Do you ever feel like you have no say-so in your life?

The difference between a democracy and a dictatorship is that in a democracy you vote first and take orders later ...

Do you ever feel like you're being overwhelmed by events…that our country is spiraling out of control and that mainstream folks no longer have a say-so in their private affairs?

Well it is true.  The American Dream is being slowly strangled out of existence.

I think that most of us have that feeling .  The single mom who's juggling work, and parenting and trying to make ends meet. Or the retiree who's having trouble keeping up with ever spiraling food or medical costs.  The college grad who is forced to move back in with mom and dad because no decent jobs can be found.  Imagine starting your adult life already in debt to an average tune of $30,000 or more?

The middle class in America is dying. It is estimated that America has lost 10% of its Middle Class and 40% of its purchasing power since 2008 as well. In 2008, 53 percent of all Americans considered themselves to be “middle class”.  But by 2014, only 44 percent of all Americans still considered themselves to be “middle class”.

When you take a look at our young people, the numbers become even more pronounced.  In 2008, 25 percent of all Americans in the 18 to 29-year-old age bracket considered themselves to be “lower class”.  But in 2014, an astounding 49 percent of all Americans in that age range considered themselves to be “lower class”.

Incomes are stagnating, but the cost of living just continues to rise steadily.  This is especially true of basic things that we all purchase such as food.  As I wrote about earlier this year, the price of ground beef in the United States has doubled since the last recession.

We live a frugal life.  No credit cards.  No mortgages.  No loans or car payments.  However, the cost of government mandated insurances and our government managed water system exceeds the cost of my annual college tuition payments and that doesn’t even include tax payments!

In a healthy economy, lots of new businesses are created and now many are being forced to shut down.  But for each of the past six years, more businesses have closed in the United States than have opened.    Prior to 2008, this had never happened before in all of U.S. history.  Government regulation and red tape is choking the life blood out of entrepreneurism and new job creation…but the bureaucrats don’t care as long as their job and gold plated perks are safe.

The United States has dropped to 13th place in terms of economic freedom and entrepreneurial activity – something unheard of 30 years ago when we led the world in free enterprise.

What will government parasites do when there aren’t enough worker drones left to support them?

Most of us feel powerless against well entrenched political elite and their armies of bureaucrats which are destroying the American dream.  Most of us simply want the government to stop interfering in our lives, to just leave us alone, to stop stealing so much of our hard earned money.

The social contract that once existed between corporate America has evaporated and no longer is there any sense of civic duty among so-called civil servants to actually serve the people.  There are few consumer advocates such as Ralph Nader and his famous ‘Nader’s Raider’s” fighting for your rights anymore [perhaps Elizabeth Warren]…for all intents and purposes, you are on your own!

Politicians have been stealing more than 100 million dollars an hour from future generations of Americans since Barack Obama entered the White House.

The destruction of taxation and inflation that are destroying this nation, your finances and that of your children is no accident.  The average American has been the target of an elaborate con game losing billions of dollars in this sting to what I call the Washington-Wall Street Cartel.  While the political elite live high off insider trading and political favors, you have been fleeced and swindled.

In a frenzy of insatiable greed, we have been taking trillions of dollars that belong to our children and our grandchildren and spending it ourselves.  When you break it down, it comes to more than 100 million dollars every single hour of every single day.  This is a crime of unimaginable proportions, and if we lived in a just society a whole bunch of our “top politicians” would [should] be going to prison for this.

You have two choices…continue being a plantation slave, going along with the program OR do something to improve your future and the future of your children!

Every problem has in it the seeds of its own solution.
If you don't have any problems, you don't get any seeds.

- Norman Vincent Peale

The Illusion of Democracy and Freedom and the steps you can take to restore your personal liberty.

Call me jaded and disillusioned but I no longer believe the propaganda which flows out of Washington.  I stopped drinking their Kool-Aid more than 30 years ago.  Our two-party system leaves voters with little or no choice.

Career politicians have scuttled our economy and freedoms, it doesn’t matter which party they pretend to belong to.   I laugh when I hear people say they voted along ‘party lines’ as there is no difference between the two.  With the exception of local elections, your vote does not matter.

There has been a clash between those who uphold and support our Constitution and those who would rather see the un-making of America with the great destroyer (President Obama) leading the charge to our self destruction.

The business of the people has long ago been put on hold while the Washington-Wall Street Cartel milks the middle class and the taxpayer for profit and special deals.  Those in the military know what I am talking about.  It’s always about the money.  Suppliers of military goods have long scammed the taxpayer with $200 hammers and $400 toilet seats.

When our rounds of endless wars finally wind down and profits erode, they’ve turned to new sources of income selling gutless government goons technology used to spy on innocent Americans.  Of course, citizens are forced to foot the bill for our demise.

This is all under the guise of living in a democratic society.  In reality, your vote does not matter as the parties will screw us no matter. The White House and Congress do what they want without regard to public opinion (Obamacare, NSA’s illegal domestic spying,  our seeming inability to secure the border from illegals, etc.)

The public trough has always been just a watering hole for most career politicians (I love the BS phrase ‘Senator Dildo served the public for 20, 30, 40, 50 years.’  All that means is they’ve breast fed at the fountain of the public teat and got better benefits, pay and perks than the people they supposedly serve-politics was never meant to be a lifelong job.  Our founders served without a paycheck, so if modern day politicians want to ‘serve’ let them do so free of salary after the first term).

Regardless of which thieving party has been in office, your rights have been scuttled and your country has gone from being the most prosperous to being the most indebted and the vanishing Middle Class has always paid the tab.

>SIDEBAR<

Report: American Wages Down 23 Percent Since 2008 »
A new report from the U.S. Conference of Mayors delivers a sobering, if unsurprising, statistic about America’s economic recovery since the recession of the late 2000s: Present-day wages in the U.S. are down 23 percent from their 2008 levels, resulting in $93 billion in lost pay for American workersMore »

The American economy is living on borrowed time through the infusion of massive amounts of “printed out of thin air” cash being printed by the Federal Reserve. Anyone with an IQ above room temperature knows that the inevitable economic crash is looming on the horizon. The deficit is $17 trillion dollars and that is the good news.

The unfunded liabilities debt (e.g. Social Security, Medicare, etc.) is estimated to be $240 trillion dollars. Finally, the derivatives debt, which the average citizen has been saddled with paying off through the nonsensical bailouts, is now estimated to $1.5 quadrillion dollars. With the most optimistic estimates that the world’s GDP is less that $100 trillion dollars, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that the ability to pay off the debt through taxation and the endless bailouts is simply not possible.

Perhaps all of us should run a legal notice in our local newspaper announcing as of this date, I am no longer legally liable for any debt incurred by our federal government!

America has lost roughly 10% or more of its middle class just since 2008.  Inflation since 2005 has robbed us of 40% of our spending power and most citizens haven’t enjoyed a real raise since the 1970s when the true rate of inflation is figured in.  What remains of the middle class is primarily comprised of government workers – teachers and school administration, law enforcement and fire departments, bureaucrats and those who benefit from their salaries – lawyers and medical personnel.

The mania for giving the Government power to meddle with the private affairs of cities or citizens is likely to cause endless troubleMark Twain

The assault on the middle class began in the mid-1980s when General Electric led the charge to off-shore US jobs; dozens of other corporations promptly followed, leaving the American worker behind.

Now that Americans can no longer afford the increasing costs of their shrinking consumer goods and higher, nickel and dime taxes they pay, our Wall Street overlords found more fertile grounds in other countries.

Young people born into our heavily statist (fear-based) world don't like it one bit - especially the hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt they are born into and the minimum wage job market they see as their only career course [unless they work for the government].   Their collective disillusionment with the status-quo is beginning to filter into mainstream discourse.

Just one of the up-and-comers is anarchist, Julia Tourianski (see her Anarchast interview here).  She was on Fox News twice last week alone and there are countless others like her.  In production right now are numerous fully anarchist movies (I will be interviewing the producers of two of them in the next week on Anarchast), books and videos that will further hasten anarchy into our lives.

Julia's video, "The Shift - The State of Our Minds and The Mind of the State" perfectly explains the shift that is taking place.

A primary cause of implosion in a nation is the decline or absence of trust and confidence by its people in the leaders and its currency.  Inflation is robbing the middle class daily and there has never been such a decline of trust and confidence in Congress and the White House.

“Watching middle-class conservatives vote for politicians who've proudly pledged to screw them and their children over fills me with the same exasperated contempt I feel for rabbits who zigzag wildly back and forth in front of my tires instead of just getting off the goddamn road.”
Tim Kreider, We Learn Nothing

The Continuing and Often Futile Pursuit of the American Dream

A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll found that despite the steady pace of hiring in recent months, 76% of adults lack confidence that their children's generation will have a better life than they do—an all-time high. Some 71% of adults think the country is on the wrong track, a leap of 8 points from a June survey, and 60% believe the U.S. is in a state of decline.

Last night’s Bill O’Reilly show pointed out the huge numbers of Americans who are dissatisfied with the President and Congress and the direction our country has taken.  History has shown when societies get angry enough they rebel…it may yet happen here as more of us wake up to the knowledge that the future for our children look mighty bleak.

We’ve all witnessed the economic devastation of America. Because of our 8000 pound gorilla governments’ overreach, onerous taxes, debt, regulations, lawsuits (lack of Tort Reform) and increased Internal Revenue Service attacks on business, the odds of starting a new business and succeeding have been severely damaged. This is precisely why there is a severe shortage of new full-time, middle-class-wage jobs. Small business traditionally creates a majority of new jobs, yet small business is under blistering attack by the Barack Obama Administration, the judicial system and our political class.

American household wealth has declined by more than one-third in only 10 years. Over the same time period, electricity, water, fuel, food and tax costs have soared by as much as more than 100 percent.

There is no recovery coming and under the Obama administration, no economic rebound is possible.

If America fails to elect politicians that will actually reduce the taxes, regulations and make it harder to file frivolous lawsuits (with loser-pay laws), as well as reduce the size and spending of government, while providing incentives for businesses creating the jobs, we will see the continued decline of the U.S. economy, the death of Middle Class. I never thought in my lifetime I would see the end of the American dream.

Are You Still a Middle Class Citizen? DIY Economist Tools You Can Use

“A smaller government reflecting the needs of the middle class and poor is superior to a big government reflecting the needs of the privileged and powerful.”
Robert Reich

The Middle Class, once the symbol of America, is being decimated.  I’ve been sounding the alarm about the negative effect the Washington-Wall Street Cartel has had since 1987.   I first warned about how the off-shoring of US jobs, led by General Electric, would harm America and was denounced for my efforts in the business press.

Most are starting to realize that life as we have come to know it is going to change dramatically in the very near future. The manipulation of financial markets, the fabrication of economic figures, and the mobilization (Read: Militarization) of government on all levels has fostered a queasy environment for many who follow such trends.  I want to share some of the indicators I and others review for economic signs of problems…

News pundits like Bill O’Reilly, pooh-pooh the income gap but the reality is more dire than many suspect.

According to a brand new CNN poll, 59 percent of Americans believe that it has become impossible for most people to achieve the American Dream…

Economy rebounds, but percentage of working-age people with jobs stays flat at 6 out of 10…

The "average" American worker earns about $44,000 per year and saves around 4% of his income. And the "average" household has a net worth of approximately $710,000, including the value of homes, investments, bank accounts and so on. But many Americans, needless to say, fall well below those benchmarks, which fail to capture widespread financial distress.

Americans falling behind

This may help explain why the economy seems to be gaining strength — on paper — yet millions of ordinary people feel like they’re falling behind. Americans’ total net worth, for instance, recently hit a new high of $81.8 trillion, thanks to a five-year stock market rally and the gradual restoration of home equity lost during a six-year housing bust. Yet consumer spending remains tepid, home buyers seem to be hibernating and an alarming portion of adults aren’t even looking for work. Polls show widespread pessimism that’s out of sync with an economy supposedly heading into its fifth year of expansion.

The homeownership rate has been declining since 2004 and now stands at 65%; some economists expect it to keep falling.

Economic forecasting is part art, part science and part fortune telling.

There are many tools economists use to estimate our economic vitality.  The problem is, the majority of what they look at come from the government.  Ironically, if businesses kept their books in the same manner as the government, they’d be in jail for keeping funny books.

An imbalance between rich and poor is the oldest and most fatal ailment of all republics."
-- Plutarch

Here are some of the tools used…

For the past several years, oil has been trading around the $90/barrel price.  It is currently at about $102.  While not yet in the danger zone, we need to watch this one more closely.

If the price of light sweet crude oil stays above $120/barrel then you have only a few months before a major financial crisis unfolds. Our nation is an oil based economy and our dollar is often called the petrol-dollar because of its world wide use in trade…something which will not last much longer.

Find current crude oil prices at the Kitco.com site. Look on the left sidebar a bit lower on the page [the Kitco website has a good summary of other prices as gold, silver, US dollar index, etc.].

Look for patterns. Predicting the future is all about understanding patterns and cycles in life.

Nothing Destroys a Currency Faster than lack of faith…

International investors always seek safe harbors for investment.  The United States has held that position for decades but what happens if that faith gets shaky, say when your spending power has been reduced by 40% in the last 10 years?

Q: Which one of our natural resources will become exhausted first?
A: The Taxpayer.

There is a direct correlation between rioting and the cost of food. It is a very simple principle – when people can’t afford to eat, they revolt.

Food prices go up (it is easy to see shrinking food packages at your supermarket) due to high fuel prices, drought, livestock disease, natural disasters and government mismanagement.

Those revolutions were predictable. Here is a detailed article with research and mathematical models of how food prices are related to rioting:

The level of hunger and desperation in the United States has increased in recent years indicated by the increasing numbers of people on food stamps and increasing strain on local food banks.  According to www.FeedingAmerica.org, 1 in 6 Americans are dealing with hunger…. We are approaching conditions for civil unrest and revolt here in the United States.

Consumer Confidence Survey

Five questions are asked of a random sampling of 5,000 individuals, of whom about 3,500 respond. The survey asks their thoughts and feelings about business conditions, the labor market, consumer spending and economic growth, and their financial and employment expectations six months into the future. Each question can be assigned three opinions: positive, negative and neutral.

Why is it important?
This statistic is a leading indicator of consumer spending-consumers are more inclined to spend money when they are feeling confident about their financial and employment prospects.

Where does the data come from?
The Conference Board's Consumer Research Center releases the data monthly on the last Tuesday of each month.

What is it? A gauge of the public's confidence about the health of the U.S. economy that reflects the public's optimism/pessimism and the nation's mood.

Housing & The Economy

Housing construction has been meaningfully additive to overall U.S. GDP in virtually every economic expansion cycle on record. Moreover, sales of home furnishings, appliances, landscaping, and gardening equipment, etc. have contributed to expansion in consumer spending, the largest singular component of U.S. GDP. And maybe most importantly, residential real estate investment has been a key wealth-generation asset for the middle and lower classes for decades.

Residential housing has typically been purchased with leverage that has been paid down over time accompanied by a commensurate increase in household equity as homeowner’s age and mortgages are paid off.  Particularly for the middle and lower classes, residential real estate investment has been the single largest contributor to net worth expansion of any household investment asset class.

U.S. homeownership rate post the peak seen in 2004 has fallen to a near 19-year low.

Current Employment Statistics (CES)

Employment data is based on a survey of 300,000 establishments across 600 industries, which account for approximately one-third of all payroll employees. Industries include retail trade, manufacturing and construction. CES provides details on numbers of hours worked and earnings of all surveyed across the nation.  These numbers are almost always suspect or flawed.

The "employed" are defined as all full- and part-time workers and temporary and intermittent employees who received pay for the cited period. It includes those on paid vacation or sick leave, and excludes business proprietors, self-employed, unpaid family members and volunteers.

Why is it important?
This is the earliest indicator of economic trends released each month. Employment rates indicate the well-being of the economy and labor force. Changes in wages point to earnings trends and related labor costs. Economists focus on the monthly change in total non-farm payrolls and in which sectors jobs were gained or lost.

Interesting trends can also be derived from the payroll data, such as the average number of hours per week worked and the average hourly earnings. This data gives an indication of how tight the labor market is—tight labor markets can translate into wage inflation.

Where does the data come from?
The U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics releases the data monthly, usually on the first Friday following the reference month, but always within the first 10 days after month-end.

Where to find on-line:
www.bls.gov/ces/home.htm

What is it? CES provides comprehensive data on national employment, unemployment and wages and earnings data across all non-agriculture industries, including all civilian government workers. Information is disseminated in many different ways-for example, employment/unemployment rates among men and women, varied ethnic groups and teens.

Retail Trade Sales and Food Services Sales

The data is based on a random sampling of 5,000 retail and food service firms. Figures are broken out to both include and exclude sales of automobiles. Sales are weighted and benchmarked to represent the nation's three million retail and food services firms.

Why is it important?
The numbers measure consumers' personal consumption across retail industries and track growth or deceleration of personal consumption spending, which makes up approximately two-thirds of the annual U.S. GDP. Analysts use the data to help track consumer spending trends and forecast the direction and magnitude of future spending. Automobile sales are separated from the data because of their volatility, which can sometimes obscure the underlying pattern of spending.

Where does it come from?
The U.S. Department of Commerce's U.S. Census Bureau releases the data monthly, during the second week of each month.

Manufacturing and Trade Inventories and Sales

Why is it important?
This data set is the primary source of information on the state of business inventories and business sales. Inventory rates often provide clues about the growth or contraction of the economy. A growth in business inventories may mean sales are slow and the economy's rate of growth is also slowing. If sales are slowing, businesses may be forced to cut production of goods, and that can eventually translate into inventory reductions.

Where does the data come from?
The U.S. Department of Commerce's U.S. Census Bureau releases the data monthly, approximately six weeks after the end of the subject month.

There are many other tools and reporting agencies that investors and economists use for their analysis.  Personally, I enjoy ShadowStats.com  [they offer a free and paid version].  One easy way to measure our fiscal health is to look at the earnings statements of WalMart.  Recent reports and statements indicate consumer buying patterns are heavily dependent on government benefits [food stamps, Social Security checks, etc.]

Most households simply look at how much their grocery and gas bill was that week and they know the cost of living is going up and up!

In the end, political greed, kicking the can down the street, short sighted solutions and a self destructive nature are the usual causes of societal collapse.  Many believe that is the path our nation is on.  What do you think?

My bank lets me send a text message and it'll text back with my balance. It's a cool feature but I didn't think the LOL was necessary.
