"The problems we face today cannot be solved by the minds that created them” - Albert Einstein

Starting With this Issue..
Our twice weekly posting will be smaller, more condensed.  There are three reasons.  Fewer people read during the summer months.  Few people read lengthy blog posts (reduced attention spans) AND, beginning July 15th, we’re launching PMPrivate.  This ‘members-only’ newsletter will focus more on saving and making money, how-to’s, DIY and will offer many more free downloads of useful books and other materials.

It will not be available to the general public.  It will not be posted to any online site.  There will be a nominal annual subscription fee.

Also, on our main page (see top) we’ve added a live precious metals chart which you can use to check on the price of gold, silver and other metals.

Enjoy the summer and take a minute to review our new PMPrivate newsletter (you need to scroll down a bit under the description for the free version of the newsletter)…some very nice bonuses to start folks off with the introductory price is extremely reasonable.

Boost your community by making a match with a charity’s wish list at ExcessAccess.or – 415-242-6041. Post a list of things you no longer want, while nonprofits post their needs list.

PM’s Compendium of Useful Resources

Preserving your family's food is an old idea that is making a comeback. With the average household's net worth down a whopping 40%, millions of middle-class Americans are rediscovering all the new technology that lets them sidestep major food inflation.

When you dehydrate foods, you can save money. Drying your own meats, herbs, and produce is cheaper than buying pre-packaged dried foods
Dried foods are more nutritious than canned goods. I do recommend you do some canning so you'll have more variety in your food stores – and because, if water is ever scarce, canned foods are essential.
But, it's important to keep in mind that when you dry foods, they retain 95 percent of their nutritional value. Canned goods retain only about 40 percent of the vitamins and minerals they had when fresh. From a nutritional standpoint, dried foods are superior.
And, they're easy to make at home

Yes, You Can Build Your Own Solar Food Dehydrator
Building a solar food dehydrator is similar to building a box-style solar oven.
The simplest style starts with a box made of wood or metal. Instead of a flat top, you should build the box with an angled top. You'll make the angled top from glass or a sheet of clear plastic, so as much sun as possible can enter the box, helping your food dryer to heat up. For optimal heating, build the top at approximately a 45-degree angle.

Rather than a solid bottom, use a sheet of fine metal screening material to allow air to enter the box. Affix the bottom about 4 inches up the interior sides of the box, so your screen isn't resting right on the ground. Drying food requires a constant flow of warm air, so you'll also cut vent holes near the top on the back of box. Cover the vent holes with screening material, too, to keep bugs out.

The final exterior design change from a standard box-style solar oven is to build a hinged door into the back so you can easily insert and remove your drying racks.
Like a solar oven, you should paint the interior of your solar food dryer black to help the heating process. You'll also build ledges on the interior sides that you can rest shelves on. Allow about four inches of space between the ledges. You'll make drying trays by stretching lightweight, food-grade screen mesh over wooden frames. Each tray should be the same width as the interior of the box – minus a quarter to a half an inch.

Dry Almost Anything
With your solar food dryer, you can dry almost anything. Fruits, vegetables, herbs, and meats are the most common things to dry. Some people make fresh pasta and dry it in their dehydrator, but that seems a little labor-intensive to me, especially when you can buy dried pasta at such a low cost.
But, the cost savings on fruits, vegetables, meats, and herbs over what you can buy in your grocery store is impressive.

Grow 100 Pounds of Potatoes In a Barrel
Timothy Hurst built his own potato barrels and wrote about them on Green Upgrader. He says they reduce weeds, pests, fungi, and eliminate shovel damage to potatoes. See these next 4 slides for his steps. "Just about any 2- to 3-foot tall container will work," he says. Pick a container you can drill drain holes in, and clean it with a mild bleach solution, as he puts it, "to get out the nasties."

The Nanny State Updates…
We are living under a system of almost complete financial surveillance. Authorities can see every major transaction you make and block any of those transactions, often without a warrant. Now, there is a way to transact essentially anonymously and prevent financial blockades.
Financial privacy is a fundamental right which the law does little to protect. In fact, the laws of any country with a central bank and strong bank regulations make financial privacy a very difficult right to exercise.

Central Banks Are Anathema To A Free People

Dissatisfaction with central banks has grown in recent years, as evidenced by the large number of co-sponsors to Dr. Paul’s bill to audit the Fed. Even if the Fed is subjected to an audit, it is only the first of many steps needed to secure more economic freedom and the best financial privacy. That road to financial freedom and financial privacy is a long one. Since the law cannot adequately protect financial privacy, we must find alternative peaceful methods to protect our rights. No matter how dissatisfied we are with central banks, there are few viable legal alternatives.  More at:

As John Lott Says, “More Guns, Less Crime”: “Murder rates have fallen 13 percent from 2008 to 2011 (1.9% from 2010 to 2011). Violent crimes fell by 15 percent over the same time period. Yet, over that same time concealed handgun permits have gone up by 37 percent from about 5 million to around 8 million.” [John Lott’s Website, June 20]

Skip car chargers for your cell phone as these are meant for emergencies only.  Using one regularly can cut off of up to a year of battery life for your phone.

The Parting Thought –

The world doesn’t end that often…and folks are becoming pessimistic as seen in this new Yahoo poll.

·         Is the American dream a myth?
o    Yes, there are fewer opportunities.
54%
o    No, it's a reality if you work hard.
46%

Experience shows that if something is going to go really wrong, predictably waste your time, annoy you, attack your dignity and finally just prove to be totally ineffective at accomplishing the task, there's a good chance that it involves the government.

Society outside the state has corrective forces always at work. Life's not perfect, but it is generally trying its best to improve. But with the state, everything seems to be stuck in a pattern of failure at every level. At best, government does stupid things; at worst, it does unspeakably horrible things.

During this financial crisis that continues to plague America, there's a good chance that your retirement savings, investments and home value has been impacted-and not in a good way. The Federal Reserve reported that the median net worth of American families dropped by nearly 40% from 2007 to 2010.

There might be a war between U.S. citizens and the Fed or its rulers, but overall, the world will muddle on though albeit with the majority of the population at odds with the government…showdown time? If a major shakeup takes place, there will be uncertainty and possibly chaos, at least for a time.

We have absolutely zero hope that Americans will wake up, so…

What could possibly be the good news about America's next financial meltdown?  I’ll let you answer that.

We hope you take advantage of our PMPrivate newsletter at its almost ridiculous low introductory price.  Visit:  http://www.poormansurvival.com/Pages/Brucebulletin.aspx

Announcement: PMPrivate to Launch in July

PM Private

For those who are serious about being independent.

Here is a detailed briefing on how to seize upon a membership in my exclusive PM Private Newsletter.  Start Date:  July 15th

The world is no longer ambling along the path of tyranny.  It's sprinting.  Indefinite detentions...stripping of citizenship of some...denial of re-entry for others...TSA agents moving out from airports to the train station and highways...Anyone who denies the ongoing transformation of the U.S. into totalitarianism at this point is just being willfully stupid.

Imagine a future in which the United States is facing an unmitigated economic implosion. Not just a mere market crash, or a stint of high unemployment, but a full spectrum collapse driven by unsustainable debt spending and hyperinflationary printing. The American people witness multiple credit downgrades of U.S. Treasury mechanisms, the dollar loses its reserve status, devaluation of the currency runs rampant, and the prices of commodities and imported goods immediately skyrocket.

You are the enemy.

Your way of life is the enemy. And your belief in your freedom to live that life as you see fit is in the cross hairs of a government desperate to maintain the status quo.

Your freedom is being destroyed. But it's happening slowly so as not to stir the masses hypnotized by their TV and video game lifestyle.

It’s been my goal to build a community of liberty minded individuals in preparation for the dangers ahead; to seek local and national solutions, social and political.

The data are in: Inflation is killing wages, one grueling step at a time.

So let me ask you the following: How much is the dollar worth today compared with the year 2000? These are years in which inflation has been supposedly crushed. What's your best guess?

The answer is 75 cents. Imagine that. For every four quarters you owned, one was stolen in secret over the course of the last 12 years

Inflation is adding to the growing despair in the American workforce. Wages are falling. College has become unaffordable; forget working your way through school. Net worth of households is falling in real terms. There is no relief in the terrible employment situation, and there is plenty of misery aside from what the numbers reveal.

The money people do have earns next to nothing at the bank, and the value is being stolen bit by bit every day. It's become nearly impossible for people to stay ahead, which is why half of Americans today believe that the future is going to be worse than the present.

Spam History-We love Spam!

Spam is made by the Hormel Foods Corporation. The company was founded by George A. Hormel in the late 1890s in Austin, Minn. By the Great Depression, George's son Jay was heavily involved in the company. Hormel did a successful fresh-meat business, but all fresh meats basically looked similar, which made it difficult for Hormel to make its products stand out. The fresh-meat industry was also bound by seasonal changes in the meat supply. To solve these problems, Jay Hormel put his energies into developing canned meats.

World War II saw the largest use of Spam, since fresh meat was difficult to get to the soldiers on the front, guamanians started eating Spam for breakfast, lunch and supper. Some soldiers referred to Spam as 'ham that didn't pass its physical' and 'meatloaf without basic training.

Also, Spam was one of the few meat products excluded from the British
food rationing that began in World War II (and continued for a number of years after the war), and the British grew heartily tired of it. The Monty Python comedy troupe used this as the context for their Spam sketch, in which the menu at a greasy spoon cafe consists entirely of dishes containing one or more portions of spam.

So much of the product was donated to France during WWII, it’s one of the few American foods they actually love.

Canned Spam is a great survival food, ask any Boy Scout and now that it’s offered in a turkey, it offers a healthier version.

Local Emergency Response Plan for the Individual, From AbsoluteRights.com

Communities with a local emergency response plan stand a good chance of sustaining a lengthy disaster recovery period, said a recent AbsoluteRights.com article. Unfortunately, the same mentality doesn’t stretch to enough individual families. The article said that leaves a large majority of people completely unprepared for disasters.

The article said that “40 Days and 40 Nights” gives a developmental education in acquiring situational awareness. The training program helps people focus on the elements of a disaster that they can control, and forget about the ones they can’t.

“40 Days and 40 Nights” is a survival guide that shows the path towards emergency preparedness. The members-exclusive website connected to the course contains every informative resource in one online place. Members can access the program from any computer.

The Nanny State Updates…

Cancerous Security Measure?

The TSA wants to assure us that the new X-ray body scanners they are installing in select airports are perfectly safe and necessary. You might feel differently after you read this article produced by PBS NewsHour and ProPublica:

The Parting Thought – Citizens ‘just another brick in the wall’

It has become obvious that the Patriot Act, which many in the public rolled over for (under some protest), was a mere warm up to policies like the following:

FISA: An overarching domestic surveillance bill which joins the cooperative efforts of corporations and government agencies.

The John Warner National Defense Authorization Act: A Bush supported action which allows the president to unilaterally declare a "public or national emergency" for any reason he wishes without congressional consent and institute martial law policies aimed at suppression of the populace (the president is requires by the act to "inform" congress of his intentions after 14 days, but does not give congress the power of oversight). Also solidifies the erasure of Posse Comitatus.

Presidential Directive 51: Signed in private by George W. Bush. Allocates further power to the president to declare a national emergency for any reason he sees fit and to institute Continuity of Government Policies (martial law, among other things). This directive was only partially released to the public, but the entire document remains classified, even to members of Congress!

National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA 2012): Incorporates policies outlined in John McCain and Joseph Lieberman's thoroughly rejected "Enemy Beligerents Act". Allows the president along with the Department of Homeland Security to label anyone, even an American citizen, and "enemy combatant" under the laws of war. This opens the door to the complete dismantling of Habeas Corpus, giving military authorities the ability to arrest U.S. citizens without warrant, without due process, without trial by civilian jury, to be held indefinitely.

Assassination Programs: Obama has not only claimed the right to assassinate American citizens, he has executed such orders. This policy works as an extension of the NDAA, meaning, anyone can be labeled an enemy combatant without trial, and, that person can be detained, or killed, as such. These actions have been opposed by civil liberties unions and politicians alike, but because they have so far only been used against U.S. citizens working with "Al Qaeda", the general public remains on the fence or oblivious to the dangerous precedent. The Constitution specifically outlines what is to be done with Americans who aid the enemy in times of war in the Treason Clause. The Treason Clause allows NO assassination or detainment without trial. In fact, it REQUIRES a trial by jury along with two witnesses testifying to the overt criminal act. The Treason Clause has been ignored by the Obama Administration thus far.

National Defense Resources Preparedness Executive Order: Obama recently signed this executive order which allows the president and the DHS to commandeer or confiscate public and private resources (any resources) in the name of national security, and, even allows for what essentially amounts to forced labor of U.S. citizens in the name of the "national good". An almost exact replication of the powers claimed by Lenin and the Bolsheviks that triggered the Tambov uprising.

Internment And Resettlement Operations: A secret Department of Defense document recently leaked to the public outlines extensive planning on the part of the government to use DHS and FEMA to "relocate" U.S. citizens and detainees to internment camps for processing. Triggers for such a policy could include natural disasters, man-made disasters, and terrorist attacks, among many others. The document specifically requires "special exceptions" to Posse Comitatus, allowing for military operation of the camps in question.

At the pace these executive orders and draconian bills are being churned out and slapped with a stamp of approval, the American people would have to unseat the president, not to mention almost every sitting Senator, and every Congressman, replacing them with true Constitutional statesmen.

Legally, every avenue is being explored, but with little progress. The recent block on the NDAA by 4th District Court Judge Katherine Forrest was a moment of hope amongst anti-NDAA proponents, but the end result was obvious to some of us in the Liberty Movement who know the history of legal action against such legislation.  The Obama Administration has stated that her ruling is basically of no consequence to them, and that they will continue to implement the NDAA as they see fit.

Apparently, the Judicial Branch now only has a say in matters of government when it agrees with the position of the president or DHS. This shows conclusively that the government intends to ignore court based decisions that are contrary to desired policy, and that while the legal fight should be pursued, we should not expect much in the results department.

So, where does this leave us? If we cannot redress our grievances through elections, or through the courts, what is there for a freedom loving American to do? Though the thought causes some to shudder, it is not only logical but imperative that we look at the existing alternatives seriously. Invariably, if a government was to widely enforce any or all of the policies listed above, the result would be citizen dissent, peaceful and militant.
