The Poor Man's 4th Year Anniversary Message

Freedom is something that dies unless it is used." - Hunter S. Thompson

Many will hear, but how many read our message?

PM celebrates its 4th year of helping the little guy, the average American to fight government nonsense, to get ahead financially, to encourage self reliance skills, to provide you with educational resources and more.

This is my way of reminding you of our mission statement and purpose…we're all in this together!

The Poor Man represents the real America, the one which stands for traditional values, fiscal responsibility and financial security for those who apply themselves. We've been described as a government watchdog while the "Lame Stream" media have become mere lapdogs of the government and Wall Street.

However, all too often I find all that is missing is your support and input! This past week alone one of our posts received 15 positive comments (Wordpress) but nothing from our Yahoo subscribers…a rather disheartening and discouraging note.

Too many of us are `asleep at the wheel,' and don't read this bulletin. So if you don't read and share our messages, we all lose. Our goal has been to reaffirm America as a country by the people and for the people…something many politicians have forgotten.

If you're like me, you don't even recognize America anymore. It sure isn't the `land of opportunity or freedom' I grew up knowing. Some of the values we stand for include protecting you from government control and its reckless, runaway spending. I often feel like we're wallowing in the midst of chaos.

The reelection of Barack Obama—the worst president of my lifetime—is the perfect opportunity for straight talk about the dangerous path our country is on. Seems that every day we witness more erosion of our Constitution and Bill of Rights…we'd like to keep government out of your life. Government agencies and bureaucrats are literally sucking the lifeblood out of our economic future with its non-stop assault of unlegislated red tape.

But instead of being honest with the American people about just how dire our situation is, our elected officials and the media won't level with us…

Are you a giver or a taker? Do you share the resources provided with like-minded friends? Have you promoted us on your social networks? Have you donated or made a purchase to help us promote our cause? We are in the Top 50 Best Self Reliance sites on the internet and your help is needed to maintain that status…

For the true lover of liberty, it must seem insurmountable to actually live free while the ever-expanding police state continues is perpetual push to dominate or control every aspect of our lives. Can any other conclusion be reached than the state and its ever-increasing legions of bureaucrats (now paid more than private sector workers) have every intention of injecting themselves into every transaction we make? Every transfer of property, every sale, every shipment, every receipt, every message is now tracked, your travel is now monitored, every bank account is logged and/or tagged, tracked and taxed by government agencies and it's even considered a criminal act to avoid such government interference…

Over the past few years, something has changed in our great nation.

Maybe you've recognized it too, just as I have.

The sad truth is, America is a very different place than it was just a dozen or so years ago.

Something is dying in our time. As the nation struggles to recover from unsustainable personal and national debt, stagnant wages, the damages wrought by climate change, the loss of privacy to our government, and more, a whole way of life is drawing to a close…

America's middle class is literally vanishing.

Millions have already been squeezed out—having gone from comfortable to struggling. Some are barely surviving financially.

And millions more are about to follow.

If you have any doubts about this, just look around. We all know or have heard about people who were once comfortably middle class but are now fighting to keep their heads above water.

I'm sure if you are over the age of 40, you recognize these changes too… even if you can't pinpoint exactly what's gone on. At the very least, we are witnessing the near complete loss of Individual Privacy in every element of our lives from banking to internet use.

An ABC news affiliate recently reported that the government is now installing street lamps around the country containing "Homeland security applications," which can record video, audio, and bark orders to people nearby.

In Baltimore, the local government has started a project to record all conversations that take place on public buses…
Also, did you know that our top spy bureau, the National Security Agency (NSA) has now basically turned much of its attention from foreign countries… directly onto U.S. citizens?

In fact, NSA is now building the largest data storage facility on the planet in the middle of the Utah desert.

Of course, the loss of individual privacy does much more than simply damage our identity, our quality of life, and our desirability as a place live, work, and raise a family.

When so many people have access to your personal information, it's inevitable that there will be all kinds of terrible things that happen. What happens is known as "function creep."

This is where data collected for one use can be used for another reason, both legally and illegally.

You know you're no longer living in a free country when the government tells you what you can and cannot put in your body…Or, when an unelected board of bureaucrats and corporate insiders can confiscate the assets of hardworking small business owners.

Yet these have become par for the course in the Land of the Free.

All around you are everyday heroes who refuse to be complicit in the economic mistreatment of other people. It would seem most of us are always at the mercy of someone (or something) else and have little control over lives.

Paycheck inequalities…

Today, one in four U.S. workers earns less than $9 an hour—about $19,000 per year. Thirty-nine percent of the nation's children live in low-income households. And African-American and Latino families are much more likely to be poor or low-income and are less likely to have assets or home equity to offset low wages.

Andrew, a manager in a large food business in the Midwest, told me about the moral dilemma of employing people who can't take care of their families even though they are working hard. This was something that he couldn't pretend was okay. He came to the decision to "do what [he] can" even at the risk of being accused of stealing. "I pad their paychecks because you can't live on what they make. I punch them out after they have left for a doctor's appointment or to take care of someone ... And I give them food to take home...."

Ned, who works in a chain grocery store, detours some of the "product" that doesn't quite pass muster—dented cans, not-quite-fresh produce—to his low-wage employees. "I guess you could say I make the most of that," he said. "I make the most of it. I don't see it as a scam. It's not for me, it's for them. ... At the end of the month ... that's all they have."

Help Us to Help You--And others who need to avoid the mental recession!

We'd like your help. We want PM to be a source of inspiration to stay on track for achieving your goals of self reliance and independence. We're on a mission to help as many of our fellow Americans as possible to rise above the crap the Washington-Wall Street Cartel has imposed on the middle class.

Providing frugal living tips, DIY resources, consumer resources, sideline income ideas, and politically incorrect insights in order to make you and your family more independent has been our goal.
We're open to suggestions for improvement that you might have. Many of the best ideas have come from you. We'd like to keep that going. So please share your suggestions, it's the only way all of us can grow.

I was brought up in a home where it was instilled in us that our mission in life is to help others, even if it is just one person. By blessing others, you bless yourself.

Also, you probably know folks who share our concern for the direction our country has been heading. We know it is late in the process to turn things around, but we must not be found wanting in this time of crisis. Share this website with friends and help us get our numbers into the tens of thousands.

Visit our site often and make an attempt at fostering interaction and sharing with others across our endangered country... find ways to minimize the effects of the politicians, and regulators.

Even the hungriest lion cannot eat an elephant by himself, but an army of ants sufficiently large can devour the elephant in just a few minutes.

Is a Curio and Relic Gun License for You?
C&R eligible firearms are defined by your favorite organization and mine, the ATF, as firearms which are of special interest to collectors by reason of some quality other than is associated with firearms intended for sporting use or as offensive or defensive weapons…any firearm that was manufactured at least fifty years ago. Manufactured is the key word here; replicas such as the WASR 10 will not count, even though the AK-47 design is over fifty years old. In addition, these firearms must be certified by the curator of a municipal, state, or federal museum that exhibits curios or relics.

While relics will probably be the weapons your most likely to order, the curio is there for a reason. The description is vague, but the ATF websites says these are any other firearms which derive a substantial part of their monetary value from the fact they are novel, rare, bizarre, or because of their association with some historical figure, period, or event. Weapons that fall under the curio portion of the license are rare and undoubtedly expensive.
Now an important thing to know is the weapons must be in their original configuration to be a C&R weapon. Minor changes like swing swivels, scope mounts, or replacement sights will not change the weapon’s status as a C&R weapon. Modifications like a new composite or plastic stock will, however, change the status.

A curio and relic license is surprisingly easy to obtain, and it allows me to buy weapons from dealers and have them shipped directly to my home. If you can legally buy a gun and are at least twenty-one, you can get a license. You have to fill out the
application, pay thirty dollars, and have an endorsement from local law enforcement. My local sheriff signed off for me without any issue once I explained what the license was for. The license is good for three years.

A quick Google search directed me to a lot of C&R dealers, and I was surprised at how much cheaper it is to buy firearms this way.
If you are shopping for a reliable, tough-as-nails bolt action, a WWII weapon is an awesome choice. If you thought Mosins were cheap in gun stores, how about paying eighty bucks for a choice Mosin? Mosins are great hunting rifles; they pack a wallop and are perfect for hunting any game in North America. Finding Mausers from all around the world is easy
too.

Pistols like the CZ-82 in 9×18 Makarov are available for less than $200. These pistols make great budget CCW pieces. The CZ is a compact pistol, and the 9mm Makarov is comparable to the .380 in firepower.

Stols like the CZ-82 in 9×18 Makarov are available for less than $200. These pistols make great budget CCW pieces. The CZ is a compact pistol, and the 9mm Makarov is comparable to the .380 in firepower.

Walther P38s are renowned well-built handguns firing the commonly available 9mm Parabellum. If your wallet is really being pinched for less than a hundred, you can buy a Russian Nagant Revolver. These handguns aren’t pretty, and they don’t pack a lot of firepower; they are cheap though. You can convert the seven-shot revolver to .32 ACP with a new cylinder if you want an easy round to fire from it.

These weapons may not be your first choice in a tactical weapon for home defense, but the gun you can afford is better than the one you dream about. As I mentioned before, these weapons were meant to survive the toughest wars, so they are perfect truck guns or budget survival weapons. If you already own your black rifle for when things get tough, then one of these bolt actions can be a great hunting rifle or a spare you keep stored away.
Even weapons like the SKS now fall under C&R eligibility, giving you a powerful semi-auto for under three hundred dollars. With all the upgrades the SKS has out there, you can easily make this “relic” into a modern tactical rifle.

The most common and cheapest curio and relic firearms are European models. While American weapons are not going to be as common or nearly as cheap, they are available as well. If you’re shopping on a website like Gunbroker and stumble across a M1 Garand or M1 carbine, they could eligible as C&R. The same goes for 1911s, Colts, and Smiths, and the list goes on and on.

10 Things Credit Bureaus Won't Tell You

Continuing the series of dirty little secrets about various industries, the WSJ's MarketWatch investigates credit bureaus. They find those companies are tracking much more than credit information about you, they boil down your complaints to a three-digit code, and more.

How to get out of a mob: It seems like once a year around Black Friday we hear about someone getting injured in a mob of people. When a mob reacts, it starts to stampede and that's when things get dangerous. Survivalist Bear Grylls offers these suggestions: Stay on your feet. If you fall, cover your head and move sideways toward the wall. Once you're at the wall, stand up and make your way to the exit.

The Nanny State Updates Americans are fat n happy while their rights are trampled!

By Lee Maril

One of the main security components along the U.S.-Mexico border is a system of 12,000 aging ground sensors. These sensors, however, cannot distinguish between human beings trying to cross the border, a grazing cow, or a pack of javelin – the wild boar that roams this area along the Rio Grande. DHS has so far spent billions on trying to find a technology which would better secure the border. The question that should be asked is why DHS has not adopted a proven system of sophisticated ground sensors, like the one which the U.S. Army has successfully deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Technologies employed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are now hitting local streets across the United States, changing how local law enforcement investigates crimes by focusing on where crimes are most likely to happen instead of where a crime has taken place.

The Parting Thought- the times are a changing…

For years, as I’m sure you know, NSA was spying on foreign countries—but now they’ve turned their attention to regular U.S. citizens.

I don’t know if you saw this or not, but a 32-year NSA veteran named Bill Binney (Bill was one of the best mathematicians and code breakers in NSA history), recently went public with the details of this program, called “Stellar Wind.”

The objective of Stellar Wind, according to Binney’s interview with The New York Times, was to “spy on everyone in the country.” So instead of spying on foreigners, our government now spies on us!

As Binney says:

“Domestically, they're pulling together all the data about virtually every U.S. citizen in the country and assembling that information, building communities that you have relationships with, and knowledge about you; what your activities are; what you're doing. So the government is accumulating that kind of information about every individual person and it's a very dangerous process…”

We know for a fact now that the U.S. government has been cataloging and listening in on phone calls U.S. citizens make overseas, reading our emails, etc. And all of this was done without any court orders.

Did you know that Apple Computer was recently granted a patent, which allows it to disable the camera in iPhones, with the simple flip of a switch?

The story was basically unreported in the mainstream press, but a little blurb did appear in the September 17th issue of the International Business Times.

Imagine if the government or the company itself didn’t want something filmed… they could simply flip a switch and disable all cameras in all iPhones located in a certain area.

Look… the list of these privacy invasions and abuses just goes on and on…

** Did you know that one of the biggest computer companies in the world, Hewlett Packard, was recently caught spying on their own employees?

** Or that The Wall Street Journal reported recently that many local governments are tracking all incoming vehicles by photographing and cataloging license plates.

* And how about this…

There was a report about secret tests at a Wal-Mart store where RFID tags were inserted in packages of lipstick, so they could track customer’s movements.

* The company called Aaron Rents was caught watching their own customers in their own homes via web cameras they could turn on!

* CVS Pharmacy sold private information about what kinds of prescriptions their customers were taking… just so drug companies could do better marketing.

And yes, the government and corporate America are totally in this together. The corporations want your information so they can better market their products to you. The government simply wants to spy on you.

And worse, they share this data with each other all the time.

Did you know that…

Big companies like Google and Yahoo don’t need your permission to turn over the contents of your email account to government authorities. They have to do it on a regular basis.

It’s amazing. As we speak, the FBI is lobbying top internet companies to gain full access to every level of communication… not only email, but Facebook, Skype,

As Wired Magazine recently reported:

“The FBI has been lobbying top internet companies like Yahoo and Google to support a proposal that would force them to provide backdoors for government surveillance…

The Bureau has been quietly meeting with representatives of these companies, as well as Microsoft (which owns Hotmail and Skype), Facebook and others to argue for a legislative proposal, drafted by the FBI, that would require social-networking sites and VoIP, instant messaging and e-mail providers to alter their code to make their products wiretap-friendly.”

And even the private email service called Hushmail, which bills itself as totally protecting your privacy, recently turned over huge amounts of user data to government officials, because the government is trying to track down steroid users.
