A Digest of Urban Survival Resources
The Folly of Preparedness
In this blog you get frequent reminders to stock up on food, water, medicines, toiletries, guns n ammo,
etc. I follow my own advice and it
proved worthwhile during this pandemic…not once did we need to buy any TP or
other toiletries. Other than fresh fruit and vegetables, we have no need of
most groceries either.
It’s apparent that many still don’t get it – even after the government
shutdown where it seems the media ran story after story about well paid
government employees who didn’t have enough food or cash set aside to last even
30 days!
Too many people have a bias toward ‘normality.’ This is the belief things will always return
to being the same. Be prepared is
drilled into Boy Scouts and nearly everyone who survived the Great
Depression. If your vehicle breaks down
you have a spare tire or a cell phone to call AAA. If a storm knocks out your
power, hopefully, you have a backup generator to tide you over.
There's a reason we've been urging folks to
plant a garden for years now!
There’s a specific sound reason for this. You may have heard about the lack of
workers to plant and harvest veggies, and we’ve read about the shuttering of
meat packing plants. But are you also aware of the ominous rumblings of an
increasing number of nations making preparations for the possible loss of food
imports? National ‘food hoarding’ is popping up on my radar screen.
Those who survived Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans learned quickly to
be self reliant, not dependent on government.
That disaster should have taught everyone to have at least a week’s
worth of food and water on hand!
I believe our dollar will become progressively
worth less in the coming year. The
unbelievable amount of debt issued in the name of ‘saving America’ this year
will have negative repercussions for our spending power. Add to the coming hyperinflation, we continue
to see other nations such as Russia, China, the EU, etc. have sought ways to
stop using the dollar as the reserve currency…this will further lower its value
while helping to inflate the cost of everything we consume. It may be wise to start now with some kind of
local bartering system. [see resource:
How to
start a neighborhood barter club http://www.grassrootsgrantmakers.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Neighborhood_Bartering_Club.pdf]
Too many people make the mistake of
thinking emergencies only happen to other people. I suggest you read Larry Barkdull’s book: Emergency Essentials – Tips for
Preparedness. Everyone should adopt
the Boy Scout mantra of Be Prepared!
Start with a modest preparedness budget,
even if it is as simple as adding a few extra items to your grocery cart each
time you visit the store…a 72 hour kit is a good place to start. I recommend
4Patriots.com [Our storefront offers a variety of useful tools including
bug-out bag, emergency radio, how-to books].
There is no need to incur heavy debt to achieve these goals. Think of food stockpiling as an investment,
not an expense!
For our own preparations, we include
items useful for barter such as liquor [even though we don’t drink], tools,
tobacco, ammo, etc. Find more free
information below.

Make a Biogas Generator to
Produce Your Own Natural Gas
Transform grass clippings, food waste and livestock manure into
renewable biogas energy with a homemade biogas generator.
You can use many household organic “waste” materials to
produce your own natural gas for cooking, lighting, and space and water
heating. This gas, known as “biogas,” can also replace fossil-based natural gas
to fuel an engine or an absorption cooling system, such as a gas refrigerator
or chiller. Some gasoline engines are designed for or can be modified for use
with natural gas, propane or biogas. Diesel engines can accept up to 80 percent
biogas.

It’s been reported that
China is requiring citizens to download a special app that can track their
health status.
For instance, if you need
to go to the grocery store, before you enter the store, you will have the QR
code scanned on your app.
Depending on what the scan
says of your health status, a few things can happen…
--You get to enter the
store and go shopping
--The police take you away
and “voluntarily” quarantine you because it shows you may be infected with the
virus.
Of course, this could never
happen in the U.S., right?

Certainly a lot whiners in the media; focusing on doom n gloom, hatred of POTUS etc. Rare to hear/read anything constructive. Sometimes hard not view them as communist plants trying to spread lies and discontent among a public which seems easy to lead around by their gullible nose-guess that's what socialists do.
I know you've predicted a strong likelihood of hyper inflation in the coming year. Perhaps you can address that in a future issue.
Great resources.
