Use Micro Gigs to Make Extra Cash

Spring Clean Your Home for Extra Cash

Over 50 Places to Sell Your Stuff!  Leslie Truex has been providing legitimate resources since 1998 and offers a variety of useful home-based career resources

Selling my used items online has saved my financial behind several times over the years. When you need cash fast, selling your used and unwanted items can be a quick way to do it.

One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. This is something to consider as you clean out the clutter during spring cleaning. While donating the items you don’t want and need can get a tax deduction for charitable donation, you might make more by selling your stuff. In fact, it might be easier to part with items if you knew you’d make money from it.

Below are over 50 resources for selling your unused and unwanted items online.

Neither my husband nor I have gotten a raise in quite a few years, much like the rest of the country, but our expenses have gradually been creeping up. We've done all we can to find ways to reduce our expenses but we've finally hit a point that we really need to have more income to make ends meet and still be able to save for the future. With our current work schedules, I am in the best position to find part-time work but not if it means paying for childcare to do so. Can other work-at-home folks recommend any sites they have used to find work-at-home gigs? I know some of these sites charge a monthly fee. Are any better than the others? Are there any that seem like they are a sham?

Of course, more folks today, especially retirees and women, pursue businesses of their own, even micro-businesses or sideline ventures.  This is a good avenue to get your feet wet without a lot of time or capital.

How do you earn a little extra money each month? Here are some new ideas.

Get Paid to Write Greeting Cards

Greeting Card firms still pay anywhere from $25 to $300 for your submissions.  Here are a few ways to get started:

>Start by figuring out your forte:  There are three basic types of greeting card text…Verse, prose and punch lines.  Browse the card aisle at your local store and read through samples of each.  Which style mirrors your own favorites?  Look at the reverse side of the card to find the publishers information and contact them to see if they’re accepting freelance submissions and what their guidelines are [often they have websites that you can check].

>Firms such as Blue Mountain Arts [SPS.com], Oatmeal Studios.com, CalypsoCards.com and other companies are eager for submissions-be certain to study their writer submission guidelines closely.

These guidelines clue you in to the type of greeting a company is seeking, they also spell out important details such as how many submissions they’ll accept, if they prefer their submissions via the USPS, on index cards and so on.

Whatever your sentiment, it is important to use as few words as possible.  It’s all about getting to the punch line as quickly as possible…or, if it is a heartwarming card, it means getting to that emotional moment [that ‘Kodak moment’ as quickly as possible.

Perhaps it's time to contemplate whether you could earn enough money if you became self-employed, having your own business.

How to Start a Business With (Almost) No Money (Entrepreneur): "You’re excited to start a business. Maybe you have an idea, or you’re just fascinated with the idea of launching and growing your own enterprise. You’re willing to take some risks, like leaving your current job or going without personal revenue for a while. But there’s one logistical hurdle stopping you: You don’t have much money."

Will Technology Make Jobs Obsolete? 36 Free Educational Websites

“You never plan on living with a female android - it just sort of happens. At first it seems like the ultimate male fantasy: to live with a beautiful woman who is programmed to obey. It soon becomes obvious, however, that a fembot is stronger, smarter, and sexier than any male counterpart. Don't despair: Her superiority makes the fembot perfectly suited to act as your first line of defense when your neighborhood becomes a battle zone.”
Daniel Wilson

Have you ever wondered whether technology will make your job obsolete?

Raising the minimum wage may be mute for some jobs, especially if those jobs are replaced by a robot.

If you haven't already, you probably should at least ask the question. A recent article said that eventually 50% of all job tasks could be done without a person.

Now that's not to say that 50% of all jobs will disappear. Most jobs contain some things that can be automated and other tasks that cannot. The article is saying that 50% of the tasks that we do at work could disappear.

Here's just one example. There was a time when a real estate professional had to spend hours finding possibilities for buyers. Today, a few clicks does the job. Instead of paging through the MLS listing, real estate agents today are spending more time helping buyers find appropriate financing. They've shifted part of their time from a routine repetitive task and started using it more productively.

So how do you and I prepare for this automated future? First, you might want to
read the original article.

Next, you probably should look at your job and guesstimate how much of your job could be eliminated by automation. You'll need to do this once a year or so from now on.

Then find out what you could learn that would make you more valuable when those tasks are automated. Employers will be happy to keep people who can give up repetitive tasks and replace them with more demanding, more profitable work. There's actually an opportunity for ambitious, prepared workers.

Then consider if additional education will help you prepare for those future tasks. We have an affiliate with
360training.com. They have many courses that could help you reach that next step. Some are expensive, but losing your job isn't cheap either. Check with your employer. Many will even pay for additional training.

You may find that it'll be hard to upgrade your job and that you need to prepare for limited hours and perhaps even look for a new career field. We have another affiliate that can
help you find another job.

This is not going to be an easy transition. Very few jobs will be untouched by automation in the future. Employers and government can help people prepare, but ultimately you are responsible for your future. If you rely on others, you could be sitting around your home wondering what happened to your future. And, that's something that we'd like to help you avoid. So take action now while there's still time to prepare for what's ahead.

36 Free Educational Websites

According to www.webometrics.info, there are more than 17,000 universities, but getting a degree in many of them is quite costly. Many students around the world (and their families) get into big debt or have to work over sixty hours a week in order to afford an education.

Colleges include the Free University of Reddit, MIT’s Open Courseware, Udacity, Coursera, Alsison and others…

Two-thirds of the US college seniors who graduated in 2011 had student loan debt, with an average of over 27 000 USD per person. Reading those statistics I can’t stop thinking about those words from over 30 years ago from Isaac Asimov, the famed scientist and science fiction writer [probably best known for the I Robot series].

With mass education, it turned out that most people could be taught to read and write. In the same way, once we have computer outlets in every home, each of them hooked up to enormous libraries, where you can ask any question and be given answers, you can look up something you’re interested in knowing, however silly it might seem to someone else.

NOTE:  I’ve always maintained that a better way to increase one’s take home pay is for the government to eliminate ALL taxes at EVERY level on the first $25,000 of income.  That could give everyone an immediate boost in take home pay and spending power and would not burden small businesses – What do you think?

Yours for better living,

Bruce , the Poor Man
