Nearly one-third of middle class suffer downward mobility
If you’ve not
considered urban farming for food, barter and income, it’s time…
Nearly one third of
Americans who were raised in the middle class dropped down the economic ladder
as adults -- and that's before the Great Recession hit.
"Being raised in
the middle class is not a guarantee that you'll have that same status as an
adult," said Erin Currier, project manager at Pew's Economic Mobility
Project. "With all the economic turmoil in the past four years, there's
good reason to think that downward mobility is more severe."
Pew looked at children
born in the early- to mid-1960s and assessed their economic status roughly 40

As our readers already
know, I’ve been “swinging the bat” on behalf of the middle class, or what I’ve
re-termed, “the Whittled Class,” for years…yet, most of us will continue voting
the same parties into office. How smart
is that?
The Poor Man has also
written that one of the best investments a family can make lies in urban
farming. During the Great Depression
farm families and those with large gardens managed to survive. They may not have had much cash, but they ate
and don’t forget, the average family then had little or no debt.

inflation-proof, recession-proof (and possibly even depression-proof) returns

Even with bumper crops
of corn and soybeans in recent years, increased demand from China and India –
each with over a billion mouths to feed – has made it difficult for American
farmers to keep up. According to the USDA Crop Report, 2009 was an all-time
record corn harvest of 13.1 billion bushels, and 2010 wasn't far behind at 12.4
billion bushels.
"As the dollar
declines and food supplies become more strained, expect relative food costs in
the U.S. to jump."
A good part of your

Facial Recognition:
Beating Surveillance Cameras
A New York web
designer started a project called CV Dazzle when he was getting his master's degree at New York University in
2010. His objective: to show people how to hide in plain sight.
Sure, the cameras at
banks or airport checkpoints may be on the lookout for robbers or would-be terrorists, using facial recognition technology to match
pictures to existing ones. But private enterprise is busy as well.
If you tag a picture of yourself on Facebook or Google's Picasa, that image can be used to
identify you in other pictures. Read

Multiple Uses
for Dehydrated Potatoes
Add a burst of flavor
as you rehydrate vegetables by using bouillon or vegetable juice instead of
water. RecipeSecrets.net recommends using these liquids just as you
would use water, either cold or hot. If it is necessary to soak the vegetables
for more than two hours, move them to the refrigerator.
Soup Thickener
or Gravy
Formally a fan of
flour or corn starch, I have started trying a dab of instant potato in my
thicker cream soups and white gravies. My favorite use is, not surprisingly,
potato soup. You can also make a mean corn chowder or white chili with just the
right thickness that only instant potatoes can provide. Experiment with
different amounts to get just the right effect.
Potato Bread
Delicious and full of
carbs, a good potato bread is priceless. Make it yourself and be the envy of
all your friends. It’s not too difficult, and you can throw in some of those
instant potatoes for good measure. Blitz them in the food processor, rehydrate
them and use in potato bread. I love the silky quality potatoes give to bread
dough. The bread also keeps fresher longer.

Meatloaves and Meatballs
I have always loved
preparing little meatloaves, and traditionally they are made with bread crumbs,
rice, or oatmeal. Have you ever tried instant potatoes, instead? It makes
meatloaf with a very consistent texture that is great for fancier variations.
Simply substitute the potatoes cup for cup, and prepare as usual.

Conflict
between rich, poor strongest in 24 years
Yet, we keep
re-electing the same foxes to guard the henhouse. How smart is that?
WASHINGTON (AP) —
Tensions between the rich and poor are increasing and at their most intense
level in nearly a quarter-century, a new survey shows. Americans now see more
social conflict over wealth inequality than over the hot-button topics of
immigration, race relations and age.
Not once have I heard any politician volunteer to give
up any portion of their pay or gold plated perks – have you?

Doctors to be made worse by Obamacare
Approximately 40 percent of all doctors in the United States are 55 years of age or older. Large numbers of them are getting ready to retire.

Even before Obamacare
was passed, we were already facing a massive shortage of doctors in the coming
years. The American Association of Medical Colleges has projected that we will
experience a shortage of more than 150,000 doctors over the next 15 years.
The passage of Obamacare is going to make this
crisis even worse. A whole host of surveys have shown that a massive number of
doctors in America are headed for the exits because of the new health care law....

Most Americans
are too stupid or complacent to care…Corporate-owned “Lamestreet” media won’t
report this.
As 2012 began, over 40,000 new laws went into effect all over America. Some of these new
laws are good, but most of them are about restricting the liberties and
freedoms of individual Americans.
In America today, the
politicians have convinced most of us that in order to keep us all
"safe" we must give up many of our rights and move toward becoming a
totalitarian police state. In the "new America", you don't get any
rights. They tell us that giving people rights is too dangerous. Instead, you
get some limited "privileges" which can be revoked at any time by the
authorities. Sadly, most Americans have become so dumbed-down that they don't
even realize what is happening.
It has recently been
revealed that the Department of Homeland Security plans to monitor social media
outlets on the Internet. If you use the wrong "keywords" or if you
are a key "influencer" on the Internet, there is no doubt that
someone from the federal government will be keeping tabs on you.
Under the National Operations Center (NOC)’s Media
Monitoring Initiative that came out of DHS headquarters in November, Washington
has the written permission to retain data on users of social media and online
networking platforms.
Specifically, the DHS announced the NCO and its Office
of Operations Coordination and Planning (OPS) can collect personal information
from news anchors, journalists, reporters or anyone who may use “traditional
and/or social media in real time to keep their audience situationally aware and
informed.”
There is a new bill
before Congress that would even give the federal government the power to
instantly strip individuals of citizenship if they are suspected of being
“hostile” to the United States.
According to the bill,
you can be stripped of your U.S. citizenship for “engaging in, or purposefully
and materially supporting, hostilities against the United States.”

Webcam monitoring doesn't require fancy cameras. Instead your old, unused webcams can be put to good use, by setting them up as security cameras. There are a bunch of webcam software options like GotoCamera available online, that will help you use their service for this purpose.
