As winter grows closer, it's time to start preparing for large winter storms and blizzards. We tend to joke that everyone has to run out and get milk and bread before the snow comes, but anyone who has lived through a massive blizzard understands you need more than milk and bread in your winter storm stockpile.

The winters all over the country are changing. If you follow the Farmer's Almanac, then you know that they're predicting bitterly cold winter conditions in areas east of the Rocky Mountains to the Appalachian Mountains. Are you ready for the freezing, frigid, and snowy winter that is predicted?

People all over the country have found themselves in the hands of Mother Nature with their proverbial pants down. The last time you want to be caught unprepared is in the middle of a blizzard...

Borax (also known as sodium borate) is a naturally-occurring mineral found in soil, plants, and even our own bodies. When I was growing up, my mom used it as a laundry booster, which is what most people use it for. In my twenties, I learned to use it as an ingredient in homemade laundry detergent. Then in my thirties, I was surprised to discover over 30 other things you can do with borax!

Granted, most of these uses have nothing to do with survival. But what I love about versatile items like vinegar, baking soda, and borax is they eliminate the need to store lots of cleaning supplies. One four-pound box can be used to clean almost anything around the house and it takes up very little space, leaving you room to store more important things, like food. That's why I recommend adding borax to your survival supplies.

If you're still not convinced, check out this list of uses for borax...

Unethical socialist-democrats are involved in hostile takeover of our nation. They’re a grave threat to democracy and erosion of trust in our government. They promote hostility, divisiveness and victimhood using whatever dirty tricks they can to unseat Trump and the rule of law.

Impeachment Sham- Angry Democrats To Americans: Your Votes Mean Nothing

I learned during my service days & contract work there is no political affiliation on your dog tags…unlike Hillary & CIA partisans, I signed agreements to essentially keep my political views to myself and to keep my mouth shut.  I served the President, not a political party.

Communist takeover of Hungary in the early 50s included threatening its duly elected leader & his family, secret police meetings in cities, planting false stories about him in media, packing local elections w/ Communist puppets, etc. Just like the socialist-Dems are doing w/ Trump today.

Repression always begins with gutting of rights and freedom of speech.  The Far Left makes use of what many call the ‘PC Police’ to keep people in line via peer pressure and public ridicule. They love to practice intolerance in the name of tolerance.  They seem to be the real purveyors of prejudice while sewing seeds of discord and hate. They’ve become political bullies which in turn is fueled by media bullies.

Secular progressives [socialists] insist on trashing our traditions, religion our founders; destroying self reliance and independence in the process.

Always demonizing conservatives through instigation, manipulation and maliciousness…effectively paralyzing free speech .  Keeping people dependent on welfare and substandard educational facilities are some of the tools used to keep folks in bondage and subservient.

In Rules for Radicals, author Alinsky tells ‘community organizers’ to not have conversations with their opponents; do not give them a chance to build any credence.  Activists must demonize their opponents; seek to have the public think you will ‘deliver’ them from the demons.

Belittle and demonize religion is a tool progressives use against conservatives. Remove God from all aspects of public life despite our Founders building a nation which incorporated the almighty into their grand plan. They want the STATE to be the highest authority.

Our Founders were terrified at the thought of an expanding government that had a voracious appetite for the resources of its people, one that would encroach on the rights of its people.

Ignorance is the reason history repeats itself, hence, why progressives have dumbed down an entire generation.  Dumb people are easier to control.  Politicians and media know this and take full advantage.

I have repeatedly warned that Democrats should have never gone down the road of impeachment, because either way this process turns out it is going to be very bad for America.

Make Your Own Healing Balm…
Making your own balm also lends itself to making your own solid perfume and healing balms, such as Tiger Balm. Once you understand the simple chemistry of balm making, you are then learning the bases for lotions and soaps. The making of melt and pour lotions and soaps will be discussed in a future article. This article is aimed at just getting you started on the easiest level there is in saving money making your own quality toiletries.

Basic Balm Recipe
The recipe for basic balm is simple. It's one part soy wax (food grade) to one part edible oil (such as canola or sweet almond), but I prefer Emu oil for its healing qualities. A little beeswax helps keep it all a tad hard. I consider "a little beeswax" about 5% of the entire amount of oil and soy. To make the balm, simply melt the bee and soy wax in the microwave only for a few seconds, until just melted. I used a disposable cup when I first started out, but now I keep a little four-ounce plastic Tupperware jar just for balm making. When using a disposable plastic cup, be careful not to get so hot it melts the cup. After I take the melted waxes out of the microwave, I mix in the oil and then any other ingredients.

This is the fun part! At this point, you can add essential oils to make Tiger Balm, fragrance to make solid perfume, a few broken Vitamin E capsules, and/or a little flavor. For lip balm, I usually do not use a sweetener since it causes lip licking and then subsequently dry lips. But there is a sweetener available and a few drops will go a long way. For color, you can swirl in just a tad of old lipstick! Use a toothpick to do this. A little goes a long way.

When I am done mixing my magic, I then simply use little plastic pipettes (like the doctors use) to transfer the warm oil into containers or even lip balm twist chap stick looking tubes. If you are making chap stick, you simply want to increase the soy wax amount to three parts soy to one part oil and keep the beeswax at the 5% of the entire amount.

How Much Does All This Cost?
Let's say I want to make 16 pots, which are about 1/4 of an ounce each. I then need four ounces of base to make those 16 pots. That is actually a very small amount of base. According to our recipe, that would mean two ounces of edible oil and two ounces of soy wax, and then, of course, a little beeswax. You can also buy four ounces of this base already made for $4.95. That means you are paying thirty cents per pot for the pre-made base. Containers run about 30 cents each if you want to get fancy and buy them. You may have some small containers at home, like old cosmetic shells. After considering essential oils, flavors and all, I figure you can make the 16 pots for under $1 for each one. Buying retail and getting less of a quality product would cost over $80

Homemade lotions and toiletries

Tired of paying $10 or more for 8 ounces of luxury lotion? You can make ten times 8 ounces for under $5 and have a much higher quality product if you make it yourself. Making your own Bath and Body Works type lotion is easy and also allows you flexibility to add the ingredients you want to have in them, not what some commercial manufacturer chooses.

Better Health - Eight percent of Americans use meditation to better their health, according to The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. It is becoming increasingly popular due to growing evidence for the health benefits. Recent studies have found that 20 minute of meditation daily can relieve back pain, depression, headaches, and anxiety. Scientists explain these effects as due to the lowering of blood pressure, the slowed heart and breathing rates, and biochemical changes caused by meditation. There is also evidence meditating promotes more restful sleep and boosts the body's immune system.
