The many uses for Alum Powder-AKA: Styptic
Alum powder, often found in spices department of grocery stores, is often used for pickling, as additive to preserve crispness for cucumbers and other foods. It is also one of several components in baking powder. Furthermore, it has many uses, popularly endorsed being a do-it-yourself home remedy and treatment for canker sores. Alum is readily available in many, sold in powder or crystalline stone in sachets found in groceries, pharmacies and online stores. Ingest it directly, the taste will be sweet and then cause the mouth to pucker. Most of us have eaten it or in contact with it, in one way or another.

Due to the antiseptic characteristics of alum powder, it is used in many health products. For example, it is used in mouthwashes where it is used to treat halitosis, gum and canker sores. You can also find alum extensively used in toothpaste and in most skin products like deodorant because of it antibacterial attribute preventing the bacteria causing body odor. Alum can helps shrink the skin, closing the pores and reduce bleeding from razor cuts thus it is excellent aftershave tool, which sold as Styptic pencils. But if you have the Alum crystal, all you have to do is dip it in the water then press and rub it gently on the skin.

Alum powder makes a good additive as water treatment agent because of its acidic and antibacterial nature, also makes the insoluble compounds in water to form residue, which then sink to the bottom and thus be easily filtered out.

Alum powder which also known as potassium aluminium sulphate, has many uses and one of them is for water purification. Water purification is an important thing that we must take in order to make sure the water we drink is clean and safe. There are many chemicals that we can use to purify water. According to researchers, the water we drink contains harmful particles such as phosphorus particles. Alum has the power to bind phosphorus particles together so your water can be safe and secure to drink.

The process of water purification using alum powder is very simple and you can do it on your own. Start by assembling all the things you will need before you start the purification process. These include a clean container, the contaminated water and a reaction vessel. Put the contaminated in the reaction vessel and then stir continuously. Next, add at least 1.4 ounces of alum powder in the reaction vessel and stir continuously for five minutes. After sometime you will start to notice some sediments as the phosphorus particles are removed.

After the particles have settled down, you can now start the filtration process. Place the filtration apparatus over the container that will hold the clean water. It is important to label the container holding water that has already been purified to distinguish it from other containers holding contaminated water. Filter the water with alum powder using the filtration apparatus. The phosphorus particles will not be allowed to pass the filtration apparatus, and at the end of the day you will have clean water.

When you use alum powder for water purification, the impure particles in the water are bound together in order to form water sediment. These bound particles are heavier than water, and thus they settle at the bottom of the container holding the water, making it easy for you to get rid of them. If you live in the rural area this powder is perfect for you. People in rural areas usually use water from streams and rivers, and the water might contain phosphorus from grazing lands and farms. Use the chemical to get rid of these chemicals to keep your loved ones safe. However, this does not mean that the chemical cannot be used in urban centers. Many weed-n-feed fertilizers carry the same ingredients as Agent Orange and can cause headaches and illness for months. Use this non-toxic option: Spray your lawn with a mix of 2 Tbs. of Epsom salts per gallon of water, then water as usual.

Make Your Own Smoke Bomb for the 4^th of July

The smoke bomb you would purchase from a fireworks store usually is made from potassium chlorate (KClO₃ - oxidizer), sugar (sucrose or dextrin - fuel), sodium bicarbonate (otherwise known as baking soda - to moderate the rate of the reaction and keep it from getting too hot), and a powdered organic dye (for colored smoke). When a commercial smoke bomb is burned, the reaction makes white smoke and the heat evaporates the organic dye. Commercial smoke bombs have small holes through which the smoke and dye are ejected, to create a jet of finely dispersed particles. Crafting this type of smoke bomb is beyond most of us, but you can make an effective smoke bomb quite easily. There are even colorants you can add if you want to make colored smoke. Let's start out with instructions for the easiest/safest type of smoke bomb you can make:

Smoke Bomb Materials

>sugar (sucrose or table sugar)

>potassium nitrate, KNO₃, also known as saltpeter (buy it online or you can find this at some garden supply stores in the fertilizer section, some pharmacies carry it too)

>skillet or pan

>aluminum foil

Pour about 3 parts potassium nitrate to 2 parts sugar into the skillet (5:3 ratio is also good). Measurements don't need to be exact, but you want more KNO₃ than sugar. For example, you can use 1-1/2 cups KNO₃ and 1 cup sugar. If you use equal amounts of KNO₃ and sugar, your smoke bomb will be harder to light and will burn more slowly. As you approach the 5:3 KNO₃:sugar ratio, you get a smoke bomb that burns more quickly.

Apply low heat to the pan. Stir the mixture with a spoon using long strokes. If you see the grains of sugar starting to melt along the edges where you are stirring, remove the pan from the heat and reduce the temperature before continuing.

Basically you are carmelizing sugar. The mixture will melt and become a caramel or chocolate color. Continue heating/stirring until the ingredients are liquefied. Remove from heat.

Warren had planned to live there till he died and then be buried right next to his wife, there on their property at 11 Freedom Lane, in the town of Plains, Montana, but now, not only is he being forced off his land, he is being forced to exhume his wife’s body and take her with him.

Why Americans Will Never be Truly Free

If you have been frustrated as to why people don’t get mad as hell and revolt against government, perhaps some these insights will reveal the truth about the average American.

50% of adults work for government at a local, county, state or federal level, or for a corporation that has a contract with the federal government. None will bite the hand that feeds them. But after what we saw in IL, that may change. Almost daily there are reports of local governments going broke because they over-promised generous retirement benefits they can longer afford.

Roughly 19% of Americans, especially men, are unemployed and will not bite the hand that feeds them.

A growing number of Americans (52% receive some government benefit) are on welfare and will never ever bite the hand that feeds them.

Most Americans are more concerned with so-called ‘reality TV programs’ and pay little attention to the forces which are decimating America. They happily vote in the same career politicians year after year.

The elderly and those reaching the age where they might collect Social Security are unlikely to upset the apple cart. (Take away their Social Security & watch what happens).

The majority of Americans are either too lazy, too stupid or don’t care about what’s going on in the world or in America. They’ve been conditioned since childhood through government run schools not to question authority. Indeed, they’ve been taught what to think, not HOW to think. In their view, someone in the government will ‘magically’ solve our problems.

Most Americans are ‘Sunshine Patriots,’ meaning they’ll tell everyone they are patriotic while waving the Flag on the 4^th of July and other holidays, but will they actually do something to restore this country to its former greatness? Odds are against it.

Then, there are some who actually work against American principles…We recently reported on news about a NY school administrator who banned the singing of "God Bless the USA" at a school event. The administrator claimed the ban was due to the fact that the song was not age appropriate. Ironically, she then replaced the song with one from Justin Bieber.

So, ask yourself—- how bad do you want to be free?
