NASA Issues strong suggestion to employees - Get
Prepared Now!
A major initiative has been placed on Family/Personal
Preparedness for all NASA personnel. The NASA/Family Preparedness Program is
designed to provide awareness, resources, and tools to the NASA Family (civil
servants and contractors) to prepare for an emergency situation. The most
important assets in the successful completion of NASA’s mission are our
employees’ and their families. We are taking the steps to prepare our
workforce, but it is your personal obligation to prepare yourself and your
families for emergencies.
More and more of the mainstream press and government
agencies are warning their people to get ready for emergencies…what does this
suggest? Here a few links to documents

Garden Hose Care
Do not store a hose where the sun will shine down on
it. The sun’s heat will dry it out. Also, keep a hose away from any kind of
heating source, like a furnace or outdoor barbecue.
If the hose has sprung a little leak, instead of using
glue or tape to repair it, try this fix—heat up the tip of an ice pick or
Phillips-head screwdriver, and gently touch the rubber around the hole in the
hose with the hot tip of the tool. It should seal the hole close.
Father’s Day - some history and Freebies
Credit for originating the holiday is generally given
to Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, whose father, a Civil War veteran,
raised her and her five siblings after their mother died in childbirth.
She is said to
have had the idea in 1909 while listening to a sermon on Mother’s Day, which at
the time was becoming established as a holiday. Local religious leaders
supported the idea, and the first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910,
the month of the birthday of Dodd’s father. Regardless of when the first true
Father’s Day occurred, the strongest promoter of the holiday was Mrs. Dodd of
Spokane, Washington. Mrs. Dodd felt that she had an outstanding father.
The Associated Men's Wear Retailers formed a National Father's Day Committee in New York
City in the 1930s, which was renamed in 1938 to National Council for the
Promotion of Father's Day and incorporated several other trade groups. This
council had the goals of legitimizing the holiday in the mind of the people and
managing the holiday as a commercial event in a more systematic way, in order
to boost the sales during the holiday. (Source: Wikipedia)

Many Uses for Epsom Salts – keep a good supply handy
Epsom Salt - Long known as a natural remedy for a
number of ailments, Epsom salt has numerous health benefits as well as many
beauty, household and gardening-related uses.
At the Epsom
Salt Industry Council web site I learned that epsom salts—made of the
mineral magnesium sulfate—are also a sedative for the nervous system.
When magnesium sulfate is absorbed through the skin,
such as in a bath, it draws toxins from the body, sedates the nervous system,
reduces swelling, relaxes muscles, is a natural emollient, exfoliator, and much
more.
Relaxing and sedative bath: Soak in warm water and 2 cups of Epsom salt. Read more about the Amazing Health Benefits of Epsom Salt Baths
Foot soak: Soothe aches,
remove odors and soften rough skin with a foot soak. Add 1/2 cup of Epsom salt
to a large pan of warm water. Soak feet for as long as it feels right. Rinse
and dry. Or try an Epsom Salt Peppermint Foot Scrub.
Soak sprains and bruises: Epsom salt will reduce the swelling of sprains and bruises. Add 2 cups
epsom salt to a warm bath, and soak
Athlete’s Foot - Soak feet in an Epsom salt bath to help relieve the symptoms of Athlete’s Foot.
Remove splinters - Soak
affected skin area in an Epsom salt bath to draw out the splinter.
Treat toenail fungus - Soak
your affected toes in hot water mixed with a handful of Epsom salt three times
a day.
Soothe sprains and bruises - Add 2 cups Epsom salt to a warm bath and soak to reduce the pain and
swelling of sprains and bruises
Home made plant fertilizer too…just add
one tablespoon to a gallon of water and use on your plants…easy and cheap!

PM’s Nanny State Updates…
The Cancer of Government Regulation: How occupational
licensing laws hurt the poor
Politicians care about poor people. We know because they always say that. But then why do they make it so hard for the poor to escape poverty? As John Stossel explains in his latest column, by passing and supporting occupational licensing schemes for taxis, hair braiding, and other harmless professions, politicians keep poor people out of business.

Victim's Advocate
Several people saw four men push 14-year-old Dafarus Coleman and take his jacket aboard a Metro bus in King County, Washington. But when some of them called 911 to report a crime in progress, dispatchers refused to send a deputy. "You cannot report a theft that did not occur to you. The person who the items were stolen from has to report this," a dispatcher told one caller.

Several States Now Restrict How Insurers Can Use Your
Credit Report
An insidious practice by
auto and other insurance firms is to use your credit score against you so they
can charge you higher premiums or deny coverage…Several states are now
restricting this practice. Others, such
as CA, HI, MD, MA, have full or partial bans on the practice. If your state doesn’t have a ban, use a broker
to get coverage through an insurer that won’t penalize you for having a low
credit score.
FBI Agents Given More
Surveillance Powers
“The Federal Bureau of Investigation is giving significant new powers to its
roughly 14,000 agents, allowing them more leeway to search databases, go
through household trash or use surveillance teams to scrutinize the lives of
people who have attracted their attention.” (New York Times)

Why the Recession Continues…Dick Morris Explains Why
The public and the markets seem to be running out of patience and history tells us
when unemployment is as high as it is now, the incumbent US president doesn’t
get re-elected. Obama has, in my
opinion, run out of options for stimulating the economy as he continues to miss
the true obstacles to reviving our country.
Namely:
>>High debt with neither party clear about
stopping our spending spree
>>Our country is hobbled by costly bureaucratic
rules, regulations and costs which discourage business and employment.
>>We’re involved in too many wars
>>Our tax system provides a stumbling block to
all
>>Voters are feeling real pain and the housing
market continues its slide south
Perhaps one of the biggest obstacles - our lack of a
viable energy policy which hampers consumer spending and small business
profitability. As Washington continues
to suck up most of the available credit to service its debt and spending,
little is left over for small businesses, the growth engine which supports this
country.
