what to know about wireless emergency alerts (wea)

Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) send free informational text messages to WEA-enabled cell phones within range of an imminent and dangerous local situation, severe weather event, or AMBER emergency.

  • The WEA notification is designed to get your attention and notify you with a unique sound and vibration.
  • Public safety officials use WEA to send you essential information whenever you are near the location of a life-threatening event.
  • You do not need to register to receive WEA notifications. You will automatically receive alerts if you have WEA-capable phone and your wireless carrier participates in the program.
  • To find out if your mobile device is capable of receiving WEA alerts, contact your mobile device carrier or visit CTIA The Wireless Association
  • Download the WEA Fact Sheet or view Frequently Asked Questions.

For more information on WEA Alerts, go to go to or (Spanish).

release of national preparedness report

FEMA and its partners recently released the 2013 National Preparedness Report (NPR).  The NPR is an annual status report on the nation's progress toward reaching the National Preparedness Goal of a secure and resilient nation.

Overall, the NPR found the nation continues to make progress building preparedness in key areas and identifies several significant areas of national strength. The report also identified areas for national improvement in enhancing the resilience of infrastructure systems and maturing the role of public private partnerships.

To say that Barbara Garson has led an interesting life is to sell her short, but then, the 71-year-old investigative dynamo is only 4'11".

After being arrested with Mario Savio and 800 others during Berkeley's Free Speech movement in 1964, Garson spent 10 days at the Santa Rita prison farm…More at:

10 Rules for Dealing with Police

Billy Murphy talks about how to deal with the police. He’s been a judge, but he’s best known as a criminal defense lawyer. He knows how the law works and he knows that for many people the law sometimes doesn’t work. He’s going to show you how to make the law work for you. The choices you make can have a massive impact in the outcomes of your police encounters, even if, and especially if, you’ve done nothing wrong.

A More Perfect Union

This video presentation is a re-enactment of one of the most important events to take place in the history of modern civilization. I suggest that you watch the video and share it with all of your friends, neighbors and countrymen.

David Korten on “Walking Away from the King”

In this clip from the film Money and Life, thinker David Korten explains why those who hold power in our society depend on our consent, and why we must act together if we want things to change.

Is the American consumer maxed out?  With personal and disposable income dropping, manufacturing declining, debt still too high, and savings starting to rise, it may be time to brace for impact.

The Nanny State-We love our government

Elements of the US Police State

Radio show host Mark Levin confirms what the Poor Man and others have been saying for years and in light of recent privacy invasions by our ‘benevolent’ government, bent on invading our privacy, see his video on how  the elements of a police state are now in place in the US  (In case you hadn’t noticed, we have far less freedom today than ever before in this country).

Don’t “Annoy” Your Local Police Or Else

There is a new bill passed by the New York State Senate that relates to many of the blogs and discussions we have had here through the years. This bill would make it a felony to “annoy” a police officer acting in the course of his duties. While I can understand that directly interfering with a  police officer in the middle of his duties should not be done, we have seen through the years that the police broadly interpret what is “interference” to include what is obviously a person exercising their First Amendment rights, such as responding negatively to a police officers’ actions or videotaping them.

Obamacare intends to capture all your personal identifying health info, making it government property
(NaturalNews) As angry tens of millions of us are at the Internal Revenue Service's illegal targeting of groups politically opposed to President Obama, we are about to get a whole lot angrier at the IRS as it takes a major role in enforcing privacy-stealing...

The Parting Thought:

Social Contract with Government is a Fraud

There are many theories to explain government. Most are nothing but scams, justifications, and puffery. One tries to put something over on the common man... the other claims it was for his own good... and the third pretends that he'd be lost without it.

Most are not really "theories" at all... but prescriptions, blueprints for creating the kind of government the "theorist" would like to have. Not surprisingly, the blueprints flatter his intellect and engage his imagination.

The "social contract," for example, is a fraud. You can't have a contract unless you have two willing and able parties. They must come together in a meeting of the minds -- a real agreement about what they are going to do together.

But what is the "social contract" with government? There was never a meeting of the minds. The deal was forced on the public. And now imagine that you want out. Can you simply "break the contract"? You refuse to pay your taxes and refuse to be bossed around by TSA agents and other government employees. How long will it be before you are put in jail?

What kind of contract is it that you don't agree to and can't get out of? They can dress it up... print out a piece of paper... have a solemn ceremony in which everyone pretends it is a real contract. But it's not worth the paper it's not written on.  More at:
