What Makes Humans Smart-And
so Stupid?
The
evolution of human intelligence puzzles scientists. We can trace the growth of
our brains from the earliest Home Sapiens some 200,000 years ago but no one
seems able to explain how we inexplicably had a burst of intelligence roughly
35,000 - 50,000 years ago…
The Great Leap Forward began around
35,000 to 50,000 years ago…
It was the period when human evolution picked up considerable momentum and our ancestors began to evolve at a much faster pace.
It was the period when human evolution picked up considerable momentum and our ancestors began to evolve at a much faster pace.
Ironically, for the
past 10,000 years, our brains have been shrinking by a full 15% today!
Susan Jacoby, author of The
Age of American Unreason, says
in an article in the Washington Post, "Dumbness, to paraphrase the late
senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, has been steadily defined downward for several
decades, by a combination of heretofore irresistible forces. These include the
triumph of video culture over print culture; a disjunction between Americans'
rising level of formal education and their shaky grasp of basic geography, science and history; and
the fusion of anti-rationalism with anti-intellectualism."
Scriptwriters
and TV copywriters are helping in the decline of the English language and
furthering the ‘dummying down’ of America.
Much of television provides viewers a daily offering of mental mush.
People are addicted to shiny objects to the point of distraction…often
the nightly news features these folks walking off subway platforms, walking off
sidewalks careening into traffic-oblivious to their surroundings making
themselves easy targets for muggers and thieves.
This mass distraction is
uniquely dystopian…every single minute on the planet, YouTube users upload 400
hours of video. Each day, there are
literally billions of Facebook “likes.” Schools often no longer teach, but instead
entertain. Too often they tell students
what to think rather than how to think and frequently overlook the basic three R’s.
In fact, I used to conduct
workshops on brainstorming and creative thinking techniques for businesses at a
major university and throughout the nation and the number one complaint voiced
by business owners was their need to offer remedial classes in basic math and
reading skills to their employees because schools did not adequately prepare
students for the work world.

“David approaches the human
evolution regarding topics like the ignorance and stupidity from a
philosophical point of view, showing how people lives can be affected by them
and guide his readers based on pieces of advice and inspiring quotes from
successful people to the right sources of information, in order to (re)
increase their intelligence and improve their lives.
I appreciated that the author’s
manner of writing is straight to the point and the fact that even if every
chapter was referenced, there are a lot of other inspiring sources for the
readers who would like to go deeper on this subject, from another point (s) of
view.
As I had a positive and
inspiring experience reading, I would recommend it to the people who would like
to enrich their general knowledge!”

Big Thing: Discovering What You Were Born to Do
Named by
Washington Post as one of the top five books for 2012, One Big Thing is about
finding out what you were born to do with your life and how to use it to
revolutionize your life and change the world. In a complex, multi-layered
world, it’s more difficult than ever to get your voice heard and to accomplish
your dreams. To stand out today, you need to cut through the clutter and get
noticed. Making that happen means to focus on the one thing in your life that
drives you, inspires your passion, and separates you from the pack. For
everyone who’s been pulled in different directions, born with multiple
abilities, or just wondered what to do with their lives, this is the answer.
Phil Cooke helps you not only discover that one big thing, but also teaches you
the secrets of making an unforgettable impact with your life.
In today’s distracted, digital culture,
it’s harder than ever to identify your calling, get your voice heard, and
achieve your dreams. Hardbound. Media

I like this! [Maybe you shouldn't share this however-our politicians might not want the natives to become so smart they'll wake up & see what they're up to :)]
