Barter Making a Comeback, More Resources

Over the weekend, my wife was on Facebook.

And, she’s part of some local group. (I have no idea what it is, since I hardly ever get on Facebook.)

A woman posted on Facebook that she really needed some eggs.

In return, she would trade some toilet paper.

But, not just any toilet paper, the ginormous industry rolls you find at the airport and other locations.

Very shortly after her post, this woman had over 15 replies from people who were more than happy to trade eggs for TP.

I’m sure there will be a bunch of posts similar to this over the coming days.

Human beings are resourceful and quickly adapt.

This is another reason to have a ton of supplies and backups for everything.

You can use for bartering…

Food

Water filters

Medical Items

Fuel

Alcohol (I don’t drink so I don’t have any of this)

Gold and silver coins

Ammunition

And so on. (This complimentary DVD shows you a bunch of gear you can barter.)

I personally don’t need anything and don’t need to barter… but you never know.

(When I see the post for 20,000 rounds of .223 needed, I’ll be ready to go.)

So, get creative and think outside the box in the current environment.

And, don’t forget to take care of those in need.

One of the main reasons to have a boatload of supplies is so you can give them away to others and help your neighbors.

Stay safe,

Jason Hanson

A Final Note…

Five-gallon bucket projects are a great way to upcycle old buckets, reuse items you have laying around, and create something new and useful. These projects are great whether you are an experienced DIYer, homesteader, or just someone looking for something to do.

If you’ve got a bucket and a little time, you’ll want to try one of these projects for your home, homestead, or backyard. If you don’t have a bucket, keep reading to find out how you can get them cheap or free.

Hydroponics can be an expensive venture, however, you can painlessly get your toes wet with indoor growing with just a five-gallon bucket, a pond pump, and a couple of other easy-to-find items. You’ll need a bucket with a lid, some three-inch pots, your pond pump, a dripline, and a drip manifold, all of which you could find at Home Depot or a similar store...

Today's article may truly frighten you. I wrote it after people were calling me, explaining how they believed they were "fully prepared" with their 2-3 weeks of food. One person told me he had 30 days of food "just in case of the worst, worst case scenario."

I didn't have the heart to tell them they're probably already dead. Anyone who has just 2-3 weeks of food will find themselves in a dire survival situation very soon as society collapses around them.

Eventually, the people who run out of food will turn to cannibalism and other horrifying things I dare not mention in this email.

11 Surprising Uses for Everyday Items

11 Surprising Uses for Everyday Items

These are similar to hints from Heloise, but without the famed household guru. Got a stuck zipper? Use a crayon on both sides to unstick it. Want to make candles burn longer? Freeze them the night before, and add some salt into the pool of melted parafin after lighting. Here are nine more novel uses of common products

A few years ago, the New York Times published an article about how a third of people don’t wash their hands after using the bathroom, not even when they're out in public. It’s pretty gross thinking about some stranger's germ-coated hands touching the same chairs, doorknobs, and banisters that you touch, but it's okay since we live in a relatively clean society.

A few extra germs won’t kill you. And besides, there is plenty of soap and running water available, and nowadays there are anti-bacterial gel dispensers everywhere.

However, after a natural disaster or an economic collapse, the level of hygiene in first world nations is going to plunge dramatically for three reasons: no tap water, no sewage treatment plants, and no garbage collection...

History is rife with examples of government action ostensibly to "help the people" resulting in privation, destruction, death and turmoil. Anyone who has truly studied the history of governments around the world has seen that the elected class — with very few exceptions — is populated by a psychopathic mix of destroyers and seekers of wealth and power. They pay little mind to the consequences of their actions. What is relevant to them is their glorification, gratification and security at the seat of power.

Chicago police run a vehicle impound racket

Imagine dropping your car off at the local mechanic because you need to get your engine tuned up.

A few days later you come back to pick up your car, only to find out that it has been impounded by the police.

That’s what happened to one couple in Chicago.

It turned out that one of the mechanics took their car out for a joy ride. He was driving too fast, was pulled over, and arrested for driving without a license.

The police then impounded the vehicle, even though it wasn’t his.

The couple went down to the police station to get their vehicle back, but the police insisted that they pay thousands of dollars, even though they did nothing wrong.

Meanwhile, the police are charging them storage fees to keep the vehicle in the impound parking lot.

The couple managed to scrap together the money to have their vehicle released… only to find out that the police had already sold it at an auction!

This wasn’t an isolated incident either. The City of Chicago does this countless times per year, for offenses as minor as littering and playing loud music.

(Chicago brings in about $28 million per year impounding cars and running up storage fees.)

Now the Institute for Justice is helping the couple lead a class action lawsuit challenging this Civil Asset Forfeiture racket.

They argue the scheme violates due process, by forcing innocent vehicle owners to account for crimes drivers committed. Plus, holding the vehicles ransom until fines are paid is an unconstitutional seizure.

Warren Buffett had some choice words for America’s worst corporation

We’re not the only ones who have noticed just how horrible large banks can be.

Warren Buffett and his partner Charlie Munger usually take some time at the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting to offer their advice to large companies.

They said the reason Wells Fargo has faced so many scandals over the past few years is because they hire leadership from Wall Street instead of community bankers.

For years the bank provided incentives that rewarded employees for recommending investments likely to lose value, sticking customers with unnecessary products and accounts that charge unnecessary fees.

Employees even opened accounts and transferred customers’ money into them without telling the customers, all to get bonuses.

Most likely, they said, the big banks will maintain the status quo… because the short-term financial incentives of bank executives are completely misaligned with those of the customers and long-term interests of shareholders.

For those who don't know, an emergency ration bar is a food designed to keep you alive during some sort of survival scenario where food is hard to come by. Emergency ration bars have a very long shelf-life, but most importantly, they are calorically dense. Typically, one bar has several hundred calories, making them ideal for bug out bags or survival caches.

There are a couple of downsides to ration bars, though. They usually don't taste very good, and they're not very nutritious. In fact, you could say they are downright unhealthy since the ingredients are mostly flour, sugar, and shortening. Yes, they will keep you alive, but you probably won't feel well.

That's why I recommend making your own emergency ration bars at home. Yes, you can buy them on Amazon, but if you make them yourself, you can control the ingredients and ensure you're getting everything your body needs to stay healthy. Plus, you'll save some money...

Is Rural Life the Only Way to Avoid Civil Unrest

Final thoughts

Capitalism believes in the “equality of opportunity” — where EVERYBODY has the chance to become whatever they want to be…

The fundamental difference between the two comes down to changing one little word for another. Where capitalism believes in the “equality of opportunity” — where EVERYBODY has the chance to become whatever they want to be…

Socialism pushes “equality of outcome” where everybody has the RIGHT to be whatever they want to be.

Regardless of merit…

Regardless of skill…

Parting thought…

I’ve always wondered why it is CA will stop us at the border of AZ and search us for fruits and vegetables, not allowing us to bring any into the state but love to allow illegals to enter without any kind of health screening or criminal background checks?  CA is an anti-freedom, restrictive state which virtually ignores your right to bear arms and now one cannot even sell pocket knives to CA residents [a warning notice now appears on many mail order catalogs that knife sales are prohibited to Californians]!
