-- Orson Scott Card

Vote for Me and I’ll Set You Free

Our national delusion, politicians asking us to swallow the same lies every two years…the motto of both parties:  “We Deceive-You Believe!”

Our every-other-year national election delusion fills the airwaves with streams of outright crap from politicians promising change…in 45 years of voting, the only change I see is the erosion of our freedom and the Bill of Rights and the bankrupting of a once prosperous nation!  Both parties are guilty of screwing taxpayers while feathering their own nest.

Our economic and political system is in collapse and there’s no way to fix it from inside the system.

It’s a systemic crisis.  The systems we rely upon aren’t viable.

They haven’t been for a long time.  Every year we are worse off than the year before.

A political fix, switch, or reform isn’t going to do the job.

I’m damned tired of the political crap that flows from the mouths of lying politicians and I’m tired of people who don’t give a damn about what happens to this country…You can’t fix stupid and it pervades our populace like a disease.

We have apathetic and ignorant Americans deciding these elections…

Political pundits always call for hordes of informed voters to appear out of the mist, then wonder aloud why so many people are disinterested in politics. Why do people care more about the Kardashians and the NFL?  It is apparent to me that most people feel alienated from the political system. We have in place a system of rational ignorance and rational apathy.

Economic inequality is normally the single biggest harbinger of revolution, and inequality in America has reached catastrophic proportions.  The Washington-Wall Street Cartel and its self-serving, greedy policies has devastated the middle class and hooked them on their drug of choice – FALSE HOPE.

Everything will get better if you just vote for me!

A quick look at our history during the past five decades will prove that the American sucker will buy the political and corporate bullshit every time.

Both parties have worked hard to destroy the middle class, bankrupt the nation and to erode our liberties.  They are equal-opportunity destroyers.

However, the idea of another American revolution is generally discounted by most experts due to two factors:

·        The difficulties of managing and organizing a mass uprising is unlikely because the average American can barely tie their shoes let alone get off their cell phone to coordinate such an uprising and…

·        Stupidity among most citizens now reigns supreme in the United States.  More mainstream television hosts are even squawking about how dumb Americans have become and we’re the topic of jokes from the foreign press to the likes of Jay Leno’s old Streetwalking segments and Bill O’Reilly’s show, the Factor where street interviews show college kids cannot even name the current VP or who our first president was…public schools have done a wonderful job dumbing down students in order to make them easier to control and bamboozle.  Kids today are more infatuated with the next rave rather than how a college education indebted them or how few good jobs are available…instead, let’s get that next overpriced cell phone- that’s the most important thing in my life!

With a wink and a nod those seeking reelection like to tout how much they want to serve the people [while slinging mud at their opponent] when in reality, they enjoy the pay and perks and lifetime pensions that go with a short time in office…sure beats the private sector!

Why do think bottom feeders like the Clintons have only held government posts, even moving to New York where they suckered zombie voters to elect Mrs. Clinton to office…they sure got out of politics with a boat load of cash, didn’t they!

Would you want someone like Obama managing your family finances?  I would hope not, you’re debt would be inherited by 12 generations of your offspring!

Voting is a crapshoot but in 45 years of voting I cannot see how it has done any good…our nation is still headed south in terms of its finances and freedoms! It is obvious one cannot trust elected leaders. We seem to welcome incompetence in government. Obama is just the latest example.

The NSA, for example, was meant to spy on foreign activities, not US citizens at large.  Many believe that we truly have a single party system despite the outward appearances.  The strings are all pulled by corporate interests and the people have no real voice in what goes on in Washington or in state capitols.

In the end Americans all take it up their collective arse and they seem to enjoy financing the entire process as well…enjoy your night of tricking and treating as most of us know who really gets tricked on election day.

American people don’t believe that we can have economic collapse followed by economic and social chaos. They suffer from normalcy bias.

Segment: David Simon on Our Rigged Political System

The U.S. dollar is progressively buying less and less. The middle class and savers are impoverished. I often use that word, “impoverishment,” because that is exactly what has happening for 100 years, ever since the beginning of the Federal Reserve Bank in 1913.

That’s my political rant for the week – what do you think?

There must be a telepathic network between animals where I live.

Another stray dog found its way to our front door this week.  That’s the 4th one in the past six months.  Although she had a collar and appeared well cared for, no tags could be found.  I left messages on CraisgsList and at city hall, the police etc., but no one called for this sweet little dog.

Over the years I’ve had six horses, two goats, dozens of cats [including an old cranky, blind Siamese cat] and dogs which seemed to know we’d take care of them and not mistreat them.  I have to admit I like just about all animals and plan to create an animal rescue shelter when we’ve completed our mini-farm…just takes more and more money to accomplish such tasks!

The Poor Man’s wife worked on and off for more than a decade with veterinarians and particularly loves horses.  Here are a few tips on cutting pet care costs:

·         Leash, fence and supervise your pets.  Pets are most likely to sustain injuries or death when not contained.

·         Spay or neuter your pets – they have fewer health problems that way.

·         Find low cost services at vet schools, humane societies and at many pet stores.

·         Shop around for medications.  Sometimes your vet will have sample medications and often you can get the same prescription cheaper at a regular pharmacy.

·         Don’t buy pet insurance.  It is rarely worth the cost.  Instead, consider enrolling your pet in a discount wellness program such as those offered by Banfield, the Pet Hospital.  www.banfield.net or call: 866-277-7387

Finally, I believe most pet foods will prove nutritionally sound for your pet…my wife doesn’t agree and buys premium brands.  We both agree however on this…DO NOT BUY PRODUCTS FOR YOUR PET THAT HAVE BEEN MADE IN CHINA!

P.S.  Please consider tagging or micro-chipping your pet.

Winter Lawn Equipment Care

This is how I clean my mowers and garden tools to store for winter. First, I wash and rinse clean under mower decks. Then I use my leaf blower to dry the tools. I move the mower's tiller outside to air dry. I then spray WD-40® on all the cables, wheels, nuts, bolts, blades, and under mower decks. This keeps it from rusting. Also, I empty gas tanks. After I finish washing and drying all garden tools, I use a cheap motor oil to wipe them down. A little work saves a lot of money in repairs and replacement.

DIY 400 Watt Wind Turbine

suiterelliot

These plans detail how I built a wind turbine in my garage without any special tools for just over $200. Many of the do-it-yourself designs are either toy projects or unlikely to hold up in strong winds. This wind turbine will withstand 40+ mile per hour winds and produce electricity with as little as 15 mile per hour winds.

I started out with one of those aforementioned toy projects, but soon realized that this design would not stand up to the high winds in central Iowa. After months of trial and error I finally have a design that is strong and effectively produces usable electricity.

I would just like to note that I am a high school senior with no prior experience with electrical systems; so before you tell yourself that building a wind turbine is out of your realm, trust me, it isn't as hard as it sounds and anyone who puts their mind to it can do it.

Easy DIY Windmill Project That Produces Electricity

This entire alternative energy project costs less than $200 to build. And, yes, those are snow shovels that you see in the photo. Once built, the windmill will need to be connected to some kind of appropriate alternator and then can generate 300 watts of power.

10 Best Places to Retire on Social Security

The 10 Best Places to Retire on Social Security Alone

In these places, Social Security is likely to cover your basic monthly costs.

Thanks to the Federal Reserve, the middle class is slowly being suffocated by rising food prices.  Every single dollar in your wallet is constantly becoming less valuable because of the inflation the Fed systematically creates.  And if you try to build wealth by saving money and earning interest on it, you still lose because thanks to the Federal Reserve's near zero interest rate policies banks pay next to nothing on savings accounts.

The Federal Reserve wants you to either spend your money or to put it in the giant casino that we call the stock market.  But when Americans spend their paychecks they are finding that they don't stretch as far as they once did.  The cost of living continues to rise at a much faster pace than wages are rising, and this is especially true when it comes to the price of food.

Many people have delayed retiring after losing their good paying jobs beginning in 2008, others would rather work or…perhaps you’d like to retire early?  Consider these cities as compiled by US News & World Report…

If you don't have a traditional pension through your job and haven't been saving a significant amount in a 401(k) or individual retirement account, Social Security is likely to be your largest source of retirement income. Almost all retirees (86 percent) receive Social Security payments, and for over a third (36 percent) of retirees, Social Security accounts for 90 percent or more of their retirement income. The type of lifestyle Social Security alone will provide largely depends on how much you have earned in Social Security benefits and where you live.

The average Social Security benefit for retired workers was $1,294 per month at the end of 2013. A couple who each brought in this amount would have $31,056 in annual Social Security benefits, which will also be adjusted for inflation each year. U.S. News analyzed Census Bureau and Bureau of Labor Statistics data to determine where a retired couple age 65 or older could cover their basic expenses, including typical costs for housing, food, utilities, transportation and health care, on this amount.

It’s important to note that in most places, Social Security alone barely covered these basic expenses. After paying for those five major costs, retirees living on Social Security alone likely won’t have much cash left over for recreation, hobbies, clothing, consumer goods or travel. “If they are highly dependent on Social Security, it is not an easy life,” says John Palmer, a Syracuse University professor and former public trustee for the Medicare and Social Security programs. “If they own their own home and don’t have high medical expenses, they can probably get by.”

Retirees would often be much more comfortable if they had income from another source in addition to Social Security, such as personal savings, a part-time job or a traditional pension. Taking steps to maximize your Social Security benefit is also important. “Not collecting until you are in your late 60s, if you can do it, is a good idea,” Palmer says. “For every year you retire earlier than that and choose to collect Social Security, your monthly benefit is about 7 to 8 percent less, and for every year you delay up to age 70, your benefit increases by 8 percent.”

In expensive cities including San Jose, California, Honolulu and San Francisco, Social Security alone did not cover the basic costs retirees face. “I wouldn’t want to try to make it just on Social Security in New York City or the D.C. area, but in a lot of the rest of the country, the cost of living is substantially lower,” says Kenneth Robinson, a certified financial planner for Practical Financial Planning in Cleveland. “Moving has expenses that go along with it, but if you have relatives who live in a less expensive place than where you are now, you might want to consider a move.”

In these cities, a household with typical expenses and two average Social Security checks coming in could get by on Social Security income. Here are 10 places where it’s possible for retirees to cover basic costs on Social Security alone:
