Venezuela are already forced by rationing policies to limit their shopping to one day a week where they are only able to get what is available and have to stand in line all day. Even the electricity is being rationed.

No, the economic condition in the U.S. is not the same as in Venezuela. We aren’t as dependent on selling our oil to other countries and we don’t import a majority of our food. We actually export our food to countries like Venezuela. But the factors that lead to shortages and rationing don’t have to be the same for the threat to be realized. There are any number of reasons why in our future, events could conspire to cause shortages at the grocery store. We could be forced to abide by rationing policies on certain items or even shopping in general. We could be faced with electricity rationing or outages due to terrorist actions or even failures in fragile grid systems.

What items should I be hoarding now?

If you don’t want to be that poor mother who has to lock her children in doors as she goes down to the store to wait in line for hours for a chance to purchase the few remaining items on the shelf you can do something about that.

  • Take stock of items that you use every day that your family depends on for survival. The categories are pretty basic: Food, Water, and Medicine. You can use our Food Storage Calculator to figure out how much you need to store. The foods you regularly eat are the best, but long-term storable freeze-dried foods give you more flexibility.
  • Identify storage locations in your home and develop a good food storage rotation plan for the items you eat every day. Long-term storage is your back up.
  • Consider items that might sell out first or your family needs a little more urgently. Baby formula and diapers come to mind although both can be supplemented or even replaced by nursing and cloth diapers. Medicines your children or older loved ones need are more difficult. Try to gain additional supplies from your doctor by saying you will be traveling soon.
  • Firearms and ammunition usually seem to be confiscated at some point in a collapsing/tyrannical government. Venezuela instituted mandatory gun disarmament centers after they declared private ownership of firearms illegal. This was done they said to ‘make cities safer’ which they always conveniently forget to say that criminals don’t obey laws (hence the name criminal) and won’t turn in their illegal guns. In spite of every citizen turning in their legal firearms, Venezuela has the highest murder rate in the world. So if you don’t want to go quietly into the night make sure you have some firearms and enough ammunition stored safely away before this happens.
  • Backup Power Options – If the electric grid is compromised, having a backup solar power system could have multiple benefits. Obviously, with the means to provide yourself with power in the absence of grid-based options you can power electric devices like refrigerators to keep medicine cool or fans to offset the effects of a heat wave. You can charge your portable electronics like cell phones and tablets, recharge batteries for hand radios and if you have enough capacity you can also barter your electric charging ability for other items. You may be able to trade recharging a battery for food, medicine or ammunition.
  • Precious metals and extra cash – Banks around the world are already charging negative interest rates. They charge you to keep your money which they turn around and lend out at interest. Eventually they will limit the amount of money you can take out. Make sure you have alternate sources to purchase the supplies you need. It may eventually be on a black market type of system.
  • Have a backup plan to leave – You may find in the worst type of situation that leaving is your only option. Do you have passports for your entire family? Do you have bug out bags if you are forced to leave on foot? Do you have suitable transportation?

Prepping is about foreseeing bad situations and planning ahead so your family will be safe. Venezuela is only one example where the habits and traits of preppers could be helpful for survival. Let’s hope we never have to worry about that here, but prepare anyway in case we do. Your family will appreciate your efforts if you are forced into this type of scenario.

12 Places To Hide Your Survival Supplies During Martial Law

If and when the government declares martial law after a disaster, it will be under the pretense of safety and security for the general public. And I'm sure that for many authorities, that will be their sole intention.

However, if the disaster is something that causes severe food and water shortages, the government could start confiscating supplies from "hoarders." They will demonize people who have stockpiled lots of food and call them "selfish" or "unpatriotic." They could even go door to door looking for hidden food stockpiles.

So you have to ask yourself: If the authorities searched my home, how quickly would they find my emergency supplies? Would they find them right away, or would it take a while? Would they find everything, or would they overlook a few things...?

No such thing as too much stored water; other preps

Poor Man Survival

ISSN 2161-5543

A Digest of Urban Survival Resources

There is no such thing as “too much” stored water

Water is one of the most important resources we need for life. Unlike other supplies, it is not interchangeable with another product, and to be ingested, it must go through a purification process.

I have never been prepared for a water shortage before. Now I know it is important to keep water stored safely in closed containers. If water is not drinkable, it must be purified before ingesting it since contaminated water can cause serious gastrointestinal diseases.

Water is not just for drinking but is used in many other activities, such as cooking and cleaning, so I had to learn some purification techniques that can be done at home.

One of the most popular techniques to decontaminate water is to boil it for three minutes. Purification tablets are also very useful, not that expensive, and easy to use.

Adding five drops of chlorine per liter of water as an emergency measure is another way to clean the stored water.

Grains are my friends

To eat properly, it is necessary to consume proteins, fats, and carbohydrates.

The moment I realized that animal protein was scarce—in addition to the fact that the electricity problems spoiled it—I had to investigate the nutritional content of other foods in order to keep myself well-fed.

Lentils are grains that are easy to store, non-perishable, and high in protein. Together with a cereal like rice, they make a complete meal that keeps us well-nourished and in good health.

Let there be light: candles, matches, flashlights, and batteries

After spending more than four hours without power, I began to worry. I had some candles saved, but I did not know where they could be. I also had a couple of flashlights, but I had removed the batteries to prevent them from being sulfated.

Candles and matches must be in several easily accessible places. Likewise, the batteries should be in the same place where the flashlights are kept, and we must be sure that they have a charge.

During this year, the country suffered the most serious electrical crisis. In several areas, there were blackouts of up to five days.

After a couple of days without electricity, the candles will not be enough, so learning to make oil lamps becomes a vital skill in this situation.

The lack of electricity can lead to a state of anguish that grows with the passage of time. It is important to do everything possible to minimize that effect.

Be prepared with medicines, but it’s better to learn from nature

Due to my profession, I am always very attentive about keeping basic medications, such as anti-inflammatories, analgesics, and antibiotics, in the cabinet.

When I had to live in an SHTF situation, my medical supplies became insufficient, and I couldn’t find any in the pharmacies or they were too expensive. So I had to learn a little more about natural medicine, its uses, and its benefits.

I must say that this is one of the most important things I learned during that time.

Many anti-inflammatory drugs and synthetic analgesics damage the stomach mucosa as a side effect. In situations of stress, there is a large production of acids in the stomach, so using drugs that further damage this organ is not the best idea.

Roots such as ginger and turmeric are excellent anti-inflammatories. They are easy to get and easy to store. Likewise, garlic is a potent analgesic.

In the case of presenting wounds or cuts and not having antibiotic ointments, honey, ginger, and cloves are foods that have scientifically proven antibiotic properties.

Chamomile and lavender are natural relaxants and help fight stress and insomnia.

No matter how big the supply of medicines we have, it will always be more economical, favorable, and easy to store the natural product, with equal and, in some cases, greater effects.

Cash

Banks have made life easier for us with the use of debit and credit cards. However, there are situations in which having a lot of money in the bank does not help much, and I learned it the hard way.

When there is an electrical fault, despite the fact that light and other electrical services have been restored already, the digital communication of the points of purchase become so affected that it is impossible to buy anything in this way.

For this reason, I understood that it is always important to keep some amount of cash for this type of contingency.

Take advantage of any time you get to replace supplies

Although during those years I did not have to be locked in a bunker without being able to leave, the feeling of confinement was quite similar. When, in spite of having the money, you can’t find what you need to eat or, despite having a private vehicle, you can’t move for lack of gasoline, the situation becomes desperate.I understood that in those moments in which there was an opportunity to replace the supplies I had at home, especially water and non-perishable food, I had to do it.

The situation in my country has improved. Although still not at the best economic and social level, and with many problems of scarcity and lack of some supplies, society has been regularized.

However, I appreciate the years that taught me these valuable lessons that I still apply.

The most important thing I learned was to be prepared for when an SHTF situation strikes again.

Does it seem like the wheels are falling off?

Every headline brings more bad news about another crisis.

It’s not going to stop. This is just the beginning.

The time to become self-reliant is right now!

Renowned radio host, filmmaker, book author and archeological dig expert Steve Quayle has been warning of dark times coming for America and the world.  Quayle now warns of a specific time frame, “I can’t remember a more dangerous time than the month of June.”

We will be seeing civil war, nuclear war and financial calamity soon.  Quayle predicts dramatic changes coming, and most people are simply not aware or even prepared in the slightest.  Quayle says, “I am on record that we are already undergoing a communist takeover and takedown.

There is no regress at the ballot box any longer.  I hear that we can win the 2024 election.  If everybody in the Congress, with the exception of a few Senators and Congressmen, and the cabinet are still part of the appointed Left, what would a President, whether it is Trump or DeSantis, be able to do?

The whole military is shot. . . . Communist takeovers and takedowns always result in millions of people dying. . . . Back in the days of the Weather Underground, they wanted to kill 25 million to 40 million people.  Now, we are up to 120 million people that need to be killed.”

Civil War Preparedness: Food and Water

Urban populations continue to grow in size and commonality. Civil conflict and civil war have proven to be a human universal across cultures and eras. If history is any guide, and if current events can be used as the canary in the coal mine, it is only a matter of time before a hot conflict or civil war breaks out in our urban environments (such as it has in Ukraine, Syria, and other locations) in the West.

By looking at how others have learned to survive in cities during these dangerous and violent conflicts, we can better prepare for these circumstances. Cities are not necessarily what one thinks of when they think of war, but civilians and soldiers have found themselves in urban struggles throughout our history.

A citizen of Rome under siege, starving in 537AD, is going to have a lot more in common with a starving citizen of Sarajevo in 1992 than you may first think. As Haslow would basically put it, our basic needs as humans have always been water/food, shelter, and security. This has not, and will not, change...

Civil War Preparedness: Food and Water

“But we must realize that even this tendency to restrict the exploitation of class privileges is a fairly common ingredient of totalitarianism. Totalitarianism is not simply amoral.
