How Fiat Money Will Destroy America

We’ve warned readers prepare for what’s about to hit America.

Riots, flash-crashes, more drastic central bank intervention... it’s all in the cards…along with Democrat monstrous deficit spending ehich is always tasty to the public in the SHORT Run but as Margaret Thatcher wanred: Socialism is fine until you run out of other people’s money.

Economist Saifedean Ammous wrote the best bitcoin book out there, called The Bitcoin Standard. And it’s not even about bitcoin.

The vast majority of the book is about the dastardly effects of unsound money.

“Human civilization,” he writes, “flourished in times and places where sound money was widely adopted, while unsound money all too frequently coincided with civilizational decline and societal collapse.”

Rome, Constantinople, Florence, Venice… the story is the same. If history is any guide, a sound monetary standard is a necessary prereq for human flourishing, says Ammous, “without which society stands on the precipice of barbarism and destruction.”

Moreover, history reveals it’s impossible to protect yourself from the consequences of others holding money that’s harder than your money.

In the end, the hardest money wins.

“It is ironic, and very telling,” he points out, “that in the era of government money, governments themselves own far more gold in their official reserves than they did under the international gold standard of 1871–1914”

While governments hold hard money, good at maintaining its value, the masses hold fiat, poor at maintaining its value.

Money informs psychology. Its architecture incentivizes behaviors, often subliminally, right below the curtain of consciousness.

“The better the money is at holding its value,” says Saifedean, “the more it incentivizes people to delay consumption and instead dedicate resources for production in the future, leading to capital accumulation and improvement of living standards”

Fiat money, on the other hand, does the opposite. It incentivizes people into short-termism, planned obsolescence, disposability, and instant gratification. Sound money makes for good ancestors. Unsound money makes for bad ancestors who sell out future generations for short-term gains.

It destroys culture and communities. It creates the cutthroat environment many people attribute to being an inherent feature of capitalism. It infects everything with its fakeness. It creates fake societies, fake ideas, and fake people.

Worse? It concentrates power in the last place you would want power to be.

How Fiat Destroys Culture

By Stephan Livera

Can the type of money change the culture of a society? This might seem like an absurd proposition, but it is supported by the arguments of proponents of the Austrian school of economics.

First, let’s contextualize the importance of sound money as opposed to fiat money. Mises notes in The Theory of Money and Credit: “It is impossible to grasp the meaning of the idea of sound money if one does not realize that it was devised as an instrument for the protection of civil liberties against despotic inroads on the part of governments.“

Fiat money has never arisen through purely voluntary market actions. It has always been coercively imposed via interventions such as legal tender laws, capital gains tax laws, central banking, laws permitting fractional reserve banking, government bailout guarantees, etc. This causes degeneration in the quality of money used by society. But are there cultural consequences of this?

To see the cultural consequences, we must first understand the pivotal role money and prices play in coordinating production across society. Entrepreneurs must act under uncertainty to gather the required resources to offer their goods and services. And yet money, their unit of account, for measuring profit and loss, is being manipulated by the government. Money is created as new loans are issued by commercial and retail banks, and the first recipients of that money benefit at the expense of late recipients.

Using money with continual inflation encourages short-termism and haste. We live more like animals in the wild. Animals in the wild care mostly about their next meal, rather than thinking, planning, and building for the long term as humans can do when we’re at our best.

Consider the counterfactual world of living under sound money, chosen by the market. In this world, how does the state fund large programs? It must openly tax citizens, and for this, politicians pay a high price in lost popularity and risk losing their next election. Instead of explicit taxation, politicians inside the government will prefer to use more hidden forms of funding for their programs. In order to do this, they must first remove the check of sound money.

Going one step further, the creation and enforcement of fiat money enables larger and more centralized government. Large government programs become possible that were not possible or sustainable under a market-chosen, sound money standard.

Consider the impact of profligate spending under a market-chosen monetary standard. In the past, this meant that governments spending big and living large were subject to net gold outflows to other countries.

While many like to think of government programs and welfare statism as a "safety net" for society, consider that these programs fundamentally drive the wrong behaviors. Where historically, non-government-based mutual-aid societies promoted a culture of self-reliance and thrift, government welfare states promote the opposite, the end result being that government programs remove the safeguards that a market society would have. In this way, fiat money frees people from the prior "restraints" of polite society, with expectations for productive and civil behavior broken.

Freed of prior constraints that families, religion, and communities used to impose, people often turn to more short-term gratification. They may engage in more reckless behavior that previously would have had economic consequences, such as the cost of raising children. Fiat inflation forces people to invest in just about anything rather than save in fiat cash, driving more money and debt as leverage through the financial services sector than otherwise would be the case.

With cheap fiat debt, governments may more cheaply engage in warfare or sustain warfare for longer than they otherwise could have. Cheap fiat debt essentially provides the government with command over more of society’s resources than it otherwise would have had.

For readers interested in learning more, I highly recommend reading Jörg Guido Hülsmann’s The Ethics of Money Production, and watching his lecture here on the Mises Institute YouTube channel.

How could this situation be rectified? If the world were to transition back to market-chosen money, such as gold or bitcoin, we would see the discipline of the free market reassert itself. Until then, let’s recognize the ways that society and culture have been greatly influenced by government fiat money.

Wokeness=Asleep at the wheel…Don’t be SUCKERED!

If you've been prepping for more than, say, a day, you know to stockpile things like food, water, and first aid supplies. That's the easy to remember stuff, right? We all know we'll need to eat and stay hydrated.

However, there are a number of things many preppers overlook in their planning. Things that will certainly come into play at some point during any sort of long-term event.

1. Heirloom Seeds - For the uninitiated, heirloom seeds are ones that are a true strain. Meaning, if you grow a watermelon from an heirloom seed, the seeds found in the ripe melon can be planted the next season and will, theoretically at least, grow just fine.

It’s clear: Amerika is under attack from within

While few want to admit it... what’s happening in our country right now points toward the possibility of a very bleak future... a future filled with bloodshed and chaos and darkness under Communist domination.

And as you know, we’ve provided people just like you with information and tools to get prepared for the worst-case scenarios we’re facing.

The U.S. as a nation has only been "invaded" a handful of times in its nearly 250-year history. Most of these incidents occurred during the Mexican border wars, and once during WWII when the Japanese tried to gain a foothold in Alaska (a bloody incident rarely discussed by mainstream historians). In our modern era, the notion of a massive invasion has persisted even though strategically it would be nearly impossible for any overseas enemy to implement. Most of the fears surrounding a Cold War attack on America were unfounded, and as much as I love the movie Red Dawn, communists usually invade countries from within, not from without.

The reasons for the difficulty of attacking the U.S. are rather simple — America is geographically isolated by two oceans and our direct neighbors are allies. When people get frantic about an invasion from a country like China, they reveal that they do not understand basic military tactics.

China, as an example, has its own geographical weaknesses to deal with, including the fact that multiple nations close to its borders are not its allies. China would have to consolidate power over most of Southeast Asia and perhaps Australia before they could turn their attention to the U.S. Beyond that, China has a navy made up mostly of smaller vessels, not large ships needed for an amphibious invasion across the Pacific.

China does have nuclear weapons, but its arsenal is dwarfed by other nations including the U.S. Any attempt at a nuclear attack would mean China would be wiped off the face of the Earth. Even with some kind of alliance with Russia or a host of other nations, the result would still be the same.

This does not mean a foreign invasion of the U.S. is not possible, but there are a very specific set of circumstances that would have to take place, and sadly some of these circumstances have already been met. The following is my theory on how a true military invasion of America could be achieved...

Economic and social breakdown

The very first condition that would have to be met before there could be a foreign invasion of the U.S. is a full spectrum crash of our economy as well as mass civil unrest. If our currency system is degraded to the point that maintaining our military becomes difficult, then larger defensive campaigns could not happen. Naval operations in particular are extremely expensive, and keep in mind that soldiers work for pay

Hyperinflated dollars are not going to entice the average person to join up and potentially risk their lives. And, if there is a societal breakdown then most fighting men will want to stay home to protect their families. An economic crash could make a wider defense of America's border untenable. At the very least, our ability to project military power outside of the U.S. would be degraded, leaving countries like China free to invade their neighbors.

Another factor to consider is that the collapse of the U.S. could be used as a perfect excuse for foreign invasion on the world stage. Let me explain...

Balkanization of the U.S.

As I have outlined in many past articles, this is already happening. The U.S. is swiftly dividing according to political and social principles, and this division is being driven mostly by globalists and leftists. This is not to say that balkanization was the original plan of the globalists, at least not to the extent that is taking place today. I suspect they intended for the covid pandemic and the rise of cultural Marxism to overwhelm conservatives and drive us into fear and hiding. However, conservatives have rallied and are now taking back our freedoms state by state.

An internal ideological war is now forming: The political left believes in collectivism, control, censorship and cancel culture. They believe in using fear and intimidation in order to get what they want. Conservatives and most moderates just want to be free to live their lives and to speak their minds when necessary. The two sides cannot live together within the same space. Our differences are irreconcilable. We must separate or a shooting war will erupt (one will probably erupt anyway).

As the economic crisis continues to expand in the U.S., balkanization will become the primary solution. States run by leftists are a drag on the nation's finances as their debts grow far beyond conservative-run states. The federal government under Biden will turn to increased spending and taxation as a means to slow the collapse, but this will only hasten the death of the dollar and fuel more price inflation. Red states and conservative counties are going to have to break away at some point if they want to survive the crash. They will have to establish their own separate monetary and economic systems in order to insulate themselves from the effects of the inevitable supply chain crash as well as hyperinflation. They will also defy any attempts at enforcing unconstitutional vaccine passports.

The U.S. would basically become two different nations ideologically and economically.

At this point, the federal government and the leftists will attempt to use economic consequences to push red states back into the fold. They will try to withhold federal funds and stimulus dollars to conservative-run regions while showering loyal blue states with helicopter money. When this does not work, they will try to use military force.

I believe a large portion of the military and National Guard will not comply with this effort. Being that the U.S. military is majority conservative, it is more likely that they will turn on the Biden Administration and support the red states. Conservatives would easily stop leftist attacks and a move to consolidate the country would be the next logical step. This is where things get ugly.

With the U.S. in a state of civil war, globalists will proclaim that a "multilateral intervention" is needed to stop the chaos. They will also continue to claim that conservatives are "violent racist nationalist fascist terrorists blah blah blah, etc., etc., and that the U.S. and its nuclear arsenal cannot be allowed to fall into the hands of "extremists." The U.N. will be called upon to step in as "peacekeepers."

Multinational "peacekeeping" force

Even with multiple nations allied to invade the U.S., and even with the U.S. in economic disarray, the invasion would be incredibly complex and the chances of failure would be high. The only way for U.N. forces to gain a large foothold would be with the support of a neighboring country such as Canada, as well as the support of blue states with large coastal ports like California, Washington and New York. In other words, they would need blue states to help them bring in troops and provide safe port for landings.

The peacekeeping mission would be the propaganda rationale that is fed to the public as far as why the U.N. needs to be in the U.S. at all. They will paint conservative freedom fighters as the biggest monsters since the Third Reich, and paint leftists as innocent victims that are being surrounded and destroyed. They will claim that the rest of the world "will be next" if conservatives are allowed to take control of the nation and take over the massive arsenal of U.S. nukes.

In secret, the U.N. will be offering U.S. resources and land as payment to any nation that contributes military assets to the invasion. They will focus in particular on nations like China that already have an innate hatred of the American people and the concept of individual freedom, and that have a desperate need to expand. Like the Hessian mercenaries used by the British during the Revolutionary War, the U.N. will need troops with a proclivity for brutality and little to no empathy or regard for Americans.

Reign of terror

Regular civilians and non-combatants would deal with the brunt of the violence in places where the U.N. establishes a foothold. They may leave blue states' residents alone as part of the agreement, or they may not. I would not be surprised if the leftists who cheer on the U.N. end up being abused by U.N. troops as thanks.

The U.N.'s focus would be on isolating freedom fighters from the rest of the American population so that recruitment is difficult and blending in becomes untenable. This would require that civilians be interned, perhaps into larger cities with biometric surveillance. The message would be that the despair of the public is the fault of the rebellion. They would tell people that the pain will end when the rebellion is defeated; the goal will be to get the public to turn on their ideals and to turn on freedom fighters.

The rebellion

As always, the first mission of any rebellion is to dispel lies and propaganda. This requires that they are able to spread facts, evidence and information freely. For now, this means discussing the above potential scenario in the alternative media and warning people ahead of time how things might play out if we do not remain vigilant. We need to ensure that people are made aware of the globalists so that they do not welcome them with open arms as saviors during a crisis.

But what if internet communications are restricted or shut down?

The best way to spread information during a domestic collapse and conflict would be through Ham radio as well as old-school printing. Fliers spread everywhere conveying the true intentions of the conservative insurgency would be vital to the effort. Regular transmissions by HF ham would become the new alternative media. There is very little that any government could do to stop this.

Unfortunately, balkanization might help the narrative case for U.N. intervention within the U.S., but it is also a necessary step toward preventing further loss of freedoms. It's a bit of a Catch-22. However, balkanization will have to be treated as a temporary solution, because leftists and the federal government will try to dismantle red states that separate. And as soon as blue states declare that they will support foreign intervention, conservatives would have to take away their ability to render aid to the enemy. This means going on the offensive.

Any campaign to keep our freedoms in the U.S. would be arduous, and the fight against an international force would take many years to win. I often study the Finish 'Winter War' against the massive communist invasion in 1939 as a model for rebellion, except in the case of a U.S. insurgency I would multiply the threat and the time needed to fight back by a factor of 10. Winning would mean wearing the invaders down and disrupting their logistics — we would have to make life so miserable for them and the cost of occupation so high that they would be desperate to leave. Remove all incentives for invasion and the invasion will eventually end.

To summarize, a foreign campaign against the U.S. would require help from the inside (probably from blue state leftists). It would require an economic crisis. It would require the resounding demonization of conservative freedom fighters. It would require extremely brutal and ugly tactics well outside the Geneva Conventions. And it would require a vast logistical supply that would have to somehow be kept safe from attack. A U.N.-led invasion might even seem at first to be successful, but over time it would fail as conservatives hold out and continue to fight the long game.

The danger would be if the enemy is able to wear down the rebellion, rather than the rebellion wearing down the enemy. Converting the public to their side and establishing a perpetual supply chain for their forces would be their biggest priorities. Their intent will be to take permanent hold of U.S. territory and make people believe that their victory is imminent. If the rebels can prove them wrong over and over again, then the public will be less likely to take their side. But, if the enemy is able to achieve multiple tangible victories without much resistance, then many average people will simply jump to support them as a means of survival.

I'm sure this all sounds like an inconsequential theory, but look at the world today; there have been events recently which very few people thought possible only a couple of years ago. And things are not necessarily going back to normal. It seems to me that the U.S. in particular is a top target for the globalists, in that we are one of the few places left on the planet where the Reset agenda has failed to take hold completely. If they cannot find a way to force the Reset mandates in all U.S. states, then they will inevitably turn to military options. It is only logical that liberty-minded people prepare for this eventuality.

To truth and knowledge,

Brandon Smith

NOTE:

America is on a collision course with itself, and nothing can stop what's coming in terms of catastrophic ramifications in the food supply, currency collapse, economic collapse, social collapse and the collapse of the rule of law (which is already well under way).

The America we once knew is never coming back. There will never be a "return to normal." Only collapse, a thinning out of the herd, and then on the other side, recovery and rebuilding among the survivors.

Master’s Programs Are Breeding Ground for Critical Race Theory, Teacher Says

SIDEBAR

BAN TEACHING THE MARXIST CRITICAL RACE THEORY FROM OUR SCHOOLS!

They are lying when they claim, "It's only basic diversity training."

Let's review some basic facts of CRT.

  • All critical theories, including CRT, are a neo-Marxist critique of capitalism and free society based on Marxist-Maoism.
  • CRT advocates admit it's to transform society.
  • CRT judges all social interactions through a racial lens and in education it places racial guilt on kids by separating them between oppressor and oppressed.

·         Critical race theory claims that one’s race alone defines them and is their most important characteristic. Furthermore, critical race theory seeks to divide children by race and attempts to make them feel responsible and guilty of atrocities that they did not commit. So far, seven states have taken action to ban the teaching of critical race theory: Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Montana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.

While several states have banned teaching racial essentialism and collective guilt on kids in education, you can help me empower parents by helping to teach kids about individualism, free markets, and liberty…

USEFUL STUFF…

Making your own meat powder is a great way to add shelf-stable meat to your pantry. Meat powder can add a dash of protein to any meal and easily dissolve into soups and stews when you are out of fresh meat.

What I love about making your own meat powder is that you can make sure that you like all of the ingredients. There are no fillers or ingredients that are hard to pronounce because you can mix and match items in your kitchen that you and your family prefer.

While meat powder may not be the main part of your daily meals in your home today, it could be quite beneficial in an emergency situation when there is no meat supply. I also love that you can use those odd cuts of meat from animals that are hard to use...

LONG TERM TRENDS THAT SHOULD CONCERN ALL

LONG TERM TRENDS THAT SHOULD CONCERN ALL AMERICANS

Ignoring long-term problems can work for a while, but eventually they catch up with you.  Over the years, I have written many articles about alarming long-term trends in our society that desperately needed to be addressed.

[I’ve warned of the dangers of Artificial Intelligence, Government spying on its own citizens, the huge danger of Marxism taking over our nation, inflation and more.]

Of course the vast majority of those long-term trends never got much attention, because our political system tends to reward politicians that focus on short-term issues.  As a result, many of the long-term trends that I have written about previously have now gotten to a point where they have started to become very serious short-term problems.  In this article, I would like to share 9 examples of this with you.

#1 I have been warning about exploding debt levels for as long as I have been writing about the economy.  Most people know that the U.S. national debt has now crossed the 28 trillion dollar threshold, but hardly anyone is talking about the explosion of corporate debt that we have been witnessing in recent months.  According to the Federal Reserve, total corporate debt in the United States is now up to a whopping 11.2 trillion dollars

Before the pandemic, U.S. companies were borrowing heavily at low interest rates. When Covid-19 lockdowns triggered a recession, they didn’t pull back. They borrowed even more and soon paid even less.

After a brief spike, interest rates on corporate debt plummeted to their lowest level on record, bringing a surge in new bonds. Nonfinancial companies issued $1.7 trillion of bonds in the U.S. last year, nearly $600 billion more than the previous high, according to Dealogic. By the end of March, their total debt stood at $11.2 trillion, according to the Federal Reserve, about half the size of the U.S. economy.

#2 Needless to say, this level of corporate debt is not even close to sustainable, and we are starting to see a lot of prominent names go bankrupt.  In fact, one of the largest mall owners in the entire country officially filed for bankruptcy on Sunday

Washington Prime Group, a major mall owner of more than 100 locations across the United States, filed for bankruptcy, citing pandemic-related shutdowns.

The Columbus, Ohio-based company filed for Chapter 11 late Sunday, saying Covid-19 “created significant challenges” and that the move is “necessary.” Washington Prime secured $100 million in new funding to support its day-to-day operations so it can “continue in the ordinary course without interruption.”

#3 The standard of living in the United States has been going down for a very long time.  Here in 2021, inflation is growing at a much faster rate than wages are, and this is squeezing middle class families like never before.  One of the ways that families are dealing with this is by putting off major purchases, and that is one of the reasons why the average age of the vehicles on our roads has now reached an all-time record high

The average age of vehicles on U.S. roadways rose to a record 12.1 years last year, as lofty prices and improved quality prompt owners to hold on to their cars longer.

It was the first time the average vehicle age rose above 12 years, according to data released Monday by research firm IHS Markit. While the average vehicle age has risen steadily over the last 15 years, the trend accelerated during the coronavirus pandemic partly because of a drop in new-car sales, IHS said.

#4 America’s growing homelessness crisis has accelerated greatly during the pandemic, and the big cities in California are being hit the hardest.  At this point, it is really difficult to navigate through the streets of San Francisco without stumbling over a tent or stepping in human excrement

For a city as opulent as San Francisco, it’s long been jarring to see the extreme poverty of those experiencing homelessness on its streets. If you walk around downtown, tents, makeshift cardboard beds and human excrement can be seen littering the sidewalks. Impoverished people lie on the ground as a blur of highly paid professionals whiz by.

#5 The homelessness crisis is also one of the factors that is fueling the dramatic rise in crime rates that we have been seeing all over the nation.  Once upon a time, millions of eager tourists would flock to Venice Beach, but now the phrase “like hell went to hell” is being used to describe conditions at that once pristine tourist trap…

Year-to-date numbers show that robberies have nearly tripled since the same period last year. Homeless-related robberies are up 260 percent; homeless-related assaults with a deadly weapon is up 118 percent; property crimes and area burglaries are up 85 percent; and grand theft auto is up 74 percent.

According to Embrich, felony arrests are up 68 percent, while misdemeanor arrests have grown by 355 percent. But arrests aren’t enough: Suspects are often released back onto the streets within hours.

#6 The police are the ones that are supposed to protect us from crime and restore order when things get out of control, but now they are leaving public service in record numbers.  After being endlessly demonized by leftist activists and the mainstream media, police officers are either retiring or resigning at a staggering rate….

Police retirements have risen by 45 percent in the past year, with officers opting out of forces across the country amid Black Lives Matter demonstrations that fueled anti-cop rhetoric.

The alarming statistic was revealed by the Police Executive Research Forum on Sunday, with the organization also revealing that resignations rose by 18 percent during the same twelve month period.

#7 Have you noticed that many of our cities are becoming disgustingly filthy?  When I was growing up, I often heard the phrase “cleanliness is next to godliness”, but you never hear anyone use it anymore.  These days, filth and grime are everywhere, and that has resulted in widespread infestations.  Many of our cities now have massive problems with rats and bed bugs, but Chicago is the worst of them all

The Windy City is known for quite a few things: hot dogs, deep dish, baseball. But here’s one thing you probably don’t associate with Chicago: bed bugs. Turns out these tiny hitchhiking pests are quite fond of our city, according to the latest numbers available through Atlanta-based Orkin, a company that specializes in pest control services.

In fact, Chicago ranked no. 1 on the 2021 list, according to Orkin, reclaiming the top spot for the first time since 2017, when it slipped to no. 3, just behind Baltimore and Washington. For the sixth year in a row, Orkin also ranked Chicago the “rattiest” city in America.

#8 I have been writing about the drought in the western half of the country for years, but here in 2021 it is the worst we have ever seen.  As I write this article, an astounding 88 percent of the West is officially in a state of drought…

Lakes at historically low levels, unusually early forest fires, restrictions on water use and now a potentially record heat wave: even before summer’s start the US West is suffering the effects of chronic drought made worse by climate change.

Eighty-eight percent of the West was in a state of drought this week, including the entire states of California, Oregon, Utah and Nevada, according to official data.

#9 When drought gets bad enough, it leads to water shortages, and we will want to watch developments in California very closely.  Water supplies have gotten very tight throughout the state, and officials in Santa Clara County just officially declared “a water shortage emergency”

Santa Clara County is in extreme drought. We can’t afford to wait to act as our water supplies are being threatened locally and across California. We are in an emergency and Valley Water must do everything we can to protect our groundwater resources and ensure we can provide safe, clean water to Santa Clara County residents and businesses.

To better deal with these threats and the emergency they are causing, today my fellow Board Members and I unanimously declared a water shortage emergency condition in Santa Clara County. This declaration, which is among the strongest actions we can take under law, allows Valley Water to work with our retailers, cities and the county to implement regulations and restrictions on the delivery and consumption of water. We also are urging the County of Santa Clara to proclaim a local emergency and join us in underscoring the seriousness of the threats posed by the extreme drought.

Over the past few years, America has been hit by crisis after crisis, and many are yearning for a return to the good old days.  Unfortunately, that simply is not going to happen.

The United States is never going to be like it once was.  Too many things have changed, and our culture has been radically transformed over the past several decades.

Many of the items that I have shared in this article are simply symptoms of much broader cultural problems.  We are a deeply, deeply sick society, and it is getting worse with each passing day.
