Do Your Remember What a Library is?

Learn to save money using their free resources…

Those who know me well always wonder if I was born in a library.  If I were in the recesses of the NYC library and a bomb went off, I’d never know about it as I love to read and have done so since about age 5 (Thanks Grandma)!

Reading in the United States has plummeted, a direct link to why US students lag so far behind other nations. A quick look at online ads or facebook comments indicate many no longer know how to spell and for years employers have reported the need for remedial reading and math programs for entry level workers.  Yet, the US spends more on public education than any other country!

Many libraries have noticed this deplorable state and now offer remedial programs free of charge.  Did you know many libraries now offer lending programs for gardening supplies and fix-it tools?  In addition to tools many have how-to videos on gardening and DIY projects.

Don’t have a AAA membership?  Many are finding travel planning assistance at local libraries to pinpoint the best options.  More and more librarians now provide free job finding assistance and some offer help with acquiring new skills such as typing and computer classes or in learning a second language.

Some libraries are now equipped to help lower your electric bill.  Ask yours if they loan out electric usage monitors.  You can use these devices to pinpoint how much electricity your appliances are using when in use and when turned off but still plugged in.

If you’ve not visited your library in awhile, you could be pleasantly surprised at what it might offer you in terms of guidance, free resources and in becoming more money-wise.  Think of it as another way to get more bang out of your local tax dollar while encouraging your children to read.

A soil test is one of the best gardening investments you can make and a complete test can be had from your local County or Cooperative Extension Service…the results will tell you what you need for fertilization and more.
