A Digest of Urban
Survival Resources
You’ve got
2 hours until disaster strikes. Are you prepared?
If you’ve watched any apocalyptic movie ever[or the evening news
this week regarding the storms approaching our east coast, you’re familiar with
the grocery store scene. You know which one I’m talking about. Anxious dad
rushes aisle by aisle gathering water and canned food for his family while
everyone around him gradually turns from innocent customer to aggressive
looter.
In this scenario, shelves are emptied quickly, and the store turns
into a war zone. In the next scene, dad finds a store that has managed to keep
control of their stock but has become absurdly greedy, inflating prices and
heartlessly bartering family heirlooms in place of the now useless cash...
What is the most important survival item? I regularly see this question on forums and social media sites,
both in text and meme form. One of the more common answers is: knowledge and/or
your brain. This answer annoys me because it feels like a cop-out. Obviously,
you need knowledge and skills to make it through a survival scenario. Which is
why "a survival guide" is also a cop-out.
The real
question is: If you could only have one survival item (other than knowledge),
which one would you choose? One of the most common answers is: a good knife. I
tend to agree, but there are other good answers such as: axe, gun, rope, tarp,
matches, multitool, metal pot, sleeping bag, water purifier, etc. My favorite
answer comes from Ray Mears, who suggested a satellite phone.
Anyway, when
I came across this video by Sensible Prepper, I was expecting him to talk about
one of the items I mentioned above. Instead, he talked about something I didn't
expect. But when you think about it, it makes perfect sense...
The
price of copper often gives us a clear indication of where the economy is
heading, and it is now down 13 percent over the last six months.
When
it looks like an economic crisis is coming, investors often flock to precious
metals. So it is very interesting to note that the price of gold is
up more than 20 percent since May.

Simple Faraday Cage for EMP Survival
One of the more serious risks we face is an EMP. Learn how
to build a simple Faraday cage and also what to store inside it.
Look at “Megacities: Urban Future, the Emerging
Complexity,” a Pentagon training video created by the Army
for U.S. Special Operations Command.
The training video is only five minutes long, but it says a lot about the government’s mindset, the way its views the citizenry, and the so-called “problems” that the government must be prepared to address in the near future through the use of martial law.

On June 3rd, 2019, KeyBank of Cleveland, Ohio, sent out a letter to all of their customers entitled: “Important Change Of Terms For KeyBank Safe Deposit Box Clients”. In it, they outlined the following four changes:
Important Change of Terms:
- The Bank limited the aggregate
value of each box, as well as their maximum liability to $25,000.
By starting with this point, it would lead one to believe that
the letter was primarily addressing an insurance issue, but not so. The second
point completely changed directions.
- “You can no longer store gold
bullion or non-collectible domestic or foreign currency in your box.”
Why in the world is it their business to tell you that you can’t
store perfectly legal cash and gold in your safe deposit box? It clearly is not
an insurance issue, since point #1 was to deny liability for any value over
$25,000. It’s up to the customer to secure or not secure separate insurance for
their valuables. Without question the bank is targeting cash and gold bullion
specifically.
- KeyBank has the right to drill
and/or enter your box “to ensure your box and everything inside is kept
secure.”
- “The Bank has the right to move
boxes and/or contents to a new location without any liability...”
These are profoundly intrusive, restrictive, and outrageous
changes to the privacy of safe deposit boxes. The question that we must ask
ourselves is why? And why now? Keep in mind that KeyBank is a very large bank:
- $138 Billion in Assets
- Over 1100 Branches
- Located in 15 States
- Well over 18,000 Employees
Here are my
ideas for new bill [s] to improve government…
>Since term limits never
seems to gain any traction perhaps we should entertain the idea of zero pay for
elected officials after their third term in office…give them their office,
expenses, health insurance while in office and a living allowance only=much
like our Founding Fathers and see how many decide to remain in office.
>Perhaps
we need to resurrect a new version of ‘war’ bonds, perhaps calling them
“government bailout bonds” to help pay off our national debt and/or to help pay
for our massive deficits and proposed new spending projects since fewer foreign
nations are buying our debt!
>An idea I've suggested before: Eliminate ALL
city/state & Federal taxes on the 1st $25K of income for all people. 41% of
citizens pay no Federal tax, many city/state taxes are killers for many. Tax
laws that encourage more US manufacturing/jobs & elimination of red tape
would help too.

Paracord is both lightweight and strong. It weighs less and takes up less room than heavy-duty
ropes, and can be woven together to create a stronger rope that is rot proof
and sturdy. When the inner cords are taken apart, its uses multiply. Paracord
has a bearing weight of 550 pounds. It was designed to stretch under a load and
will stretch over time. There are many uses for this “survival rope,” but here
are the ten most practical ways to use your paracord in the wilderness.
Rosefield is a classic traditional cabin, which can be built for less than $6,000. The cabin is open plan, which has the advantage of making it far easier, cheaper and quicker to build than more intricate cabins with separate rooms. This particular plan also includes a detailed cabin assembly diagram and step-by-step instructions which includes a foundation guide. [282sf’]
