When I was a child, I remember frequent black outs. Sometimes they lasted only a few hours; sometimes a day or so. I don't remember feeling scared or deprived as we didn't have a lot of electrical products - just the usual hand-held mixer, toaster, coffee maker, a radio.

What I do remember though was our gas stove/oven. We appeared to be the only family in the neighborhood that had hot meals whenever the electricity went out. Light the stove with a match and dinner is cooking. Can't happen now days.

I checked out gas stoves at an appliance store and, unfortunately, they need electricity to light the oven or the burners.

So what will we do when we have a power outage now? What if we have a REAL grid down situation lasting weeks, or months, or a year or so? How will we light up the dark? How will we cook hot meals? How will we keep warm in the winter?

We have all heard and read a lot lately about our fragile grid system. I read Ted Koppel's book: Lights Out: A Nation Unprepared, Surviving the Aftermath. We, as a country are NOT prepared. Koppel tells us that a cyber attack is not only possible, but very probable — as well as other possible long term disasters.

Koppel says that tens of millions of people over several states would be affected. For anyone without access to a generator, it would mean no running water, no refrigeration or light. Food and medical supplies would quickly be used up. Forget banks and ATMS functioning. Looting would be widespread. And law and order — nonexistent. It isn’t just a scenario. An attack on just one of our country's three electric power grids could cripple much of our infrastructure — and in the age of cyber warfare, a laptop has become the only necessary weapon.

So my husband and I began asking ourselves questions, such as:

  • What appliances did we need/want to be able to use? (Must have or mostly want?)
  • What did we want that was both practical and affordable?
  • What will we have to live without?
  • What could we buy that was both practical and
  • Did we really need electricity if the grid went down for an extended period of time?
  • What criteria for a back-up generator was most important to us?

The purpose of this project was to prepare ourselves to survive without electricity for an extended time, maybe as much as a year. We invested approximately 80 hours of work doing research for this project.

What electrical appliances were essential for us? [...]

NOTE:  Although we have several gas model generators [5,000 Watt-more than enough to power our cabin & home] we’ve attempted to find contractors in MI to create a more off-grid solar system for ourselves.  It has been an exercise in frustration as there are few contractors of such & the two we did contact for estimates-NEVER got back to us!

I’ve grown to trust the 4Patriots firm and have purchased a lot of their freeze-dried food stocks and have resold their portable solar chargers for the past year…I am giving serious consideration to purchasing the following unit.  They also offer a purchase plan.

The NEW Patriot Power Generator 1800 gives you 28% more storage capacity and 52% more peak power than the best-selling 1500 model. So, you get more power for longer… charge faster than before… and can run more devices than ever. And it charges faster than ever. You get all the features that made this a best-seller… plus MORE peak power and storage!

The Patriot Power Generator package is $1997 and includes FREE shipping.  For more information or to place an order, please visit our sales page shown here https://ppg.dev.4patriots.net/index.php

Have a Wonderful New Year’s Celebration!

PARTING THOUGHTS, Resources

I've met quite a few preppers who regularly purchase all sorts of survival items, but who never actually make their own survival items (you know who you are). There are many reasons why this is a huge mistake, but let's focus on two in particular:

First of all, you're wasting money if you're buying things that are cheaper to make at home. And second, during a long-term disaster where grocery store shelves are all empty, you might be forced to make your own stuff. So why not go ahead and learn how?

Below you'll find a list of 25 survival items that are fairly easy to make. For each one, I included a link to a tutorial that will walk you through it. So next time you’re bored, try making one of these, and don't forget to leave a comment letting me know how it went...

We Live in a World of Constant Media Manipulation

We Live in a World of Constant Media Manipulation

In a world without constant manipulation and disinformation most economic and geopolitical events would happen spontaneously and randomly. Things would be more unexpected, but at least they would make life fascinating and interesting. Unfortunately, this is not the world we live in. Our world is highly micro-managed by global elites with a rather broad if not clichéd agenda. This makes most events highly predictable, as each event services a singular end game.

The only aspect of our system that is not predictable is timing. In the liberty movement we can predict with relative certainty future trends and where they are headed, but one thing we have to consider is that the more effective we are at exposing the plans of the globalists the more they will attempt to either stall or expedite the timing of their agenda in the hopes of encouraging doubt and uncertainty.

We all know that the US has become a giant surveillance state. Anyone who thinks otherwise is either deliberately ignorant or is named Dick Cheney.

Edward Snowden famously revealed the government’s massive efforts to spy on its own citizens. But even prior to that (and many times since) there have been numerous reports describing government surveillance programs.

FCC regulations, for example, require telecommunication companies to retain data on customers such as “the name, address, and telephone number of the caller, telephone number called, date, time and length of the call.”

This is referred to as “metadata” and must be stored by telecom companies for at least 18 months.

In 2015, the USA Freedom Act allegedly reformed the way the government could access your metadata. But nothing really changed.

Instead of collecting and storing it in a government database, the government simply demands the data from AT&T and Verizon.

In theory the government has to seek approval from secret “FISA” courts to obtain access to your data (FISA stands for Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act).

But the FISA courts have become mere rubber stamps. According to the Justice Department’s own disclosures, for example, the FISA courts only rejected ONE wiretap application out of more than 1,000 that were submitted last year.

In other words, FISA courts approved more than 99.9% of wiretap requests. So forgive me if I’m a bit skeptical about this system of ‘checks and balances’.

Two years ago, Congress reauthorized the FISA court for another 5 years, and one of the key sponsors of that bill was Congressman Devin Nunes.

In doing so, Rep. Nunes put his name up in neon lights as the number one fan of intrusive surveillance.

Ironically, that intrusive government surveillance was quickly turned against him.

Rep. Nunes’ name comes up rather frequently in the impeachment inquiry report that was just released by the House Intelligence Committee.

The report cites phone records between Nunes and other prominent targets of the probe:

“Phone records also show contacts on April 10 between Mr. Giuliani and Rep. Nunes, consisting of three short calls in rapid succession, followed by a text message, and ending with a nearly three minute call.”

Nunes was in contact with many of the characters involved in the whole Ukraine aid scandal, around the time it was all going down.

And how did the House Intelligence Committee get all those phone and text records? Because Nunes championed the government’s authority to spy on everyone’s metadata. Including his own.

Now Nunes’s metadata is being used against him to suggest that he was involved in criminal misconduct.

The even more ironic part of this story is that Nunes plans on suing AT&T, Verizon, and House Democrats for turning over his call records to Congressional investigators.

I’d love to see that argument in court. “Your honor, I am the person who championed the surveillance on Americans’ metadata… but it’s not fair that my own law can be used against me.”

Sorry Devin. These records and investigatory powers have been used exactly as intended. It’s just that you’re now on the receiving end.

That’s the funny thing about government powers. Even if you trust the people currently in charge-- just give it a few years for the cast of characters to change.

Surveillance that was once used only on suspected spies and terrorists has quickly become a tool against political rivals and journalists.

And these intrusive powers are especially concerning given the crop of rising Bolshevik political superstars.

As the Austrian economist Ludwig von Mises said, “The worst thing that can happen to a socialist is to have his country ruled by socialists who are not his friends.”

USEFUL STUFF…

It's funny how cooking without power is regarded as a survival skill when for thousands of years, it was the only way to cook. Not long ago, there was no such thing as toasters, microwaves, and electric ovens, yet people still managed to cook big, delicious meals for their families.

If they could do it, so can you! There's no reason to be intimidated by the prospect of cooking without electric appliances. It's easier than you think.

Here's what we'll cover in this article: 12 Ways To Cook Without Power, 9 Off-Grid Cooking Tips, and 17 Handy Tools For Cooking Without Power...

Here are 12 ways you can save.

GUEST SHOT...

“Trust in God and keep your powder dry.”

It’s one of my favorite quotes because we should all have faith in God, while at the same time, being prepared for whatever life throws our way.

But, ever since Trump got elected, I’ve seen fewer and fewer people heeding the second part of Cromwell’s advice – “keeping your powder dry.”

I’ve heard folks say...

“I don’t need to prepare. Trump isn’t going to come after my guns, I’ve got nothing to worry about. And Trump is great with the economy too.”

But, what happens when the unthinkable occurs and Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders becomes president?

Prices of guns are going to skyrocket…

Ammo prices are going to skyrocket…

The economy will take a dive…

And people will be scurrying to stock up on supplies – it will look like the entrance to Walmart on Black Friday.

I know the chances of the crazy socialists getting elected are slim (or at least I hope they are), but anything is possible and now is the time to “keep your powder dry.”

Just the other day, I was talking to a semi-friend (acquaintance) about my stockpile of ammo, which is at least 10,000 rounds per caliber.

Like many unprepared people with the wrong mindset, he said, “why do you need that much ammo, what a waste of money.”

Well, I train with it.

I protect my family with it.

It’s insurance.

And, it’s a hedge against inflation.

If a socialist gets elected president, I won’t have to run out and stock up on ammo since I’ve always got plenty at home.

It’s pretty much like the “Tortoise and the Hare” story.

I’m always “slow and steady” being prepared so that I don’t have to freak out when a crisis occurs whether it’s a natural crisis or political crisis.

So, even though the next election seems far off, what should you be doing in the coming weeks to “keep your powder dry” in the event the unfathomable happens?

(This book covers one of the best guns for home defense should a Dem get elected and try to make it illegal.)

Stay safe,

Jason Hanson

Destruction Of The Family: The U.S. Has The Highest Rate Of Children Living With A Single Parent

Poor Man Survival

Self Reliance tools for independent minded people…

ISSN 2161-5543

A Digest of Urban Survival Resources

For decades, the traditional family unit has been under assault in America, and the consequences have been absolutely catastrophic.  Today, the marriage rate has dropped to levels that we have never seen before, we continue to have one of the highest divorce rates in the entire world, and more couples than ever are choosing not to get married at all.  As a result, the number of single parents has been steadily rising, and at this point the United States actually has the highest rate of children living with a single parent of any country on the entire planet.  The following comes from Pew Research

For decades, the share of U.S. children living with a single parent has been rising, accompanied by a decline in marriage rates and a rise in births outside of marriage. A new Pew Research Center study of 130 countries and territories shows that the U.S. has the world’s highest rate of children living in single-parent households.

Almost a quarter of U.S. children under the age of 18 live with one parent and no other adults (23%), more than three times the share of children around the world who do so (7%).

You would think that with how rapidly modern notions of “morality” are spreading around the globe that someone out there would be worse than us, but sadly we are dead last on the list.

In fact, our rate is more than four times higher than India and more than seven times higher than China

In comparison, 3% of children in China, 4% of children in Nigeria and 5% of children in India live in single-parent households. In neighboring Canada, the share is 15%.

Nothing says poverty like multi-generations welfare programs!  Think about this when it comes to 'what ever happened to being self sufficient' in America

The real goal in this nation should be to make folks more self sufficient and less dependent.

PARTING THOUGHTS, Resources

In a speech to the American Enterprise Institute in October, former governor and U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley put her finger on the greater issue, saying in part, “President Trump is a disruptor. That makes some people very happy, and it makes some people very mad. ... When I was in the administration, I served alongside colleagues who believed the best thing to do for America was to undermine and obstruct the president. Some wrote about it anonymously in The New York Times. Others just did it. They sincerely believed they were doing the right thing. I sincerely believed they weren’t. ... No policy disagreement with him ... justifies undermining the lawful authority that is vested in his office by the Constitution.”

Merry Christmas to All

When you're making a survival kit or bug out bag, it's best to pack items that have multiple uses. This way you'll be prepared for all types of situations without taking up more space than necessary. There are dozens of versatile items, but today I want to talk about chap stick. Here are 20 survival uses for it.

 1. Moisten Chapped Lips - Well, duh! But I had to include this lest someone leave a smartass comment chiding me for leaving it out. You know who you are.

 2. Moisten Chapped Hands and Scrapes - This helps them heal faster and keeps them protected from the elements...

These timeless ideas still have value today.

National Taxpayers Union (NTU) has released the congressional scorecard for the first session of the 115th Congress, and it's good news for taxpayers: more pro-taxpayer votes were taken and passed in 2017 than in other recent years, and the number of "Taxpayers' Friend" awards the organization issues for top-scoring lawmakers out has skyrocketed over 2016 results. While far too many members of Congress are still failing to consistently stand up for the best interests of taxpayers, 2017 was still an important year of progress on many fiscal policy issues.
