What If Neighbors Come Begging for Food After SHTF

It’s no secret Bidenflation is robbing citizens and this holiday meal will drive that message home for many [if you get food stamps you can probably ignore this]…this will be the most expensive holiday meal on record!

If we are deep into some kind cataclysmic event and desperate people arrive at your door, what do you do? Your hard work, money, and family are all at play when people come a knockin! So, what is your gameplan?

The simple answer is to say, “NO!” and not let anyone into your home. The truth is that things are a little more complicated than that. Also, there might be some value in the people you bring on board. You are going to need some help to get through tough times.

Just look at any natural disaster to see proof of that. In this article, we are going to look at what you should do when neighbors keep knocking. There are some things you should already have done if you are going to deal with people at your front door...

USEFUL RESOURCES

If you'd like to avoid all of the tempting sales this weekend, here are some things you can do that can help you free up some extra cash for your holiday budget or simply improve your budget:

·         Put together a holiday budget: If you still need to plan your holiday expenditures, spend some time figuring out how much you have to spend and what you'll need to spend. Then figure out how you might cover the difference.

·         Sell some stuff: With so much shopping going on this week, why not post some things for sale on eBay or other selling sites and earn some of what everyone else is spending?

·         Start a side gig: An additional income stream can be a wise move right now, given the current economic climate. Spend the long weekend finally getting that side gig started, or search for a part-time job opportunity.

·         Do a mini pantry challenge: Clean out and organize your pantry, fridge and freezer and plan meals you can make with the ingredients and foods you have on hand. Avoid the grocery store for the next few weeks and use the extra cash for the holidays.

·         Shop for new auto insurance: Insurance companies might not offer Black Friday deals, but it doesn't mean you can't score some discounts. (You can get quotes here.) Even if you don't shop for new coverage, review your current coverage to ensure you're getting all of the discounts that apply to you.

13 Things You Can Scavenge From Cars After The SHTF

Cars are everywhere. If you're anywhere near a city when the SHTF, you'll come across thousands of them. And if the disaster is severe enough, many of these vehicles will be abandoned. Why does this matter? Because there are many survival items you can scavenge from abandoned vehicles.

Some people will object to this article, saying it's wrong to take what isn't yours. Normally I'd agree, but I believe morality varies depending on the circumstances. If you're in a situation where an apparently abandoned vehicle has items in it that you need to survive, then I would argue that you're morally obligated to take them. If not for yourself, then for your family.

Besides, you could find yourself in a scenario where your own car breaks down or is totaled, in which case you might want to make use of its parts. In case either of these things ever happens to you, here are 13 things you can scavenge from vehicles...

12 Energy-Saving Tips for Your Apartment

You don’t need to own your home to reduce your utility bills. We’ve put together a list of energy-saving tips to help apartment dwellers save.

DIY Cooking Spray

Since I cook and bake a lot, I was buying cooking spray frequently. Finally, I decided to make my own. I mix one cup of shortening, one cup of flour, and two tablespoons of vegetable oil. I mix it up and keep it in an old butter tub in the fridge. I use a crumpled-up paper towel to spread it on my pans.

Saving on Carpet Cleaning

I clean carpets for a living. If you want to clean your carpets yourself, mix 1/2 cap of liquid laundry detergent to about a gallon of water in a bucket. Scrub soiled areas with a stiff brush. Get the carpet pretty wet to make sure it gets clean. Load a home machine with hot water only, no soap. You'll just be using the machine to rinse. Dry by using a fan.

It's cheap, and it will save you the cost of bringing in a professional.

Natural disasters don't wait for a convenient time

And you shouldn't wait to prepare either. In some cases there is little to no warning.

Prepare now to lessen the impact of disasters and emergencies

Remember:  You can’t buy life insurance after you’re dead!

When you think about packing up items to help you survive a natural or human-made disaster, you often think of backpacks. And there is good reason.

Backpacks are sturdy, lightweight, and with multiple pouches and pockets, they allow you to stow a large number of essentials. They come in expandable widths and sizes to fit even your smallest family members. And the best part is that your hands remain free with a backpack.

From what I can tell of my neighbors suggests most are short sighted when it comes to being prepared...having an extra case of beer seems to be ample preparedness!

I'd be inclined to help my neighbors-it's how I was brought up...
