Food isn't what it used to be...Win a Wellness Package

Diet Coke with lemon – didn’t that used to be called Pledge?

Food isn’t what it used to be…

A 2004 study conducted by the University of Texas examined USDA nutrition information for 43 fruits and vegetables in 1950 and 1999. The study concluded that there were noticeable declines in nutritional value between the two time periods. Calcium, phosphorus, Vitamin C and iron are just a few of the essential nutrients that have been reduced in the last 50 years.

It appears that our food really is less healthy than it once was.

How can we combat this?

Experts recommend planting crops in soil that has been given time to recover after a harvest. Cycling your garden helps plants absorb fresh vitamins and minerals from the soil. Adding organic compost has a similar effect if cycling your garden isn’t feasible.

Even “heirloom seeds” are hardly a representation of the foods eaten by our early ancestors, but with proper care, these plants can provide us with more essential nutrients than any multivitamin ever can and in a form that is easily digested by the body.

There is much hype over the current health fad of eating gluten-free products and much of it is nonsense for most people.  For some people it can cause serious health problems.  Always see a doctor before you begin any kind of new health regimen.

Amazing Anti-Inflammation Tea

Combine green tea and ginger for beating inflammation.  Boil 4 cups of water and add 2-inch (peeled & sliced) piece of ginger to the pot.

Boil it another minute and add 4 green tea bags.  Remove from heat and steep 2-3 minutes and then add a teaspoon of D-ribose for sweetness (found in most health food stores).

ALSO NOTED…if you need an ingenious solution for a nagging problem, brew a cup of caffeinated tea and sip…the unique amino acid in teach (I-theanine) stimulates relaxing alpha waves in your brain that make you a better problem solver.
