Money talks all right; but in these days, a dollar doesn't have enough cents to say anything worthwhile.

America's War on Children

One front of the war is economic. As of November 16 at 12:38:023 a.m. GMT, the United States debt was $16,248,670,479,820.44 or $51,767.45 per person, including for each child. The debt has increased by billions of dollars a day for the last several years. As your children grow, they become more indebted.

Only one of three outcomes is possible: the debt can be paid through massive inflation and taxation; the interest can continue to be paid through massive inflation and taxation; or, a repudiation can occur. Even if the payment of principal were possible, what's left of the US economy would be destroyed for many years to come. Politicians prefer to pay the interest by placing a ruinous lien upon your children's future earnings. The least palatable option to politicians is repudiation. Nevertheless, a de facto repudiation of debt may occur on a large scale simply because the money is running out. Indeed, repudiation happens in microcosm each time a city declares bankruptcy. But the process will be slow; government will grab every cent it can to keep its crumbling edifice erect.

Consider just one way the death throes of debt are harming your children. The IRS is implementing policies that would allow it to double-tax or confiscate American assets and investments anywhere in the world. Rather than meet expensive reporting requirements, many financial institutions now refuse to deal with Americans even in mundane matters like opening a savings account. A foreign passport, however, means that a college account, a trust fund, or other financial hedges can be opened in your childre Part of the war on children and parents involves violating civil liberties. The government's view of children's rights revolves around a paranoid crusade to protect them from abuse or neglect, which are broadly defined and are identified through symptoms that include difficulty in sleeping. A simple injury treated by a doctor can prompt an interview with Child Protective Services; such professionals are legally obliged to report the injury to authorities. Parents have become criminal suspects with the state assuming loco parentis and making decisions for the child even over the parents' protest.

The state is a wretched guardian – ask any child who has been institutionalized or gone through the foster system. Now the state is stripping rights away even from well-cared for children. For example, Texas has started to microchip grade-school children with RFIDs to track them from class to class, from the cafeteria to the bathroom. The reason? TV station KENS5 explained: “The district loses $175,000 a day in state funding because of tardy or absent kids…The district bean-counters expect to gain more than $250,000 in attendance revenue from the state, and $1.2 million from Medicaid, because the district will be tracking special-needs kids, too.”

Apparently school officials view George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four as an instruction manual, not a cautionary tale.

America has a particularly brutal record on children. The Equal Justice Initiative reported that “nearly 3000 nationwide have been sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Children as young as 13 years old have been tried as adults and sentenced to die in prison, typically without any consideration of their age or circumstances of the offense.” This is consistent with America being the world's 'leader' in imprisonments with approximately 2.2 million people being currently incarcerated – an increase of over 500% in the past thirty years.

 SIDEBAR:

Americans who dare to venture out in public these days must do so by leaving their constitutional right to privacy at their front door. We are told that such widespread surveillance of virtually everything we say or do is necessary because, after all, our government lords and masters are only trying to "protect" us.

Now the insanity has spread to our taxpayer-funded public schools, and any student who refuses to go along will simply be punished. Such is the case in - of all places - Texas, where a student attending John Jay High School (a school named, ironically, after one of our country's founding fathers and Chief Supreme Court Justices) in San Antonio has been expelled for refusing to wear a tracking device

Unbelievable news here: A U.S. high school student has been expelled for refusing to wear an RFID tracker chip!

Post-Sandy insurance rates increase may make coastal living unaffordable

Residents of New York and New Jersey are still coping with the destruction Hurricane Sandy caused, but home and business owners alike will soon face another burden: rising insurance rates and new building codes and requirements that could threaten many that live and work in the coastal areas of the two states.

The Nanny State Updates…

A federal deadline imposing security standards for states-issued driver’s licenses is drawing near, but according to New Mexico’s congressional delegation, an extension is possible for the state for complying with the law; the act currently has thirty-one requirements, but New Mexico has not met sixteen of them and eight of those are related to the driver’s license law.

The REAL ID Act mandates that states have certain security features on licenses and identification cards which must be connected to a national database of license information. According to DHS, the deadline applies to states, not individuals. New Mexico is one of twenty-four states which are currently not in compliance with the act. New Mexico’s law that allows illegal immigrants to get driver’s licenses is one of the reasons for the state’s non-compliance.

AlbuquerqueJournal reports that the deadline for compliance is 15 January 2013. Starting in December 2014, a state-issued ID card or driver’s license cannot be used by someone under the age of fifty to enter a federal building or board a commercial plane unless the license complies with the program. DHS has granted extensions for the REAL ID Act to all fifty states at least three times since its introduction in 2005.

The Feds Want to Spy on Everything…Welcome to Communist America

Electronic privacy is all the rage in these post-Petraeus days. Can the government really go pawing through our email at will? Well, pretty much so, it turns out, at least, until the Supreme Court gets around to focusing a little bit of its attention on this newfangled, electronic world of ours. But email isn't the only data we pass around in electronic form, and with all of our attention focused on our in-boxes, we may be missing a larger world of privacy perils—and the unlikely guardians who have been fighting a rearguard action against official snoops.

As it turns out, the feds are very interested in tracking all of our electronic communications, very concerned that private industry isn't assisting snooping efforts as much as officials would like—and maybe not so eager to share that bit of discord between the federal government and the telecommunications industry with the world at large.

Are you an accidental American? Take the Help America Challenge!

One of the primary reasons the political system in America is broken is because politicians no longer listen to the people and the public has become apathetic.
Something to seriously think about as we approach our national birthday...
Are you an accidental American or will you help fix our country?

Does anyone give a damn?  Our 4th of July Message and take the Help America Challenge

As we head into the celebration of the birth of our nation, America is in trouble.

Americans celebrate the birth of our nation as July 4, 1776 but that was only when the Declaration of Independence was signed. However the war went on for many more years and America really gained Independence in 1783.  The Bill of Rights, which has been under attack by our own ’leaders,’ came along several years later.

Once, we were the most prosperous nation on earth, enjoyed the most freedom, boasted the largest middle class of any nation and had the least government interference in our daily lives.  No longer.

Once, we were an independent, self reliant nation.  Now 54% of us are dependent on government checks to get by.  This nation managed to be prosperous without an income tax for its first 126 years.  Today, Americans are nickel and dimed by so many taxes, it’s a challenge to keep up.

Sadly, the United States now has a higher percentage of workers doing low wage work than any other major industrialized nation does.

Today, the United States is overrun with laws, rules and regulation which dominate every aspect of our daily lives.  Is this freedom?  We imprison more people than any other country.  Bureaucracies at every level of government strangle business and job growth.

For the past three decades or more, politicians from both sides of the fence have become shallow, bickering idiots whose freedom stifling policies have bankrupted this nation both financially and morally.  Starting with the so-called Patriot Act, they have also decimated our rights and freedom.

It’s ironic, but our founding fathers served their country without paychecks and lavish benefits.  This is no longer the case.  We have lifelong politicians feeding at the public trough and from the hands of special interests.

No one has been able to explain to me why young men and women serve in the
U.S. Military for 20 years, risking their lives protecting freedom, and only get
50% of their pay on retirement. While Politicians hold their political positions
in the safe confines of the capital protected by these same men and women, and
receive full-pay retirement after serving one term. It just does not make any sense.

Our Founding Father’s provided us with the gift of freedom.  What are you doing to help preserve that gift?  Does anyone give a damn?

While celebrating the 4th of July with a BBQ and a beer, ask yourself…what have you done to help fix the problems which are destroying our country or are you just an accidental American, here by a quirk of fate?

Do you have ideas on how to fix America?  Send them to me or post your comment here.  Your suggestions might be included in a new book What Average Americans would do to Save America: Voices from the Heartland.

Restoring the American Dream II

Everyone agrees that America has to rebalance the share of production and consumption in GDP. But companies won’t ratchet up investment in a time of declining demand. Short-term actions, like a payroll tax holiday and extending unemployment benefits would help. A more substantive response would be heavy public spending on jobs-intensive infrastructure and energy projects—both sorely needed in any case—ideally accompanied by strong "buy American" rules.

--Charles R. Morris.
Restoring the American Dream

Without a serious intervention, our current government is beyond redemption… The New World Confusion reigns in America.

Throughout previous issues of our Bulletin, we point out how politicians have ruined this great country.  By now, one should realize Washington is not coming to your rescue. You must work on restoring yourself before it is too late.

The modern American Dream had always been a general prosperity and well-being for the average person. European civilization had produced the great cathedrals of the world. America had the two-car garage. And this middle-class contentment created a country of optimists.

Progressives have perverted the meaning of the term American Dream in an effort to transform the America of our Founding Fathers. They would have you believe that the American Dream is about increased government benefits and government-created rights…something they cannot grant as we already have them.  It’s up to us to take back those rights and tell the government to go to hell.

As we head into a decade of lowered expectations, should we focus on restoring the dream or replace it with a better dream?

What exactly is the American Dream?

It is about having a strong people and a weak government.

It is about the right of every citizen to keep the fruits of his labor.

It is about the sanctity of each individual's natural right to maintain sole dominion over his own life.

It is about true prosperity—not false prosperity generated through government schemes.

It is about every individual's natural right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

It is about self responsibility and self-reliance

As Congress has bankrupted America during the past 30 years, consider some of the consequences:

- The United States ranks behind Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, France, and Canada in social mobility across generations.

- The United States is number 1 in terms of our total debt to other countries.

- The United States has the number 1 military, spending WAY more than any other country

Oil and Kerosene Lamp Tips

Always fill the lamps every day and in the daytime; never fill a lamp after dark near a lighted lamp; when lighting oil lamps, never light an almost empty lamp, as the empty space is nearly always filled with a very explosive gas. Never fill an oil lamp when lighted.

If the lamp wick is dry after filling, allow it to become saturated with oil before lighting.

Adjust the wick making sure it is level and trim with scissors if necessary. The wick may have to be adjusted to avoid smoking after lighting.

In putting out a lamp, turn the flame down low, and wave a fan, book, or paper across the top of the chimney. Blowing down the chimney is very dangerous when a lamp is nearly empty and turned up high.

To prevent lamp wicks from smoking, soak them in vinegar and then dry them thoroughly.
Never start a fire in a stove or fireplace with the kerosene lamp oil.

Here are a couple of added safety tips for lighting oil lamps that my old Dad taught me:

1. Never overfill the container with lamp oil; fill to just over three-quarters full.

2. And always make sure the lamp or lantern is sitting on a stable, level surface and never leave burning lamps unattended

Tower of Power

Unique solar collector brings power to 25,000 homes in Seville, Spain; producing 19.9 megawatt of power from 2650 mirrors to the tip of a central tower.  The sunlight heats molten salt which is stored, and it produces steam as it cools, powering generators for 15 hours day or night or during bad weather.  This thermal storage design promises higher temperature steam and better efficiency that competing solar designs.

Two years ago, we wrote about another unique offgrid methane generation system used in Spain (acres of foliage producing carbon dioxide, captured by an inverted funnel which fuels turbines)…why are we so far behind on these amazing technologies?

An Unemployment Report That Screams Spectacular Failure

As Pres. Obama travels rural America preaching jobs…

Spectacular failure. These words came to mind as the dismal employment data for June were released last Friday. After the biggest spending binge in peacetime American history, the unemployment rate is stuck above 9%, while in May fewer than 20,000 jobs were created in what was once a vibrant U.S. economy. Adding in discouraged workers drives the combined rate to 16.2%. Wage rates fell, as did the average workweek.

It may get worse. In a U.S. Chamber of Commerce survey of small businesses released Monday, 64% of the executives surveyed reported no plans to add workers, while 12% had plans to cut jobs. Only 19% said they planned to add employees.  --Charles Kadlec of Forbes Magazine

According to CNN, sales of safes and vaults are absolutely soaring right now. One store owner told CNN that she believes that she is selling a lot more safes now because people are scared that civil unrest could be coming....Another recent poll found that only 17 percent of Americans now believe that the U.S. government has the consent of the governed.

Invest in yourself…according to Fareed Zakaria   – The Parting Thought

Although not widely reported on mainstream news, violence, especially among the young, is growing at an alarming rate.  Teens have a high unemployment rate, 44% among Black youth and they’re participating in what’s being termed ‘flash mobs’ violence.  Overwhelmed police had to be called out at the Wisconsin State Fair recently due to such unruly mobs who were on a rampage of beating and destruction.

Desperate people do desperate things. Many of America's "forgotten poor" are trying to survive any way that they can. For instance, a group of vagrants recently set up "a makeshift camp" near Prospect Park Lake in Brooklyn. According to the New York Post, many nearby residents have been disturbed by what these "drifters" are doing to survive....

The drifters have been illegally trapping and cooking up the critters that call the park home, including squirrels, ducks and swan-like cygnets.

They used crude tactics to hunt their prey, including barbed fishing hooks that ripped off the top half of one poor gosling's beak. They then cooked the meat over illegal fires. Some of the animals were eaten raw.

CNN personality, Fareed Zakaria, has been sounding the alarm and has been presenting ideas for restoring the American Dream…

‘Questioning with Boldness’ and ‘Reading up on our Founders’ may be good advice for the political sphere, but what Fareed suggests is more personal…

Learn a new trade, set up a local service, learn a new language, hell, learn math. Learn how to read. (That one came from me.) All of this are something you can do now—and do it online for free, look back to that pyramid—and each of them will re-energize your personal life and your personal improvement. And if enough people would do that, and stop railing on each other and get off their couches and do something—anything, even a hobby—with themselves, the American Dream will without a doubt be back to full speed.
